Star Trek: Picard, 02.10 Farewell
Star Trek: Picard, 02.10 Farewell
I created a new reaction image...
what aspect of raffi do you feel doesn't get talked about enough or is underappreciated? spreading some love for every part of our beloved characters <3
I fear I only had to think about this for 0.2 seconds lmao. I know a lot of this is Beta canon and in The Last Best Hope, but it's the fact that Raffi was the one who first discovered the Romulan chatter about the supernova. Without her, they might not have had as much time to help and evacuate as many people as they did. But for Alpha canon, it's still that Raffi was Picard's First Officer. She was so competant and he trusted her with everything to do with the relief mission. She was just so good! She did her best. She did all of that and people don't give her her dues for it.
Happy Birthday to our best girl!!!!!
It's midnight here so I wanted to say Happy Birthday to her, of course. She's everything <3
Love her.
Birthday Raffi Edit <3
"La Sirena DnD Classes" ~ literally tell me *anything* you are happy to share please because I am S.C.REAMING at the very concept
Thank you and @song-spero and @dragonroar87 for asking about this! It's made me convert some vague bullet points into something (hopefully) slightly more readable. This is the first half, and I'll reblog it again when I finish the rest :)
La Sirena crew as D&D classes
Given how weird the La Sirena crew are, I think that all of these beloved weirdos would probably be homebrew everything. But here’s what I'm guessing they would be with 5e classes!
Soji - Sorcerer: Clockwork Soul
"An event in your past, or in the life of a parent or ancestor, left an indelible mark on you, infusing you with arcane magic." -PHB
Soji didn’t ask for the powers and abilities that she has - they happened to her because of her lineage, be that Data as an ‘ancestor’ or Maddox as a ‘higher power’ (gross). Her powers are a surprise to even herself, which feels very ‘Wild Magic’, but an even better fit is Clockwork Soul, especially when one of the d6 manifestations of the sorcerer's power is “Your skin glows with a brassy sheen” which feels very Coppelius-coded.
For background she gets Anthropologist, for the Adept Linguist feature (you can communicate with humanoids who don't speak any language you know) which would tie with the “speaking to an xB in their mother tongue” situation. She also has Cultural Chameleon which lets her blend in undetected with organic races as a synth.
Picard - Bard: College of Eloquence
“Adherents of the College of Eloquence master the art of oratory… These bards wield a blend of logic and theatrical wordplay, winning over skeptics and detractors with logical arguments, and plucking at heartstrings to appeal to the emotions of entire audiences.” - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Sounds pretty accurate to me! Picard is a Bard, because it rhymes AND because it’s true. For background he gets ‘folk hero’ since he objectively IS that (at least as far as Starfleet is concerned), and it comes with artisan’s tools of choice - in his case brewers tools as it’s the closest to wine. He also gets proficiency in animal handling because JL is a horse girl at heart 🐎✨ Which would be the end of it up to TNG S2, but then we get Locutus of Borg which we’re going to (as with all the xB’s) represent with a 1 level dip into Warlock - more on that when we get to Seven. Picard ALSO can’t stop there with the multiclassing since he spectacularly fails his death saves and is resurrected as a Synth - give that man a little sprinkle of Clockwork Soul too. Extensive main character energy for sure XD
Rios - Fighter: Cavalier
While Echo Knight would be an interesting way of explaining Rios' holosquad since these fighters are ‘Surrounded by echoes of their own might’, Rios is undoubtedly a Cavilier.
“The archetypal Cavalier excels at mounted combat. Cavaliers also learn how to guard those in their charge from harm, often serving as the protectors of their superiors and of the weak. Drawn to right wrongs … many of these fighters leave their lives of comfort to embark on glorious adventure.” - Unearthed Arcana 40
If you swap “mounted combat” with “Spaceship combat” then the Cavalier Fighter is perfect for Rios. He’s at home in the captain’s chair in both combat and leadership and seemingly can’t resist doing the right thing even when it’s difficult. He’s drawn to protect everyone that steps onto his ship, and his Starfleet and therefor military streak runs very deep - Cavalier are loyal and flamboyant soldiers, and hey, he already has the hat with a big feather!
Sadly Rios also has the shadow of what happened on the ibn Majid to deal with, a huge helping of death and tragedy that changes the course of his life from loyal officer to a smuggler on an unregistered ship. For this we’ll give Rios 3 levels of Rogue, enough to get him the subclass “Phantom”.
“Many rogues walk a fine line between life and death, risking their own lives and taking the lives of others. While adventuring on that line, some rogues discover a mystical connection to death itself.” - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Rios is haunted by the death of Vandermeer and can use Whispers of the Dead:
“Echoes of those who have died cling to you. Whenever you finish a short or long rest, you can gain one skill or tool proficiency of your choice, as a ghostly presence shares its knowledge with you.”
The three levels of Rogue also help with his current lifestyle of transporting people around and asking very few questions. His background is Smuggler to account for his unregistered ship (and notable swagger)
Raffi - Rogue: Inquisitive
“As an archetypal Inquisitive, you excel at rooting out secrets and unraveling mysteries. You rely on your sharp eye for detail, but also on your finely honed ability to read the words and deeds of other creatures to determine their true intent” - Xanathar's Guide to Everything
Mastermind, strategist, and sometime manipulator: Raffi needs no multiclass, she’s a Rogue Inquisitive through and through. The features Ear for Deceit and Eye for Detail give her that super reliable insight and Perception we know her for. At 17th level she gets Eye for Weakness (“you learn to exploit a creature's weaknesses by carefully studying its tactics and movement.”) which feels very *her*. Raffi’s background is Hermit, since she holed up at Vasquez rocks with her Tool Proficiencies with a Herbalism kit- aka snakeleaf.
Elnor - Monk: Way of the Kensei
“A kensei sees a weapon much in the same way a calligrapher or a painter regards a pen or brush. Whatever the weapon, the kensei views it as a tool used to express the beauty and precision of the martial arts. That such mastery makes a kensei a peerless warrior is but a side effect of intense devotion, practice, and study.” - Xanathar's Guide to Everything
It’s very tempting to make Elnor an Oath of Devotion Paladin because some of the Tenets of Devotion are honesty, courage, and compassion, and Elnor clutching the Fenris SOS in the artefact would be a great casting of Beacon of Hope (bonus - it would also give Hugh an advantage on his death save) However our boy is proven to have truly dogshit charisma (everyone abandons him, his jokes don’t land, and even other Romulans shun him - that boy is an outcast among outcasts - of course I love him, but charisma may just be his dump stat) so Paladin is out.
Monks of the Way of the Kensei train relentlessly with their weapons, to the point that the weapon becomes like an extension of the body. Founded on a mastery of sword fighting, the tradition has expanded to include many different weapons and 6th level comes with One With the Blade which seems about right. Give him a reskinned Vorpal Sword for his tan qalanq - since that decapitates an enemy on a crit. Then add his background as Acolyte from his time in the House of Truth, meaning he can lodge there for free as well as ask for assistance. Thanks for reading, I'll add more when I have the brain power!
[Ask me about a WIP!]
ROUND TWO!! Agnes - Artificer: Alchemist
“Masters of invention, artificers use ingenuity and magic to unlock extraordinary capabilities in objects. They see magic as a complex system waiting to be decoded and then harnessed in their spells and inventions." - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
As an expert in synthetic life Agnes is an Artificer. The Alchemist subclass provides Chemical Mastery which gives her resistance to acid and poison damage, a trait we see in action when she survives (just) a full hypospray of whatever neutralised the Romulan tracker in her blood. Alchemist also gives her the ability to cast Greater Restoration and Heal, very useful for when you have to bring a certain French guy back from the dead. Other Artificer features like The Right Tool for the Job and Flash of Genius really feel like Agnes using the field replicator to pull off the hundreds of ships ruse at the end of S1.
Her background is Sage, which gives her the Researcher feature as well as “a letter from a dead colleague posing a question you have not yet been able to answer”, which I’ll take as Maddox’s Synth research. Agnes gets a 1 level dip into Rogue for Sneak Attack (bye-bye Maddox) as well as expertise in Persuasion and Stealth (“I have a gift!”).
Hugh - Paladin: Oath of Redemption
Hugh is so much of a Paladin in HURTS. But first we have to dish out some xB pain.
All xBs have 1 level of Warlock to account for The Horrors, and since there are no Borg on the list of Patrons, The Undead will have to do. Besides, it fits pretty well:
“You've made a pact with a deathless being, a creature that defies the cycle and life and death, forsaking its mortal shell so it might eternally pursue its unfathomable ambitions." - Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft
As a 1st level Warlock Hugh receives Form of Dread, which gives some temporary hit points, as well as once per turn a creature might become frightened due to some physical manifestation of his Patron - in this case Hugh’s implants are a sign of his ‘pact’ with the Collective, and it freaks people out. Meanwhile he’s immune to the frightened condition - he’s seen too much for that. 1 level of Warlock also lets him cast Infestation, which serves as a stand-in for his nanoprobes.
That’s his xB side out of the way - now on to his life as the Director of the Borg Reclamation Project, as an Oath of Redemption Paladin:
“Paladins who dedicate themselves to this oath believe that any person can be redeemed and that the path of benevolence and justice is one that anyone can walk." - Xanathar's Guide to Everything
As a Paladin Hugh can use Aura of Protection to give his allies a bonus to saving throws, and Aura of Courage that means friendly creatures 10ft around him are immune to the frightened effect (because the xB’s in his care, love and trust him so so much. HELP).
The tenets of Oath of Redemption are: peace, innocence, patience, and wisdom. For Oath of Redemption Paladins violence is a weapon of last resort, they understand that change takes time, and are working to heal the wounds of a deeply flawed world. Starting at 7th level, he gets Aura of the Guardian and can shield his allies from harm, at the cost of his own health.
His background is Ruined (I’m not crying you’re crying) which comes with the Still Standing feature:
“You have weathered ruinous misfortune, and you possess hidden reserves others don’t expect. You gain the Alert, Skilled, or Tough feat (your choice). Your choice of feat reflects how you’ve dealt with the terrible loss that changed your life forever. If you’ve kept your senses sharp for every opportunity and climbed your way out of misery by seizing the tiniest scrap of hope, choose Alert. If you’ve redoubled your efforts to reclaim what was once yours, choose Skilled. If you’ve stoically persevered through your misfortune, select Tough.” - The Book of Many Things
Any of those traits are enough to give me feels for a month, so I think it’s dealer's choice which one he ends up with, since you could make a case for all of them.
Equipment wise, Warlock comes with two daggers, though one of which Hugh unwisely seems to have in his neck…
Seven - (FENRIS! lol) Ranger: Swarmkeeper
Seven as a character feels like a messy multiclass- she was human, then Borg, then Voyager’s freshly tamed ex-Borg, mellowing to xB, then branching out as a Fenris Ranger, an expert pilot and finally a member of La Sirena.
She has the same 1 level of Warlock as Hugh, giving her Form of Dread and Infestation for those xB heebiejeebies she gives the normies. After this, but while still on Voyager, she takes 2 levels of Cleric (hear me out!). Divine Spark allows her return hit points to a creature, which is putting it lightly since she brings Neelix back from the dead with her nanoprobes. She also gets Turn Undead, which lets her walk around a Borg cube without getting reassimilated. Seven doesn’t stick with that class long enough to get any more features though and instead multiclasses again to Ranger:
“Rangers learn to track their quarry as a predator does” - PHB
Outside of the irresistible Fenris Ranger connection, life as a (5e) Ranger suits Seven perfectly. Starting equipment comes with Studded Leather Armor, which takes the form of that excellent jacket! Rangers have a Favoured Enemy, which is Seven’s case would be Bjayzl (or xB hunters in general). For fighting style she ops for Two-Weapon Fighting since we see her duel-wield those phaser rifles so impressively. Seven also benefits from the features of Tireless, Relentless Hunter, and Feral Senses - buffs that all feel very *her*. At 3rd level she takes the Swarmkeeper subclass, as she (temporarily) becomes a Borg Queen on board the Artefact:
“The swarm becomes a potent force in battle, as well as helpful—if potentially disturbing—company for the ranger.” - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Seven’s background is Faceless, since in her mind:
“Being who you are, you could never be a hero. Whether due to your class, your people, your family, or your sins, something about you prevents you from effectively pursuing the path you've chosen. Even so, that doesn't stop you. You've left your old face behind, taking on a new persona, becoming something more. // Characters with the faceless background don a disguise—literally or otherwise—as they adventure.” - Baldur's Gate - Descent into Avernus
Seven can’t hide her implants, but she's sure doing a lot more masking than in her Voyager days. This background has a tragic vibe to it that makes me want to chew furniture, which is always a good sign in D&D prep.
(Bonus)
Narek & Narissa - Paladin: Oath of the Watchers
“Paladins who follow the Watchers' oath are ever vigilant in spotting the influence of extraplanar forces, often establishing a network of spies and informants to gather information on suspected cults.” -Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
I feel less invested in figuring out these two - but the Oath of the Watchers was too good a match not to mention!
Thanks for reading! And thanks @moonxshape @song-spero and @dragonroar87 for asking me about this and giving me a reason to actually post it :D

That's us, together.
While we're looking up at the Artemis II astronauts journeying to the Moon, they're looking back home at us.
In this image, Earth peeks through the capsule window, reminding us that a view like this relies on the ingenuity and hard work of countless people back home.
In the second image, we see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere.
