Entered the South Figaro caves and MYSTERIOUS FIGURE?? IN SHADOW'S COLOR PALETTE?? Can it be....?
Wait, hold on... This shadowy (hah!) figure is sneaking off to STEAL treasure from chests? Can it be....?!
So... A mysterious Royal Crown... That can only be worn by those with royal blood...? I know what I'm gonna do if/when I get Gerad in my party!
Aw, they didn't let me live in uncertainty for long enough for me to enact my brilliant plan of revealing Gerad's deception using the royal blood detecting crown 😔
They did, however, throw a tentacle monster at me out of nowhere which immediately threw my mind back to this post oh no
Also, these scenes are kinda hilarious with Sabin, once again, just standing there while Celes and Edgar talk. He got that one line, "You could have told us," but when viewed from the lens of "this is his actual twin brother whom he might not have seen since they were all separated a year ago after the world was torn apart" it feels just a teeeensy tinsy bit bitter 😂 I know that it isn't, because it's Sabin, but still.
All these guards on opposite sides of the room that says the same exact line when spoken to... Do you think they work together to decide their line for the day before they go to their post, or do they take turns deciding what to say any given day?🤔
I feel bad asking for the castle to be sunk back into the sand right after they finally got free 😬
.... Darill's tomb... I don't remember a Darill. Should I have? (Rhetoric question). I just have the vague feeling that if I weren't acquainted with Darill before this, I might be by the end of the game 😬🧟👻
Went to Kohlingen, and got so excited about the rumours of this great and polite warrior, thinking I would be going hunting down Cyan next, so I got caught completely off guard seeing Setzer just hanging out right there at the inn! And hey, he knows Darill's tomb, so maybe there won't be any nasty surprises there later in the game after all!
Sidenote: Oh my god I cannot believe I haven't seen any of their imp portraits until just now, this is hilarious
That said, this tomb? Very grand. Extremely so. Which raises the question of how Setzer knew someone so well off/high status/possible nobility?? And who was he to her?
Also, I gotta admit FFVIII has instilled in me such a great instinctive fear of malboros that it surprised me how easy these were in comparison. They didn't even target my whole party at once!
Ooohh, so THAT'S Darill... How the hell did they manage to make 285 pixels look so sexy?? And I'm saying this as an ace person!
Wait, hold on, the cliff Setzer was waiting on isn't the same cliff as the one Celes threw herself over before, is it? Surely it's a coincidence and/or a re-use of assets 🤔
That will have to do for this time – next up, flying around the world, going everywhere I'm not currently supposed to go! And maybe see if I can't track down that mysterious shadowy figure from back in the caves somehow.
I never bring Gogo to the final battle because they're too powerful.
rereading your own fics/wips is a very slippery slope into finding out you actually have to finish your fics if you want them finished

It's time to bring Shadow back in to the story and I just now realize I forgot to include Interceptor last time.

Playing FFVI, next round of thoughts coming up:
The new overworld theme is hauntingly beautiful, and very fitting for this new world Celes has found herself in
I came across some enemies in the tiny desert and they immediately died?? Without me doing anything. Not sure if they were supposed to have died of exposure of exhaustion or something completely different. Either way it's not a good sign 😬
The visual parallel of Celes climbing the stairs to toss the bouquet over the edge when playing Maria, and now her climbing the cliffs to toss herself over the edge... Same musical theme playing. Sort of the same story theme too; now it feels like back in the play, the bouquet symbolized Maria's wish to escape her lonely fate, same as Celes now.
Also... Considering where Celes washed up on the shore... I imagine Cid would have woken up to quite horrific sights over the years considering what he said about the other people from the island. One by one, the living threw themselves over the cliffs. One by one, the dead washed up on the shore. One by one, he buried their bodies where he could.
Can't wait to see if this version of Locke's theme will be in Final Bar Line. It's so soft.
Someone in town mentioned there being eight Legendary Dragons........ I guess I know what I'll be doing eventually 🥲
Aw nooo apparently the eight dragons are sealing away some ancient mighty force. Guess I know what I'll be doing after I've fought the dragons 🫠
(Unless, if the dragons are bad, the Crusader turns out to be good. Unless unless the dragons were actually good all along and the Crusader is going to destroy me)
COMPLETE side track: I just remembered there was this one single time when I had Shadow on my team and we spent the night at an inn and it activated a flashback/dream of some kind?? And it never happened again?? I thought it would be connected to Shadow because I didn't recognize any of the people or names... I guess it shall remain a mystery for now 🤔
I want a remake just so I can see the biggest hug of relief and joy Celes must've given to Sabin when she realized he was alive, and consequently that the rest of them might be too. She's not alone anymore! 🥺
I'd better find Locke soon, there's so many creatures with good items to steeaal

I have to admit I did NOT see that coming, not at all. Terra, single mother of nine kids. Not... exactly sure what to think about that just yet. I'll need to wait and see how they tie this into her journey of self discovery and personhood 🤔
Gerad... Did you just scramble the letters in Edgar to get that cover name? 😆
I know it's because the only guaranteed party member right now is Celes, but it feels so awkward to be arguing about whether or not Gerad is Edgar while his twin brother is standing right beside us 😂 Can't wait to go look for fanart of that moment later when I'm done with the game
I'll have to stop there for now, it's getting late. Next time, to Figaro Castle!

There are so many unrecognized skills rolled into writing:
knowing what kind of feedback helps you most is a skill
assessing the quality of the feedback is a skill
wrangling the emotional complexities of sharing your writing is a skill
not letting the nice comment happy chemicals unbalance you is a skill
and none of those things are even writing

Be kind to yourself when you're navigating these issues and remember that each of these is a skill separate from writing that maybe you haven't developed yet.
Give yourself the grace and time you need to improve on these areas too.
And forgive yourself if you find these things difficult. You're not born knowing how to do them. You get better at them with practice and with time. 💗

So as you might expect, I had some thoughts about this leg of the FFVI journey, however short it's been since the last update.
1) Shadow keeps absconding from the party and it makes me sad :(
2) I wonder what would've happened had Celes not been in my party? She'd probably pop in anyway, right? Maybe I'll reload a save from before and try to see what happens... 🤔
3) I THINK THE HELL NOT
4) GET HIM, CELES!! That stab was sooooo satisfying, you go girl!!
5) Ah... The inevitable fall of Emperor Gestahl. That's what happens when you employ and enable a madman whose main goals in life is "Gaining power" and "Doing whatever the hell he wants with it". Also, Kefka literally kicking him when he's down feels somehow more brutal than the magic lightning strike that felled him in the first place.
6) SHADOW TO THE RESCUE!! AAAaaand he's gone again. Sigh. But! I'm convinced we'll see him again!! He's gotta pick up his dog at some point. Right? Right.
7) This Final Fantasy is very magic focused. At least, more than most others I've played before. It's not unusual for the big bads to be more magic focused than the heroes, and I think it might be because I play a lot with Terra and Celes that it feels like the heroes are more magic-y, but! At the same time, "more magic" is the goal of both Gestahl and Kefka. Which feels like more magic focus than a lot of the others. None of them even have a signature weapon (yet).
8) Oh! Oh.....
.....
.... This feels like I've gotten the bad ending of the game somehow. Like... You failed! The world is collapsing! None of what you did mattered in the end!
(Luckily– it's not the end. We can fix this.
... Right?)
9) That said, the cutscenes in this??? Amazing. The cut to the world from orbit, seeing the giant landmass tearing apart? That was really really cool.
10) Time skip??? Time skip!!
11) Celes asking after Locke right after she woke up 🥺
12) Oh, Cid dumping some horrific lore right off the bat, huh. 😭
I guess the grandfather-granddaughter comment could be sweet, but... Well. There's the whole "yeah sure I raised you from infancy but also for the explicit purpose of running experiments on you that irrevocably changed you" thing. And I also suspect she might not keep this brand new grandfather for long, considering he's fallen ill and all.
Anyhow, next time I guess I'll go catch grandpa some fish...!
