Black Hat Story #1
In a small local bar in downtown Manhattan, man sits at in the darkest and furthest corner from the front door. A football game played on many of the wide screen television on the walls, but he paid them no mind. He fiddled with a pair of yellow dice, moving them from his left hand to his right. Back and forth he passes the dice, all the while watching a woman who was seating the bar counter.
She was dressed in tight jeans and a low-cut tank top, clothing which was unsuitable for the freezing November weather. Perhaps she had a jacket amongst the many hung on the frail coatracks. The woman smiled and chatted with the female bartender, who looked a bit uncomfortable with the woman’s attention. The woman then slowly and deliberately reached her arm across the counter and placed it gently on the bartender’s arm.
The stood up slowly, clenching the dice so tight they squeaked against each other. Rage bubbled inside him, threatening to explode everywhere. He grabbed the edge of the table to steady himself and in doing so, the dice slipped from his grasp. They hit the floor once, then flashed with a sudden yellow light, before they hit the floor for the second time. The die came to rest, now colorless, in front of a pair of shiny black shoes.
The man watched the dice fall in shock, and when they came to rest at the shoes, his eyes slowly moved upwards. Black slacks, a white blouse, and a black blazer with a yellow daffodil in the breast pocket. When his eyes met the woman’s cold gray blue ones, he sat down very slowly. The woman reached down and picked up the dice, placing them in her pocket.
“What do we have here?” She smiled. “I didn’t think you’d actually have the balls to roll them. Looks like my assumption was wrong.” She took the seat across from him, tilting her wide brimmed black hat up so she could see him better. The man still wasn’t over how, otherworldly this woman looked. And it almost felt stranger to call her a woman. She looked barely 18.
“I didn’t mean to roll them.” The man muttered, and the woman cackled loud enough for other patrons to turn around and stare. “Whatever you believe Tim, I don’t really care.” The strange woman’s laughing aura suddenly changed. She stared at him with her icy eyes. “I know what’s in your heart.”
The man, Tim, felt a chill. What’s in his heart? What was she talking about? The woman leaned back a looked up at the ceiling.
“When you rolled that dice Timothy, the desire in your heart is the one I have come to make true. That was the contract, right?”
Tim nodded faintly and looked down at his trembling hand. “I-I I don’t mean it anymore though-.” He stopped when the woman slowly began leaning forward. Her eyes glittered.
“Do you really though?” She asked innocently.
Tim looked over her shoulder to see the woman at the bar counter, his wife Allison. She was leaning over the counter, arms holding on for stability to the bartender on the other side. She seemed to be whispering into the other woman’s ear. Even from the other side of the room he could see her eyes, half closed, but alight with passion. The same look she used to give him.
Suddenly Tim felt the fiery rage again inside him, dispelling the cold the woman in the black hat gave him. He stood up slowly, as if he was being pulled up by strings. As he moved past the still seated woman, he felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time. He felt free.
The woman placed her black hat on her head again, pulling it low over her face. She walked slowly backwards, watching Tim and his wife as the carnage unfolded. Tim grabbed a broken bottle and she grimaced. That was going to hurt. The bartender grabbed a hidden pistol from underneath the counter. But the woman with the black hat was long gone before it was fired.
The woman glanced back at the bar, patrons now flooding out, screaming. She could see flashes of Tim’s body, bloody and still, on the floor. His cheating wife was out of sight, presumably behind the counter. As Tim took his last breath, the woman felt a string somewhere in the universe snap, and she smiled. She had finally broken the terrible loop of pain.
In her mind’s eye she Allison and the bartender hiding behind the counter, holding each other close. And as one string snapped, another one was reknit.
Honestly

#no guys you don’t understand #this is super important #mental health in korea is literally awful #you can lose your job because you’re being treated for depression #the fact that this big name star is opening up about it is huuuge #so thank you gong yoo
the screenshots here are from near the end of the interview, which i think makes it even worse, because the interviewer listened to everything he’d said and still didn’t treat it very seriously. there are other parts where she seems very smart and intuitive, but then other times he’d say something like “i hate myself to death and feel like i’m an empty shell” and she’d just laugh and move on while i’m just like !!!
i was really impressed by how open he is about it though, even the “ugly” symptoms that aren’t really talked about normally — like how he said he used to lock himself in his apartment alone and drink and “bang on the walls” because he didn’t know how else to cope with all the pain he was in, and he even mentions hurting himself and talks about scars and refers to himself as a “masochist” and says a coworker once referred to him as “someone constantly trying to hurt himself.” the fact that he was able to talk about all this so openly, despite the reaction he got, was so impressive and amazing to me
it’s really heartbreaking though because he’s obviously never had the support he needs — at one point he mentions that the first person he ever opened up to about all the pain he was in (back in his mid-20s, when he says it was much worse) was a director who was considering hiring him, and he later found out that that director had told people she thought “someone like that” would be “too difficult” to work with, and it caused this rumor/pre-conceived notion about him to spread that affected the way his coworkers treated him. now that he’s famous and has had other work he’s literally known for how charming and nice he is to everyone, but at that point his coworkers all thought he was moody, pretentious, and rude and always avoided him on set because of this, all because he opened up about his severe depression to the wrong person
#reblogging this version because honestly like it’s so fucked up #I always forget that I’m very privileged to be able to receive the help that I have gotten and still get as a person with depression #and even famous people; people with so many resources do not get better or even the same treatment I’ve gotten #and that truly sucks #especially in a country where mental health discussions are so taboo #South Korea has gotten better with it over the years through media awareness but it’s nowhere near where it should be #and Gong Yoo opening up about it including the nastier parts of depression is so brave #and I just wanna say I commend him for it #because to get on tv in front of so many people and KNOW you’ll most likely not be taken seriously is so courageous #especially when your career revolves around how people perceive you #he’s practically sacrificing his job to bring awareness and this is why I truly whole heartedly love this man
speakng of raising awareness: the movie he’s being interviewed for here is “silenced”, a film he initiated production of. it’s based on real events that happened at a school for deaf children, where kids were sexually abused for years by their teachers. of the six rapists, two received prison sentences (and were out within a year), while the others were freed immediately because the statute of limitations had expired - and all were reinstated at the school
gong yoo read about this a few years later and said to himself “what can i as an actor do to help,” and he made a movie about it. millions of people saw it and there was mass public outrage, and because of this movie the case was reopened, the school was shut down, the rapists got much harsher punishments, and a law named after the movie was passed that abolished the statute of limitations for all sex crimes against minors and disabled people
when they were making the movie, gong yoo was convinced by the director he’d found to star as a teacher who tries to help the victims, but at first he was hesitant (because before this he’d only been in romcoms and he thought he lacked the acting ability to pull off the emotional depth required for this subject) but he eventually agreed because he wanted to use his fame to bring attention to the events
like… i have nothing but admiration for this guy. gong yoo is incredible and i want the world to know
I hope his courage gives strength to other Koreans who are suffering from the same burden.

“If we’re assigning blame then this is your fault for leaving me alone with explosives in the first place.”
[ Aahh!!!! I'm so nervous! This is the first writing prompt sample I've ever written. I think. 6th grade doesn't count. This is actually a small remodeling from the story I am currently working on, the one I want to make into a Webtoon eventually. If any artists are interested contact me!!! Anyway I hope you enjoy this small sample!!]
Ten crossed his arms and pouted. “If we're going to be assigning blame, it's your fault for leaving me alone with the explosives.” He wouldn't look at any of us, clearly embarrassed.
Mark rubbed his forehead and sighed. “At least no one got hurt, and we got what we needed anyway.” Mark tapped the head cushion of the driver seat. “Claude how much gas do we have left?”
“We're running on fumes. We needed to find a gas station two hours ago.” Claude reported.
Everyone groaned, but Irene spoke up from the very back. “If we take the next exit-no wait- the exit after this next one, there's a town. It looks big enough for a gas station.”
“Great, thank Irene. We'll head that way, and hopefully get some dinner in as well.”
“We can also go over the notes and whatever Ten got out of the safe.” Sun said. She had pulled out her tablet and was playing a game.
“Really Sun?” Jin snorted. “ You are playing a game? After the night we just experienced?”
“Shut up.” Sun said calmly. “I'm stress relieving.” Then she muttered, “Trying to forget all the moments I almost died.”
“Speaking of the safe,” Mark said and turned slightly to Ten. “ Why did you blow it up? How did you know anything in there was of any use?”
Ten shrugged. “If it's in a password protected 4 inch thick steel box behind a painting, it's probably important.” He put a headphone in one ear and leaned against the car window. “That's what happens in the movies at least, so I gave it a shot.”
Mark hummed to himself before saying, “You watch too many movies.” Ten smirked and put the other headphone in his ear. Everyone else found something to keep themselves occupied with as well. “We'll be there in about 30 minutes.” Irene said, mostly to herself. She glanced up at the passenger seat. Sun was staring at her tablet screen, but it seemed like they made eye contact through her reflection. Irene looked back down at her phone. Her heart pounded in her ears as she remembered the moment in the corridor and she absentmindedly touched her wrist. What did Sun mean then? About her heart stopping if she was away for too long. Away from where? Irene leaned against the window and let the vibrations of the car shake her thoughts away. She didn't want to think about Sun leaving. Ever.
Ok so about three years ago I got banned from my schools library, and just today I had to check out a book for a class and the librarian REFUSED TO LET ME CHECK OUT ONE BOOK!!! Like GODAMN it's been THREE YEARS and I NEED this book for a GRADE. So I just walked out of there with it and then brought it back when I was done. Bitch didn't even notice
So I’m gonna try and make this into a writing blog?!?! I’ll do prompts and stuff and try and finesse my writing skills while hopefully getting some feedback. I really want to publish a webtoon or book someday, so fingers crossed this is gonna be a ride
I'm still gonna post stupid shit sometimes tho

:current mood: The never-ending monologue of the pacer test interuppted every 5 minutes by a desperate scream of panic as I realize the inevitable. Never Gonna Give you up is also playing in the background
After Florida, it has been a huge reality check to realize that I am not safe in school, a place that supposedly strives to be a safe and comfortable environment. I realized that I can't be sure that one of my peers was not planning an attack on my school. And that is terrifying. This gun culture that we have is not healthy and I don't want it to continue. I don't want my kids to be afraid of getting shot in their English class. I want this fear to change into motivation to make our home safer, without using guns.
