We hope you are all excited about your matches and, if you haven't already, we'd love it if you would please try to touch base with your partner within the next day or two just for proof of life/making sure you're connected!
It's okay if you're a writer and you don't have anything solid to present your artist with yet, but making sure communication has begun is the most important thing as of right now!
Per the FAQ:
How often should I be communicating with my partner?
Remember that these events are to inspire collaboration and friendship in fandom! You should ideally be dropping your partner a line at least every week, even if it’s just a very brief message to update them on your progress and check in on theirs.
That being said, obviously we’re all individuals with lives and busy schedules. Please do not be offended if you do not always receive quick responses from your partner, and give each other space where necessary!
If you are a writer who submitted a proposal or an artist who submitted the claims form and you have not yet received a match email, please reach out to us as soon as possible at [email protected].
Matches will be going out in 30 minutes (!!) and, to kill time (and because we received an inquiry about it), we decided to pull some fun data to look at in the meantime!

It's so wonderful to see such a wide range of characters and relationships represented - we hope you are all as excited as we are about the fics/art participants will be working on this summer!
As of today, we have officially received a submission to the claims form from every signed up artist, so the form is now closed! We are about 80% of the way through the matching process, but will not be sending out matches to anyone until we have finalized everyone. So, what happens next?
With more writers than artists, there were always going to need to be a few artists who were able to take on more than one fic! We had several artists express interest in doing so, and we have tentative matches for the remaining fics. We have reached out to the artists in question to confirm their willingness to take on that second fic and, depending on their answers, we will either finalize those matches, or find alternative matches.
We hope to have matches out in the next couple of days and then everyone can get to collaborating! We're so excited and hope you all are too 🎉
I see in the rules that there aren’t any major character OCs allowed. However, I had an idea for a subplot that involves an OC as a supporting character (with the focus of the subplot still being on a canon character). Would that be allowed?
Hi there! Yes, per the rules, the restriction is on OCs as a main character/part of a ship, so an OC as a supporting subplot character would be allowed. If you have more specific questions about your WIP, feel free to email us ([email protected]) and we can touch base with you directly!
We are excited to announce that artist claims open in 30 minutes! The writers in this fandom have really brought their A-Game, and below the cut you will find over 20 (!!!) proposals 🤯 Artists have already received this information in a google doc, but when the claims form opens, they will have the opportunity to rank up to ten proposals in order of preference. For everyone else, let's all get very excited about all the wonderful fics we'll get to read this summer! 🥳
During the claims process, proposals that have been officially assigned will be crossed off to indicate they are no longer available, but claims will not close/matches will not be sent out until all fics have been assigned.
The following proposals are no longer available to claim:
01) The Dead Don’t Rest
Expected Rating: Mature
Archive Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death
Primary Character(s): Father Mulcahy
Primary Ship: Gen
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Magical Realism, Ghosts, Canon-Typical Disregard to Timeline, Catholicism, Dreams and Nightmares, Surgery, Screenplay/Script Format
Estimated Word Count: ~11k
Summary: Told in screenplay format. Mulcahy learns he can see and communicate with ghosts (as well as tell when people have died around someone/will die) during his first week at the MASH. At first, he doesn't think it's real, but as time crawls by, he starts to accept his abilities. He tries to keep them a secret, fearing judgement from the others, but his powers are forced into the open when he starts to get sick from overusing them. After a confrontation with Henry, he and the personnel of the hospital accept them as true. However, this consensus is shattered when Henry dies. Mulcahy immediately starts spiraling, even though no one really blames him. Henry's ghost doesn't appear to him and he's disappointed... until Henry does show up several months later. Mulcahy helps Henry say goodbye to the 4077th, only for Frank to crack under the pressure of finally being forced to acknowledge Mulcahy's abilities. Charles arrives as Henry fades away, showing how life continues on no matter what happens.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: This story is (hopefully) fun if you like Mulcahy! Interesting/compelling depictions of ghosts are valued highly here :D
02) One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
Expected Rating: Teen & Up
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Hawkeye & Margaret
Primary Ship(s): Gen / Platonic Houlihawk
Additional Tags: margaret houlihan & hawkeye pierce, whump, hurt/comfort, hurt margaret houlihan, margaret houlihan whump , sickfic, sick character, meningitis, lumbar puncture, background frank burns/margaret houlihan"
Estimated Word Count: 10,001
Summary: Margaret gets meningitis and Hawkeye finds her and helps take care of it. They have a vulnerable conversation and almost become acquaintances instead of enemies. (AKA the talk/interactions got too real and they beat a hasty retreat.)
Set sometime in seasons 1–3, pre-friendship. Frank is absent until the end. No pairing, but could be pre-slash if you lean Houlihawk.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: Meningitis is usually paired with extreme light sensitivity, so a lot of this story will be in a dark tent or blinding for Margaret. Think migraine. 💥 She is in pain & ashamed of having to rely on others, but obviously bottling that up. Hawkeye is unsettled seeing a very vulnerable major, and is genuinely trying to help. I'm enamored with the idea of these two characters nearly breaking down a wall, but then Frank comes back and everything goes back to how it was. (Bad.)
03) of limbs, warmth, and (relative) peace
Expected Rating: Teen & Up
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): BJ & Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): Beejhawk
Additional Tags:Domestic fluff, cuddling and snuggling, pining, 5+1 things
Estimated Word Count: 10k
Summary: 5 times BJ and Hawkeye share a bed together. +1 time they share a bed as a family.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: The fic is primarily beejhawk but ends with a BJ/Hawk/Peggy scene. The general vibes are: domesticity, physical touch, comfort, taking solace in each other, yearning, family/non-traditional families
04) After Rain
Expected Rating: Explicit
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): BJ & Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): Beejhawk
Additional Tags: Beejhawk/Hunnihawk, post-war, 1970s, angst with a happy ending
Estimated Word Count: 30-40k
Summary: "September 1974 finds BJ Hunnicutt divorced, lonely, and trying to navigate the mess he’s made of his life. While he was spinning out, the world spun on without him: Erin started med school, Peg found a new partner, and worst of all, Hawkeye hasn’t spoken to him in almost ten years. Navigating the mess is easier said than done for a recently out, recovering alcoholic in his late forties.
When the Red Cross puts out a call for volunteer doctors to help with the relief effort in Honduras after Hurricane Fifi, BJ jumps at the chance to get away—to do something that means something—and stop haunting his apartment like a ghost.
Needless to say, the last person BJ expects to find in storm-ravaged La Ceiba is Hawkeye Pierce."
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: Although the story deals with some heavy topics (natural disasters, addiction recovery, finding queer identity late-in-life), and there’s some bittersweetness mixed in because of all the time BJ and Hawkeye have lost / spent apart, the tone of the story is fundamentally happy and hopeful. BJ is seven years sober, and though he’s lonely, he’s since rebuilt a good relationship with both Peg and Erin. While the story doesn’t shy away from describing the devastation of the Honduran coastline, most of the story takes place on an island that wasn’t nearly as hard-hit as spots on the mainland. I’m making these choices intentionally and trying to handle them with purpose and care; although this is a situation BJ and Hawkeye could plausibly find themselves in, I also understand that this is primarily a Beejhawk second chance story, and I certainly don’t want to make light of a tragedy for the sake of propping up my fanfic.
The story is written in third limited and will be entirely from BJ’s POV. It will also include excerpts of letters that BJ wrote to Hawkeye throughout the years—both when they were in contact and then after BJ got sober. It’s rated E for a sex scene that will take place at the end, and the story will have a concrete happy ending along with a short epilogue showing BJ and Hawkeye together several months after leaving Honduras.
Now for the fun stuff to give you an idea of some of the tropes, vibes, devices, etc.:
Though BJ and Hawkeye lost touch about ten years before the start of the story, BJ continues writing letters to Hawkeye that he doesn’t send. He keeps them in a field notes pad in his front pocket.
Hawkeye stole one of BJ’s dogtags before leaving Korea and has been wearing it on and off ever since.
BJ and Hawkeye stayed in touch and saw one another relatively frequently between 1953-1965. Some of these meetings get referenced in the story and include 1) getting kicked out of a hotel pool during a medical conference, 2) dancing together at Radar’s wedding, and 3) wrestling one another in the snow in Crabapple Cove.
At one point, Hawkeye talks BJ into climbing a tree for him.
Hawkeye has a close encounter with a goat.
The story will feature BJ and Hawkeye working side-by-side during a medical emergency.
Erin Hunnicutt appears in this fic twice—once on a phone call, once in the epilogue.
05) bandits and saints
Expected Rating: Mature
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): BJ & Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): Beejhawk
Additional Tags: Hawkeye Pierce/BJ Hunnicutt, Slow Burn, Pining, Acts of Service, Colonel Potter Horse Girling Horsely, Cowboy Like Me (Taylor Swift) Vibes, first they ride horses and then maybe they ride each other maybe i don't know
Estimated Word Count: 20-40k
Summary: korea, 1952. the roads are blown out. the radios are dead. a malady is overtaking the villages and camps. and somewhere up in the mountains, there's a clinic full of sick children isolated from the doctors who can save them.
nobody orders hawkeye pierce and bj hunnicutt to go. colonel potter just happens to look away when they ride out at dawn on sophie with whatever they can carry and no guarantee they're coming back.
they've been partners long enough to finish each other's sentences, cover each other's shifts, and carefully avoid the thing that's been sitting between them for two years. the mountains, it turns out, have no patience for careful avoidance. there's nowhere to hide out there. nothing to do but ride and talk, avoid rustlers and enemy soldiers, and finally, finally reckon with what they are to each other.
please indulge my wartime western where i make bj hunnicutt do robert redford levels of cowboy bullshit. beejhawk cowboy fic incoming! beejhawk cowboy fic incoming!!!! woooooh! WOOOOH!
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: "visually, this fic lives in warm canyon tones - the deep reds and burnt oranges of a western landscape bleeding into soft pinks at the horizon (in korea i have been researching mt. gyejoksan and the hantan river valley), all of it contrasted against the muted army greens of their fatigues.
think about the color palette of butch cassidy and the sundance kid. think of two men on horseback small against a very big sky. think the specific shade of gold that early morning light turns silver hair. ok now stop thinking about that and think about sharing a tent on a cold night under an infinite blue blanket of stars and it's freezing so they have to hold each other for warmth because the fire has died oughhhh. ok now stop thinking about that and think about one of them lassoing the other - Something That Happened For Real, You Guys. ok now stop thinking about that and think about bj in a cowboy hat. ok you are ready to draw something for this fic. *kisses you on the forehead* i love you."
06) That Stupid Cat
Expected Rating: Teen & Up
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Hawkeye & Daniel Pierce
Primary Ship(s): Gen
Additional Tags: Epistolary, Fluff & Angst
Estimated Word Count: 10-20k
Summary: “That Stupid Cat” is a (mostly) epistolary fic in the form of letters between Hawkeye and Daniel Pierce. Except Daniel Pierce is also writing letters from the point of view of his cat, Shackleton. In the past, Daniel would send Hawkeye birthday cards etc when he was at college and med school, and also send a birthday card from the cat. Now he’s graduated to sending full-on letters, taking on a completely different persona when writing from the POV of the cat.
Since Daniel is staying strong for Hawkeye, he ends up conveying things he feels he can’t say directly to Hawkeye through the words of the cat. For instance, the cat reveals to Hawkeye that Daniel has started seeing a woman, and the cat isn’t so sure about her. Then Hawkeye can give his father his blessing through the letter to the cat, and the two men can bypass having a difficult conversation.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist:
Some other events Shackleton relays to Hawkeye:
- His own courtship of a lady cat
- Daniel’s worries about keeping the Pierce family home in good repair
- Daniel’s worries about the war dragging on forever, in the voice of the cat not understanding why the war even exists
- More details about Daniel’s health issues, post-Sons and Bowlers
- Various idyllic scenes around Crabapple Cove
- Reminiscing about Hawkeye's youth, as told to him by Daniel
Some events Hawkeye relays to Shackleton:
- The death of Henry Blake
- Mad Dogs and Servicemen — having to yell at a kid to make him walk
- Trapper leaving, and meeting BJ
- The Billfold Syndrome — Hawkeye’s worried about forgetting who he is, too.
- GFA (in letters probably never sent)
- Some new scenarios TBD
The story would end with Hawkeye being reunited with his father and Shackleton.
07) Postcards
Expected Rating: Mature
Archive Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence
Primary Character(s): Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): Beejhawk + Gen
Additional Tags: post-war, road trip, Hawkeye goes to California, unrequited requited love, first kiss, nightmares, love confessions, canon-typical violence
Estimated Word Count: 15k+
Summary: After a series of nightmares about his time in Korea, Hawkeye decides to drive to California in the hopes that seeing BJ will clear up his night terrors. On the way, he runs into a few old friends.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: Hawkeye is going to be sending postcards to his father from each of the locations he visits including Boston, Toledo, the Grand Canyon, etc. with the final being from San Francisco. He'll be meeting Charles for dinner in Boston with a tumultuous Trapper encounter, nearly get beat up at a Toledo Mud Hens game, get to ride a horse with Colonel Potter and Radar, spend an emotional moment looking over the Grand Canyon, and have a passionate reunion with BJ involving a lot of tight hugging.
Throughout the story I'm going to weave in a series of nightmares based on Korea. These will involve some amount of canon-typical gore folded into more of a horror sort of frame. Think Margaret and Mulcahy's dreams in 08x22 Dreams. The nightmares will start to fade as Hawk works his way across the country, but won't stop entirely until he gets to spend a night in BJ's arms.
08) Out of the Frying Pan
Expected Rating: Explicit
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Margaret, Hawkeye, Trapper
Primary Ship(s): Margtraphawk, Traphawk
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Margaret Goes to Boston, Trapper's Daughters, Christmas, Reunions, Domestic Fluff, Threesome - M/M/F, Margaret Houlihan's Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Father, PTSD - Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Estimated Word Count: 20-30k
Summary: A year and a half after the end of the Korean War, Margaret Houlihan chooses not to re-enlist in active service. Kicked out of her Army quarters at Fort Bragg only a few weeks before Christmas, she receives an invitation from one Trapper John McIntyre to spend the holidays with him and his family—but, notably, not his ex-wife—in Boston.
With no experience finding a job, looking for apartments, or living without the Army to fall back on, Margaret takes him up on his offer. If nothing else, she'll get a good lay from someone she always pined for and have a place to stay while she works up the nerve to contact Charles and ask for help finding a civilian nursing position.
Margaret's neatly-laid plans are shaken when she arrives in Boston to discover that Hawkeye Pierce has been living with Trapper since a few months after the end of the war. Confronted with the unconventional relationship she spent the first year of the war trying her best to ignore, Margaret has to choose whether or not she can accept the two men's flirtations, Charles's job offer, and her new life without the Army.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: This is a *very* Margaret-focused fic, specifically in regards to her relationship to the Army and her sexual desires; but it's also very much a Traphawk fic at heart and is about their relationship to each other just as much as it's about their burgeoning relationship with Margaret. A good chunk of the fic takes place in Trapper's house in South Boston and I'd be delighted either to provide reference pics OR let you as the artist run wild with it, all depends on what you're up for.
Scenes outside Trapper's house take place at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Mercy Hospital, and at a high-class Back Bay restaurant. Outside of the three main characters, Trapper's daughters and Charles both get a fair amount of page time. Additionally there may be one scene with Colonel Potter as an epilogue; we’ll see what happens when we get there.
Fic will include two explicit scenes - One a solo affair and one with all three of Margaret/Trapper/Hawkeye.
09) and now wildflowers make me think of you
Expected Rating: Explicit
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): BJ & Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): Beejhawk
Additional Tags: BJ Hunnicutt/Hawkeye Pierce, Pre-Canon, Alternate Universe - Different First Meeting, BJ Hunnicutt Goes to Maine, Slice of Life, Hurt/Comfort, Humor (or at least Attempt at Humor lol), Pining, Epistolary, Complicated Relationships, Misunderstandings, Friends to Lovers, Hawkeye's Simultaneous Commitment Issues and Abandonment Issues, Jealous BJ, You've Heard of BJ's Trapper Complex... Now Get Ready for BJ's Tommy Complex, Minor Tommy/Hawkeye, Minor Tommy/BJ, Minor Carlye/Hawkeye, Minor BJ/Trapper, Minor Hawkeye/Trapper If You Squint or If You're BJ, Minor Relationships with Original Characters, Good Parent Daniel Pierce, Various Episodes
Estimated Word Count: 200k
Summary: BJ wasn’t sure what he expected when his parents shipped him off to live with his Aunt Prudence in Crabapple Cove, Maine after a fight with his father. He definitely wasn’t expecting Hawkeye Pierce.
Or, BJ Hunnicutt goes to Maine... in 1939.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: Starts with BJ meeting Hawkeye in high school and goes through undergrad, med school, residency, and the war, as they grow up and figure themselves out and figure out their relationship. Not all episodes will be covered, but I have plans to cover selected episodes up through GFA (with an epilogue to finish it off). The focus is on beejhawk; minor romantic relationships mostly happen in passing or in the background during epistolary sections (or are the invention of BJ's vivid imagination, lol). There are some minor OCs simply because a significant portion of the fic is pre-canon. No archive warnings apply, but I would say that there are references to sexual assault and child abuse (about at the level you would expect from MASH). Also Hawkeye and BJ meet as teenagers, and there is some intimacy between the two of them at age 16/18, but nothing more than some kissing. Also has period-typical homophobia, sexism, psychiatric practices. Any death/violence is about at the level to be expected from MASH (no major character death).
10) Hold Me When I Wake
Expected Rating: General
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): BJ & Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): BJ & Erin, Beejhawk
Additional Tags: hurt/comfort, established relationship, mentions of Episode: s11e06 Bombshells, mentions of death/injury, nightmares
Estimated Word Count: 10k
Summary: After Erin gets hurt playing on a rope swing at a local park, BJ is reminded of the time he had to cut a rope and leave a wounded soldier behind. Later, a storm and old memories cause BJ to have nightmares and internal struggles about if he's doing good enough as a father and as a partner. Hawkeye comforts and reassures him through it all. I'm putting BJ through the saw trap because I wanna see him crash out and get comforted and taken care of :)
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: There's a lot of storm imagery throughout-as the clouds roll in and the storm gets stronger, BJ's internal struggle gets worse and culminates in a nightmare waking up through the worst of the storm. The thunder and wind sound like bombs and chopper blades, rain being whipped against the window sound like bullets. But it's also very domestic and bright in the moments with Erin and Hawkeye in the beginning, but BJ is beside himself as he's stuck in his head. Their light doesn't reach him as his own storm brews within.
11) The Sharing Type
Expected Rating: Teen & Up (Might lean Mature, depending on edits to the ending).
Additional Tags: Unreliable Narrator, BJ POV, Post-War, Established Polyamory/Navigating Polyamory, Role Reversal, Jealousy, Slow Dancing, Anniversaries, Some Angst re: complicated relationship feelings but happy ending
Estimated Word Count: 15-16k
Summary: October, 1955:
Peg, BJ, and Hawkeye escape to Boston for a weekend to celebrate the anniversary of BJ and Peg's engagement (and, unbeknownst to Hawkeye, they have a surprise in store for him, too). In an effort to put a fun twist on the night and make Hawkeye a part of their shared past, they agree to bring a game they've only ever played in the privacy of their San Francisco bedroom out in public: Hawkeye and Peg as the married couple, with BJ as their bachelor friend. It's all in good fun—until it isn't.
As the night unfolds, BJ is blindsided by a wave of jealousy and possessiveness he thought he'd long worked past and, despite all of their best efforts, the evening spirals in an unpleasant direction. But, when an unexpected (and unwelcome) face from Hawkeye's past provides a common enemy, the three of them are reminded that they're on the same side. In salvaging the night, they learn that the best way to build a future together isn't by recreating the past, but by trying to make something entirely new.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: The fic is nearly complete, just needs to be edited/I need to rewrite the ending, so the majority of it is ready for you! Re: visual notes, the lion's share of the fic takes place in a 1950s jazz/night club, so it could be a fun opportunity for cocktail attire, dynamic poses wrt: dancing, and some fun lighting/smoky ambiance! But, there are also flashbacks to domestic moments at home, as well as a brief scene in their hotel room before, and a longer one in the aftermath of the date, so the world is your oyster!
12) Lavender Sails
Expected Rating: Mature
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Margaret & Helen
Primary Ship(s): Houlifield
Additional Tags: Postcanon, epistolary, queer awakening, background Charles/Donna, alcoholism recovery, writing about writing, Margaret considers med school
Estimated Word Count: 10k
Summary: As Margaret struggles to adjust to civilian life and find the same satisfaction in nursing after the war, her main source of joy is the romance novel she and Helen are writing via mail. It’s also a lifeline for Helen, who’s struggling to find a job after completing rehab for alcohol.
But then writers block hits both of them. Margaret realizes the story will be better if they make their love interest a woman, but she's scared about what this means. She's already left the army and strayed from her father’s plans for her—acknowledging the feelings for women she’s always done her best to ignore feels impossible.
At the same time, she’s dealing with Hawkeye and Charles encouraging her to pursue medical school. She knows this is something she wants, but she worries who she’ll be without her identity as a nurse.
Margaret deviated from the plan she had for her life once when she left the army. Will doing so again feel like too much?
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: I kinda see this as a celebration of words/stories, since it’s through writing that Marg is able to acknowledge her queerness.
Other stuff I wasn’t sure how to fit in the description:
- Margaret and Helen are writing about pirates (hence the title - which will probably also end up being the title of their book)
- Margaret is living in Boston (and working at Boston Mercy - though not in the same department as Charles, and she feels very isolated at work), and Helen is in Virginia with her parents. Eventually, Helen moves to Boston.
- Marg and Helen do get together in the end, and M does apply to med school.
- Not a main focus, but some touching on Hawkeye's post GFA trauma.
13) The Serpent Handler
Expected Rating: Teen & Up
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Mulcahy, Sidney, Charles
Primary Ship(s): Maybe a brief Hawkahy I’m not sure yet if it will take a romantic turn
Additional Tags: Post canon, surgery.
Estimated Word Count: 10,000
Summary: Desperate to do more for patients, Mulcahy makes a vow to finish nursing school. With help from his former 4077 compatriots, he gets into a program in Boston, becomes more involved with the local Deaf community, and recognizes that even God’s hands cannot heal all wounds.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: My main imagery is Mulcahy and the asklepian. He is questioning his faith in God and strengthening his practical faith in medicine. There are several patients with injuries he binds around the wrists. He is using his hands more as he learns sign language. He is getting himself out of a crisis/breakdown about his self worth by finding a more tangible way he can help others - leaving the priesthood and going into medicine.
Summary: A late night conversation in the bar of a hotel. A cab ride, a memory, and a proper goodbye at the airport. For a long time, Margaret has told herself that she needs to be rational about her relationship with Helen. That it even happened at all was highly unlikely, the daughter of Howitzer Al would never. And yet she did, and the flame burning hot refuses to cool. An unexpected moment of bonding with Charles makes her see things differently, at least for a little while. Who needs to be rational, when you can be with the one you love for just a few moments more.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: This whole story takes place during one night. A quiet, melancholy tale, and a glimpse into Margaret's confusing inner world. As always, all of her passions are fighting the rational mind she tells herself she should have. Friendship with Charles, they have a surprisingly personal conversation in a bar, and romance with Helen. One intimate situation, Margaret/Helen, in an airport bathroom. Set in S9.
15) Savor the Taste, Savor the Pain
Expected Rating: Explicit
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): "Trapper" John McIntyre, B.J. Hunnicutt.
Primary Ship(s): Beejtrap, Beejhawk, Traphawk
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Omegaverse, Rutting, Intersex Character, Dubious Consent, Pining to Lovers, Rivals to Lovers.
Estimated Word Count: 20,000 - 40,000
Summary: When sudden illness strikes Daniel, omega Hawkeye goes to Maine for a couple of weeks to care for him, leaving his two lovers behind. Though Trapper and BJ have been co-nesting for over a year, BJ still sees Trapper as a rival alpha in his den. And he should. Trapper's been passing as an alpha since he was in college. Though he presented with external alpha sexual characteristics as a teenager, internally he carries underdeveloped omega sexual characteristics. In all aspects, he would be considered an utter failure of an omega—but that doesn't kill his secret desire to live as one. However, in their current society, it is all but unattainable, and he spends his days burying that dream as deeply as he can.
Neither Trapper nor BJ have been separated from Hawkeye for more than a few hours since reuniting after the war, but BJ takes the distance much harder. Trapper—who has been nursing an agonizing attraction to BJ since the moment he saw the alpha on his Boston doorstep—offers what olive branches he can to soothe him, but nothing can take away his pain. When BJ turns his frustration on him, Trapper realizes that BJ is exhibiting more and more severe alpha behavior with each passing day. There can only be one reason. Due to his intense emotional storm from his distance from both his mate and his pup—Erin is currently in Oklahoma for a visit with her grandparents—BJ's suppressants have failed. He is going to have his first rut in years and there is nothing that they can do to stop it.
Against good medical judgment, BJ makes the executive decision to lock himself in the bedroom and weather it himself. Trapper knows full well that this substantial of a breakthrough rut will make an untended alpha sick and it's very likely that he will end up hurting himself as well. Though he tries to respect BJ's choice, twenty-four hours of hearing him suffering and smelling his distress forces Trapper to act. He may be a failure of an omega, but surely there must be something that he can do.
When Trapper lets himself into the bedroom without warning, BJ—not currently in full control of himself—takes him as a threat and lashes out, throwing him on the bed and initiating a dominance fuck to prove himself as the superior alpha. Trapper is overwhelmed and submits to him, but the sex is rough, painful, and exposes Trapper as an omega—and a deviant one at that, given that he has a public romantic relationship with Hawkeye, another omega. BJ resurfaces briefly from the fog of his rut and intends to push Trapper away, but his instincts have other plans.
As BJ and Trapper fall into a sexual rhythm throughout the rut, they are forced to be vulnerable. Intimate. Secrets emerge that they'd never dreamed that they would share with one another. For the first time, BJ begins to see Trapper not as a rival, but as a human being. Trapper knows that he should be over the moon that the alpha he's craved is finally softening toward him, but there is a lingering voice in the back of his head whispering that BJ is only becoming kinder because he now sees Trapper is an omega, not because he genuinely likes him. Will this new tenderness last beyond the rut? Or is Trapper doomed to have his heart broken?
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: This is a high-heat, character-driven story, intended to be intimate and to spend a lot of time in both erotic scenes and deep conversations. Most of the fic will be in the bedroom with the two of them either knotted or resting in the afterglow, when their hearts begin to unlock and their secrets start to slip out. Think of one of them admiring the other as they sleep, bathed in the gold of a new dawn. The two of them at the window together, watching the stars. BJ being forced to let Trapper take care of him, making him food, helping him wash. BJ and Trapper really connecting as fathers for the first time. Trapper finally feeling safe enough to break down over everything that he's lost by being forced to live as an alpha. Themes include redemption, reconciliation, fatherhood and the despair of being far from your children, vulnerability with someone who you swore was your greatest enemy, buried romantic feelings resurfacing, and soul-deep healing.
My thoughts about Trapper being intersex have been shaped with an intersex person and this fic will be undergoing a sensitivity read once complete. Please be aware that my omegaverse worldbuilding more than likely steps outside the bounds of typical trope conventions! I don't want it to come as an unpleasant surprise.
Though BJ is not being written as a villain in this fic, he does cause a few painful moments in the early chapters of the fic. Please know that I love his character very much and have no intention of writing him as evil or irredeemable, just as a hurting man with C-PTSD who has not yet begun his journey toward healing from the horrors of the war.
So that any artist who may want to claim this can make a fully informed decision about what they will be reading, I do want to make sure to draw attention again to the 'dubious consent' tag. Though only the first sex scene will be presented as dubious consent, that scene will be physically painful for Trapper and BJ will be quite rough during it. But I do want to stress that it is not non-con—Trapper becomes quite eager through the course of the scene regardless of any physical discomfort that he might experience. None of the sex scenes which follow involve internal sexual pain and BJ is much more careful with making sure that he doesn't injure Trapper.
16) I Know You Yesterday
Expected Rating: Mature
Archive Warnings: Major Character Death
Primary Character(s): BJ, Trapper, Hawkeye
Primary Ship(s): Beejtrap, Beejhawk, Traphawk
Additional Tags: Temporal Paradox, Mutual Pining, First Time, Infidelity, Epistolary, Jealousy, Hurt/Comfort, Grieving/Mourning, Polyamory, Ambiguous/Open Ending
Estimated Word Count: 50k
Summary: As winter sets in and the Korean war entrenches, Hawkeye begins seeing time travellers. Then the letters start.
Inhabiting the same cot across from Hawkeye's but separated by the space-time continuum, Trapper and BJ begin a cross-temporal correspondence that inevitably changes their feelings towards each other—it's hard to be jealous of the other guy who shares Hawkeye's heart when you're falling in love with him as well. But, as Trapper's inevitable departure looms in a future whose precise timing only Hawkeye knows and each of them grapple with the pre-emptive loss in their own ways, building a future together seems just as impossible as being together in the present.
Or, laid out a bit clearer: BJ, Trapper and Hawkeye are all living the war at their own pace—sometimes overlapping, sometimes diverging, and, for Hawkeye, always fleeting. Simultaneously set during seasons 1-3, 4-6, and the years 1950-1952, this is an epistolary love story between two men who never meet and their temporally-challenged bunkie, otherwise known as "mutual pining enemies to lovers doomed time loop threesome”
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: This fic is most influenced by Check-Up, Bulletin Board, The Late Captain Pierce, and A War For All Seasons. It's told linearly in alternating chapters from BJ and Trapper's POVs, but the two of them (obviously) never meet. I imagine them as being on either side of a very thin veil, able to talk to each other but never see, touch, or cross over. I would say the biggest theme throughout the fic is the unfairness/uncaring cruelty of time and trying to find joy and connection in spite of it. BJ's broken watch from Dear Ma plays a big role.
I have a bunch of really complicated interlocking timelines that I've (hopefully) made mostly comprehensible to anyone who isn't me, so if you're confused by how the fic would work rest assured I have many many outlines to help you understand.
The ships are Hawkeye/BJ, Hawkeye/Trapper and BJ/Trapper, but NOT BJ/Trapper/Hawkeye; they don't have their shit together enough for that. The fic also ends on a slightly-hopeful but mostly melancholy note, so if you're looking for a happily ever after this probably isn't the fic for you.
17) Wide Open Spaces
Expected Rating: Explicit
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Hawkeye & BJ
Primary Ship(s): Beejhawk
Additional Tags: Road Trip, Domestic Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, PTSD, Hotel Sex, Car Sex, Flirting, Covert PDA, Period-Accurate Homophobia, Hawkeye Pierce Is Afraid of the Dark
Estimated Word Count: 20,000
Summary: BJ goes to Maine… to help Hawkeye move the last of his things (including his DeSoto) to California. Stopping at various motels, landmarks, and roadside attractions along the way, the two endure growing pains and create cherished memories as they begin the rest of their lives together.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: This will be a largely historically and geographically-accurate piece comprised of multiple chapters detailing Hawk & BJ's travel across 18 U.S. states in later summer/early fall. Special attention will be paid to the different landscapes and atmospheres the two encounter on their travels. Hubs of interest that the story will likely spend more time in than others are: New England, Chicago, middle-of-nowhere Nebraska, the Southwest (NM/AZ), Las Vegas, and Yosemite. Roadside motels and cheesy tourist attractions abound, as well as tough phone calls, passionate sex, arguments in the DeSoto, domestic bliss, and things that go bump in the night.
18) Title may change, currently it's "Nevertheless".
Expected Rating: Explicit
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): BJ, Hawkeye, Peg (not physically present, of course, but she is VERY important). Glimpses of Charles, Potter, Margaret and original side characters
Summary: BJ manages to secure 4 days in Kyoto, Japan together for himself and Hawkeye. They've recently added a physical aspect to their relationship--not without both of them shouldering a significant amount of guilt, but neither wants to stop--the intimate connection is helping both of them stay relatively sane. Wanting to escape camp and increasingly anxious letters from Peg, BJ wants to make the Kyoto trip as relaxing and romantic as possible. Hawkeye is torn between giving into the fantasy BJ's trying to create and his misgivings about whether BJ sees him as anything more than a stand-in for Peg. At the hotel in Kyoto, Hawk becomes preoccupied with disrupting the operations of the 1st Loudspeaker and Leaflet (L&L) Company, an Army PSYOP unit focused on manufacture and distribution of propaganda, whose members happen to be staying there too, making BJ feel like he has to fight for Hawk's attention. Lots of poor communication, hurt feelings, poor/reckless choices, and sex instead of coping.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: Living under basic survival conditions can inspire selfishness. Is selfishness inherent to such conditions? Is “every man for himself” built-in? If so, is that an instinct that can be suppressed? If so, for how long?
As draftee doctors, of course BJ and Hawkeye both have to suppress the impulses they may have to run for the hills, steal a jeep, tuck themselves into the wheel well of a cargo plane and set out across the ocean, etc. They can’t choose anything about their environment, can’t choose to leave--
Well, they can, but the consequences of doing so would be far-reaching, beyond their own lives. Imprisonment, losing their medical licenses, becoming unemployable, don’t seem like real choices.
That doesn’t stop them from knowing, in the back of their minds, that they still made a choice to come to Korea and engage in the war instead of facing those consequences. They enable the machine to run, they chose their own lives over the lives of the Koreans and Chinese from the day they shipped out, so already they’re operating from a position of self-preservation and valuing some lives more than others. Just by their presence, one could argue they’re violating the base intentions of the Hippocratic oath.
So they try to make up for it by pushing themselves beyond what should be possible, elbow-deep in the wounds they indirectly helped create, day-in and day-out, as if Hippocrates is keeping score.
A lot of my focus in re: their relationship will be about exploring the implications of the above.
The backdrop of Kyoto will also be super important, the history and scenery. The hotel BJ and Hawkeye stayed at is/was a real place (The Rakuyo) and the propaganda unit mentioned in the summary actually stayed there during the Korean war. I have reference photos of the hotel and its stationery, examples of the material produced by the propagandists, and potential locations in Kyoto that I may use for certain scenes, all included in my full proposal.
While this is not a happy story, and not meant to depict a healthy functional relationship, it is ultimately part of a larger timeline that I'm establishing where Hawk and BJ do eventually end up together after the war. I've nearly finished the story that precedes this one, describing how they get together the first time (basically, BJ can't take it anymore and makes a move, set somewhere late season 6 if that means anything). The love between them is genuine here, but very confused, enmeshed with their trauma, and neither of them have access to 21st century therapy speak. The tone I hope to strike is realistic, not excusing either of their decisions, but showing them both as flawed people who make mistakes and can change. There will be upsetting and discordant moments, but real affection and care and sweetness too.
19) better to have loved and lost [def a work in progress and may change!]
Expected Rating: Mature
Archive Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Primary Character(s): Margaret, Hawkeye + 4077 ensemble as minor characters (Potter, Charles, BJ, etc)
Primary Ship(s): Margaret/Hawkeye, Margaret/OMC (background only), mentions of other past canon relationships
Additional Tags: Road Trip, Flashbacks, Friends to Lovers, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Reunions, Complicated Relationships, Friendship, Healing, Infidelity (mainly off screen and not between main pairing)
Estimated Word Count: 12-15k
Summary: Set a few years post-GFA/post-war. Having discovered that her new husband has been unfaithful to her, Margaret decides to visit a few old friends as she tries to figure out what she wants to do.
A story told partly in flashbacks to her time at the 4077 and partly through her road trip/reunions with her former colleagues across the country. Along the way she will have tea with the Potters, wine with Charles and meet the newest member of the Hunnicutt family. She will marvel at how happy the Klingers are and feel strangely proud of how far Radar has come. She will consider getting in touch with Frank, organise a girl's night with a few of her nurses and visit Henry's grave. Eventually she decides to stop putting off the inevitable and heads for Crabapple Cove to meet up with Hawkeye. It was always going to be her destination, even if she told herself otherwise. They agree to spend the weekend together before they both go back to their regular lives and Margaret has to make a decision about her marriage.
In this story, Hawkeye and Margaret developed a FWB no strings attached sexual relationship while they were in Korea with the understanding that it would go no further, but Margaret wants the comfort of someone who understands what she's going through and to feel uncomplicated desire again (of course, it will be a lot more complicated than she thinks...)
Part character study, part exploration of the value of love and friendship of different kinds throughout a life and how sometimes choosing your own happiness is the hardest thing you can do.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: I'm not especially visual in my writing (i.e. I don't include a lot of descriptions of clothes/hair/locations etc), so any artist would have pretty much free rein to create as they see fit. I'm also planning to have the fic split fairly evenly between war and post-war content, so the artist would be able to go with their preference in that regard as well. I have indicated that I expect the rating to be M, as I am planning to write a sexual relationship between Margaret and Hawkeye without getting explicit about it (fade to black is more my style but there will be sexual content, implied and otherwise), and there will be plenty of friendship moments between Margaret and the other characters as well, so there is the possibility for romantic or gen artwork.
This fic will include some heavy topics that were common in the show (mainly trauma and how people can try to heal from it), but it's not the main focus of the story. There will also be discussions of infidelity (not just show-typical infidelity during the war) and so that is a major theme but dealt with more in the aftermath, mainly on how Margaret will heal from this latest hurt and deciding what she really wants from life, etc. Margaret will be seeking out a reunion with Hawkeye partly for revenge against her philandering husband, but it will be understood that her marriage is already compromised and there will be discussions about what this means for her going forward, how she feels about this with regards to her own past as "the other woman" and what she needs from a relationship. Technically, Margaret is still in a relationship with another man for the duration of this story, though, so I wanted to make that clear from the outset. I know it's a big no for a lot of people. But divorce in this time period wasn't necessarily easy and not a decision to take lightly, so while *I* know that her relationship is over, technically while the fic is ongoing, that decision hasn't been reached yet. Just FYI.
20) radar and hawkeye hang out after the war and its so normal and good
Summary: hawkeye turns up at radar's farm. he says he's visiting just for fun, but it doesn't take long to see that something is deeply wrong with hawkeye and he's not visiting, he's running.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: story focus on brotherhood/friendship between hawkeye and radar, their relationship status quo being upset with radar having to take on the complicated role of someone caring for another with mental health issues, and the whole encounter, tragic and upsetting though it is, bringing them closer to each other in a deep, honest bond.
Additional Tags: Post-War, Canon Compliant, Past/Referenced Alcoholism, Found Family, Bisexual Character(s), The 1950s, Slow Burn, Reunions, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Recovery, Other Main Characters/Ships may appear.
Estimated Word Count: 50k
Summary: Every road leads to Boston. Two years after the war is over, Hawkeye receives a letter from Charles asking him to join his surgical team. At the same time, across the country, BJ is considering a career change that will bring him to the East Coast. Both of them are grappling with the long-term effects of the war, and are looking to find a way to heal when they both end up in the same city - though neither of them knows it yet.
Additional Notes for Prospective Artist: I’m looking at themes of healing and renewal (so spring time imagery), as well as a found family “not to me/not if it’s you” dynamic. I want this story to be essentially a mini saga for the various swamp rats and how their lives intersect in one city after the war.

Hello! When is the artist sign-up form expected to go live?
Hello! My apologies, they were supposed to go live on Thursday, but my week irl ended up being a little crazy, and fandom things fell to the wayside a bit! Artist Sign-ups will go live today, and I've adjusted the schedule to reflect the delay. The remainder of the signups/proposals/claims schedule will now run as follows:
Artist Sign-ups: April 19-May 3
Writer Proposals Due: May 4
Artist Claims Open: May 8
All dates have been pushed back by 3 days, so this means writers will get an additional 3 days for their proposals!
However, because this reminder post did not go up yesterday as planned, the form will remain open for an additional twelve hours, and will now close at 11:59pm EST / 03:59am UTC!
If you have signed up, you will receive an email from us tomorrow — it will come from [email protected]. We recommend adding us to your contacts, but if you don't see it, check your spam and junk folders. If it is not there and you did sign up, send us an email by April 4th and we will make sure you are all set to participate.
As a reminder, official communication regarding the Big Bang will be sent via email, so an email is required for participation. The email you provide does not have to be your personal email, and if you don't have a fandom-specific email, now might be a good time to make one!
While individual check-ins can occur on another preferred platform (Discord, Tumblr, etc.), we will not be doing individual outreach on general announcements. These group emails will be sent with all recipients BCC'd, so no one but the mods will have access to your email. We will never share your email with anyone without your consent.
If you have not begun to work on your proposal, now is the time to get started! We are now one month away from the due date — May 1st!
Artist, Pinch Hitter, and Beta Reader sign up forms will go live on April 16th.
Hi! I know writer sign ups are open. If I’m interested in just being a pinch hitter or even a beta reader, should I sign up now, or wait a second?
Hi there! Hold off for now, Beta Reader & Pinch Hitter sign ups will go live separately alongside the Artist sign ups on April 16th! Thanks for checking in ❤️
Sign ups are now open to all writers for the 2026 M*A*S*H Big Bang! Be sure to thoroughly read through the Rules and the FAQ before signing up. Additional resources can be found here on tumblr. Priority sign-ups will close at 12:00pm EST / 17:00 UTC on March 31st.
If you have any questions, reach out to us here on Tumblr or via email at [email protected]!
Hello MASHbang creators! My question is this: At the moment, I’m thinking my piece may be spread out over the course of a number of ‘one shots’ that end in a conclusion piece at the end of a series. Would you guys want it all to be a grand total of at least 10,000 words or 10,000 words per ‘one shot?’
Hi there! Generally, a fic for a Big Bang should be all one work, so multiple smaller works would not technically fit within the criteria. Without more information it would be difficult to give you a solid answer, though. Would you please reach out to us off anonymous (we will respond privately) or email us at [email protected]?
Hello Big Bang team! Can you tell me more about what the initial submissions for writers should look like?
Absolutely!
The initial sign up form that will go live on March 17th will ask you for your name (does not have to be your real name, just whatever you want us to call you), email address, Ao3 handle, if you have a story idea in mind, whether or not you are planning to sign up with a co-writer, and whether or not you are planning to write something explicit (and, in answering that quetion, confirming that if the answer is "Yes" that you are not a minor).
The proposal form is still in the process of being finalized but will ask for information such as:
Working Title
Central Character(s)
Ship (if any)
Rating
Estimated final word count (you will not be held accountable to this, only to the wc minimum, but just an estimate)
Imagery/themes you have in mind
Summary/Something to give artists an idea of what your story is about/to get them interested in working with you!
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Hello Big Bang team. The 2,500 word minimum that's mentioned for proposals - does that refer to the proposal itself or 2,500 words of the actual story?
Hello! Apologies for the delayed response, February got away from me a little bit there 😅 But the 2,500 word minimum for proposals could be anything from a very thorough/detailed outline to prose/part of an actual rough draft. Essentially, it just needs to be something that shows you have put thought into your fic and have a plan in place.
You will be asked to share it with the mods when you submit the proposal form, but it will not be part of your public facing proposal, as that would make proposals a bit unwieldy for artists to peruse. Your public facing proposal will include things like what ship (if any) your fic focuses on, what rating you are planning for, some type of summary/explanation of what your fic is about to give artists an idea of what you're writing/what kind of story you're telling/etc, and you will provide these details in your proposal form.
