in practice though, it refers to (mainly fandom)creators and fans of fiction depicting atrocious things: positively or neutrally, gratuitous/voyeurístic, near or plainly pórnographic (re: topics below that is), or otherwise portrayed without tact or merit in a further narrative. if that makes any sense.
darkshípping has been recently pushed as what this is "really" called, but that is not my experience from when the term proshípping first came up in 2015ish
examples include: pedóphillia/csa/cocsa, ràpe/sa, incèst/groomíng, abuse, sexualizing of teens/minor characters (ymmv unfortunately), zoóphillia/beàstiality (including pókemon), nècrophilia, and many types of bigotry or discrimination (in a fiction/doylist, fandom/meta context)

regardless of how you feel about proshípping, we cant keep communities catered to one side of this conflict of standards, and sweep unpleasantness and drama under rugs. harassment still isnt ok! but fandom needs to at least be navigable and curatable
you didnt use to see this discussed 10+ years ago bc fandóm pushed them away from ever participating! several long time fans of submàs against blankshípping have talked about this before. or the drama was called something else, like shipping wars and flamers. anyone, blankshípper or not, who left the fandom due to drama back then cant speak if they never came back. youre looking back at the past with rose tinted glasses and survivorship bias
ffs, incèst is the most common csà. this isnt just a notp, or petty fandom drama, and its not even about the fictional characters. its about personal character, the actions and choices someone makes

Yesterday my little brother told me something very sweet and touching, that when he was a kid and had nightmares about monsters chasing him or whatever he would be able to end the nightmare by finding me in the dream and I would protect him by fighting off the zombies, or carrying him away. This is adorable, and makes me feel like the greatest older sibling in the world, but the hilarious thing is that when I was a kid I had nightmares of needing to save him from zombies and such. so many dreams where he was in trouble and I needed to save him. Like my nightmares began where his ended. Low key I think he mastered the ability to psychically transfer his nightmare to me as a child and I'm kind of annoyed with him.
