the face of a boy being so totally normal about his platonic bro best mate confessing his undying romantic love for him on the stairs of hell not a few hours prior
he is seconds away from kicking his feet and twirling his hair I'm so serious
So in a lot of fanfics I’ve read Edwin is touch averse to everyone, including Charles, and it’s like “touches like this are rare” blah blah blah (not hating bcs I love them all) but if we look at the show, they casually touch all the time, (they’re obsessed with each other). My absolute favourite scene is in episode one where Charles is trying to teach Edwin boxing and he’s all bouncing around and he does this thing where he mimes drilling into Edwin’s head with a hand drill and Edwin just looks like he’s trying not to smile and lightheartedly shoves him away. Trust me that is not something you do with someone you’re not comfortable touching. Give me Edwin seeking out touch from Charles and he’s so gentle even in his admonishments and it’s not the kind of touch either of them are used to. Give me Charles shying away from Edwin at first because he had to be such a typical boy when he was alive and the only touches with his friends were slaps on the back or punches on his arms, and he wouldn’t dare hurt Edwin because he’s the best person Charles has met. Give me them learning how to touch until it’s so casual they barely notice when Charles swings his legs over Edwin’s on their little sofa, or when Edwin uses a hand on Charles’ back when he’s going past, or when they fumble into each other (because come on they’re lanky teenage boys they don’t have control over their limbs, coming from a lanky teenager) smoothing over the nonexistent pain with their palms.
TLDR: I want more soft DBD fanfics with casual (platonic) touches until it’s not so platonic anymore.

Imagining the agency develops a "detective of the month" thing but edwin rigs it so every month a new framed picture of niko hangs on the wall
Edwin & Crystal + touch
doing a re-read of the raven cycle and i have to say i find the use of the different character pov chapters fascinating, mainly in terms of ronan and his relationship to the gangsey.
like, in the raven boys, there’s no ronan chapters — we have to really depend on gansey (and sometimes adam) to tell us what ronan’s all about. it’s sort of a testament to how well they know each other. gansey knows ronan well enough to explain his actions and his way of thinking as well as slipping in glimpses of the ronan he used to know — which then sets up the dream thieves and us actually getting to see inside ronan’s head.
the dream thieves is where ronan finally has the opportunity to explain his actions and thoughts in his own pov, mainly because something so crazy is revealed to us on the last page of the raven boys. we dive in and learn about how ronan thinks and about his secrets and his past and “ronan’s second secret was adam parrish.”
and then, in blue lily, lily blue, we again have no ronan chapters. but this time, post second secret reveal, we have adam understanding and explaining ronan’s actions and thoughts. it shows just how much their relationship has deepened since the raven boys. this time we don’t just have gansey, someone who knew him before, to rely on, but also adam, someone who knows him after. even blue is starting to understand the functionality of ronan.
then it all comes to a head in the raven king: we have ronan chapters again because everyone has finally started to understand him fully. we get to see both how he is perceived and how he thinks. adam and gansey and blue all know him better — they’ve bonded and changed.
i don’t know if this exactly makes sense, i have a visual motor deficit so it’s much easier for me to put things to words out loud rather than written/typed, but i just wanted to put this out there.
i'm almost done rereading the dream thieves and i have more to say🧍🏼♀️ (specifically about ronan and gansey's relationship)
okay here's my "more to say" since i finished my reread of the dream thieves.
first off, i don't think it's a coincidence that in the book where gansey is doubting everything about his relationships and importance to both ronan and adam is also the book in which we get ronan's pov. beforehand, having to rely on gansey to understand ronan showed gansey's own understanding of ronan. here, we see gansey doubting ronan in his own perspective and then in the next chapter ronan is doing everything in order to make sure gansey forgives him for wrecking the pig because that's his best fucking friend. it shows how gansey's insecurity clouds how well he truly knows ronan.
to me, ronan is a character that values spending time with those he loves and cares about. he may put off this whole "big tattooed bald angry man i hate everyone" facade, but truly he isn't like that at all. he goes to church every sunday with his brothers because no matter what he says or thinks, he loves them. he hangs out with blue even though he acts like she riles his feathers because he genuinely likes her and thinks of her as a friend, she is someone he cares about.
ronan's love language (to me) is quality time. he's just someone who really cares about who he hangs out with and it's how he shows his love. so when kavinsky presents this way to fix his pig-gansey issue — because he genuinely thought that gansey would never want to be in the same space as him again — he takes it, but only as a means to show gansey how sorry he is and how much he means to him.
again, we get the gansey pov where he's having a crisis about ronan because he never thought that he'd take the pig, much less wreck it, and so he doesn't even know if ronan cares about him the same way gansey cares about him meanwhile ronan is just trying so hard to get the pig back for gansey because he loves him dearly. ronan is working so hard to do something good for gansey, something nice.
and then gansey comes back from his parent's place. and he laughs when ronan pulls up with the pig and apologizes because he realizes how wrong he was to ever doubt his best friend.
it's one of the very first times that we see gansey misinterpret and misunderstand ronan. and i just think the difference between reading gansey having a crisis while ronan is doing everything in his power to make things right is one of my favorite parts of the book.

ok now imagine trc if everyone treated Ronan's tree nut allergy the same way they treated Gansey's bee allergy
thinking about an interview that melissa did where she talked about being an immigrant working actor in the US and how she and her fellow immigrants have to be careful about saying anything that contradicts the US government because if they ever apply for citizenship, the comments they make will be brought up in their citizenship interviews and their request for citizenship will be denied.
imo as an immigrant this only adds an even more impressive layer to her pro-palestine support. it's not just her career that's in jeopardy, it's her entire livelihood in this country. i wish more people were brave like her and i also wish people weren't being fucking censored for being anti-genocide so that this wouldn't have to happen to her
when a ship involves one character being so utterly devoted to the other that its borderline religious????? when the devoted character is written to be seen as a sinner, or damned, or a non believer??? and the other character an angel or god-like???? i simply eat that shit UP how can you not??
(head in hands) mint is a hornet repellent. mint is a hornet repellent.
the “glendower was dead, had always been dead, and gansey kind of wanted to live” line has such a double meaning because on one hand we learn that the glendower who whispered to gansey was noah all along so the line is actually talking about noah, not glendower. but also gansey was going to wish noah back to life despite knowing that gansey himself was going to die in the next year. and then in the end noah gives up his life and afterlife so that gansey can live. noah was dead, had always been dead, but at least he made it so that gansey could live
