✦ — The Hound Wolf Squad is one of the few consistent positive aspects of Rosemary's life.

Like with most things, the core of her relationship with the Chris's team is complicated — all technically BSAA operatives who are expected to function under a certain protocol, though they remain more loyal to her guardian than they do to the organization they initially joined. Rosemary herself is just shy of being a BSAA asset thanks to pressure from both her mother and Chris himself, and Hound Wolf is meant to treat her as such. Something to keep an eye on. Something that must be handled with extreme care, as if it could explode at any moment.

In reality, Rose's relationship to the members of Hound Wolf could be most easily described as akin to family friends ; for most, she can't remember a time before they were part of her life. She has always known them, and they have watched her grow up. She is far more comfortable with them than she is any BSAA soldier assigned to monitor and observe her.

Some, she is closer to than others ( as is the nature of human relationships ). Charlie Graham, in particular — an outside observer and a father himself, he's able to step in when tensions between Rose and Chris are particularly high, on days when she seems especially distracted, on days where the weight of what she is seem far too heavy for Rosemary to bare. He talks with her often, checking in, treating her to a day of normalcy out in the world without the observation of assigned soldiers.

She attributes the fact that she hasn't gone completely crazy under the overbearing nature of both her mother and Chris ( with good reason ) mostly to Charlie's watchful eye.

Her hesitation made him lower his hand. Her question however was expected. His gaze on her didn't move. It was a strong prideful look that could rival a politician as he tilted his head. Taking a breath he spoke.

"Chris' attempt to keep you safe was admirable. Never took him for the type to care for a child." He says. Avoiding her question for the time being. His body movement spelled aggression. His gloves hands flexing slightly. Before another word was uttered he moved. But not slowly or like the average man. No. It was a flash and he was there in front of her. The gap was closed in seconds as he grabbed her arm pulling her close.

"Through years of studying the case file on your father. It lead me straight to you. A piece in a puzzle I believed would never come to fruition. You..are special." His grip like vice on her wrist, his yellow eyes glaring into her soul." Lets just say..the agency keeping you safe had slips in their security. Leading me to you.."

✦ — Careful and guarded as Rosemary may have learned to be over the years, she's never been able to keep her thoughts hidden from her expression. An open book, always feeling things so deeply, always so easy to read before she can catch herself.

Mention of Chris by the stranger takes her by surprise — blatantly so, with wide, wide blue eyes and her lips parting in a question she won't let slip without thought. Before she can pull her expression back into a practiced neutrality, before she can even truly react, the man is darting forward. He's upon her in the blink of an eye, his grip tight against her arm and Rose can't help the way she yelps in shock.

"Shit —— let go of me!"

Hand curls into a fist as she yanks against his hold with all her might, practically throwing her weight backwards ( away, she has to get away ) to little avail. A frustrated, terrified yell claws its way out of her throat.

"I don't know who the fuck you are, but if you know who I am then you know what I can do! Let me go before I make you!"

There was a man. Tall. Carried himself with pride as he stares off into the city with sunglasses over his eyes obscuring them from view. A slight amusing hum could be heard as he turns to face her. His yellow eyes could be seen behind them at this point as he looked Right into her eyes.

"You must be Miss.Winters." his voice seemed rough. Over the left side of his face what looked like charred burns that ran down into his white suit. Extending his hand towards her he tilts his head slowly.

"I've been waiting. For so long to meet you." His smile rather dark. It spelled danger. It was dark and evil to the regular person. It hungered as he walked up closer to her." And we have a lot to catch up on.."

✦ — Time alone is a rarity it in Rosemary's life ; whether it's stolen or given, she savors every little moment she's spared to sneak away from constant surveillance under the guise of safety ( is it hers, or humanity's that they are more concerned with? ). And even so, she knows better than to let her guard down in those small moments to herself. Years of lessons, of warnings, given to her by her mother, by Chris, by anyone who would care or at least pretend to care for her well - being.

She can't be too careful. People aren't always what they seem. She has the kind of power hidden beneath her skin that some people would be willing to kill for. Or far worse.

So she's aware of the man far before he turns to address her properly — though his humming does little to actually conceal his presence. Rose falls to a stop with clear distance between them, enough that no attack would be possible without leaving her with a window of time to react. Frame tense, despite the air of nonchalance she tries to wear. Hands shoved into the pockets of her father's jacket, head tilting with furrowed brows. She steps backwards as he moves closer, keeping her carefully constructed distance.

YEARS ABSENT FROM EACH OTHER'S LIVES and an... unconventional reunion have left the two of them with more to unpack than Michael bargained for when he made that phone call. Granted, he had no idea what to expect from said phone call. All he knew was he was in over his head, and told himself that if he were to fail then at least someone out there would know. The truth had far more to do with the past than he would admit, a network of support unlike any he ever had snapping him out of the near trance he felt himself slipping into down in that warehouse.

They each had their reasons for drifting apart. Michael couldn't blame her. And from her perspective, it must have seemed like he went on to seek a normal life. When questioned about it, he shrugs, wringing his hands together as he responds, "Darkness always finds you either way." Maybe it's an exaggeration, but Michael has never seen a world where he isn't tied to it all, too intertwined with his own personhood. He has a feeling Rose might think similarly. "I think... I would've ended up there no matter what I tried to do."

✦ — An ocean of things left unsaid still remains between them, the tension coming and going like that of the tide. For some moments, it's as if no time has passed between the two of them, falling into familiar, easy, teasing rhythms — others, she can hardly breathe among it all, suffocating and unfamiliar with nothing but open water to fall into should she misstep. Rosemary had wanted — hoped, really — that he would have a normal life without her in it. The kind of life she could never have, that no proximity to her could ever allow for.

Still, she had come running the moment she got his call. ( There's no world in which she wouldn't ).

Michael's words hang heavy, and Rose can't help but frown. She wants —— she doesn't know what she wants. To argue, perhaps, to tell him he's wrong, that this doesn't have to be his. But all words to that effect feel so empty. So she shrugs. Mimicking his own motion from earlier, a half - tease as she nudges his sneaker with her own.

"Maybe. But ... you don't have to be alone with it." ( a pause. she smiles, the gesture small but genuine ). "I'm glad you called. Really. I missed you."
