Retro Game Books and I have been ships in the night when it came to wanting to collab together, so when they finally reached out and shared the topic with me, I was really excited.

A lot of folks don’t realize that they I have, unfortunately, been committing very heavily to this bit. On this Hallow’s Eve, let me remind you.
Monsters & Mysteries is a webcomic and my pet project, inspired by tabletop RPGs and absolutely nothing else how dare you imply these are derivative characters.
Currently, three chapters are complete and online for free (though you can pay what you want for high res PDFs) with the fourth about halfway done. (Patrons also get early access at the highest resolution). Funding goes back into webhosting: I’m just happy when people read and enjoy what I put out for free, and what better day than today! :D
If I'm allowed to get soapboxy on my little art blog...
Other than Newgrounds (the only platform that's friendly to artists), I don't post my webcomic directly on any platforms. The internet really barreled towards slop and content and consolidated itself to like five platforms that all link to one another, but I remember when The Internet was A Place.
I get a lot of "I didn't realize you actually put effort into this, and that it's actually good" from folks who kinda just scroll through Content the way that these platforms want you to. It's really not the kind of art that the Enshittified Internet is built for. I chased memable art for a few years, and it was fun, and I was good at it, but I kinda grew out of the junk food and craved more nutrition.
I'm nearing 100 pages as I wrap up chapter 4 and I don't think any of page works out of context to just post on it's own. There's always some sort of layering of story, or lore, or spoilers...it's a very traditional comic and once I finish chapter 5 I'll likely do a short print run because that's how it really wants to live.
(No, I won't touch webtoon, for a whole other batch of reasons...)
I didn't even realize that there was Tumblr Drama happening today. Tumblr isn't a very good platform. All the platforms are kinda bad now. Bluesky is okay but who knows when VC money is gonna trash that place too. It's basically a nicotine patch for Twitter addicts like me.
I'm a big believer in the idea that the future of internet culture is gonna have to migrate back to the "indie web". I would encourage those of you who have the means to host your own slice of the internet rather than renting from landlords. You might not be surprised to learn how easy it is. MnM's hosting is funded by a very modest group of patrons, which is enough for me to justify doing it. Once in awhile I add a section or change the layouts. It's like running a living zine.
So yea. I dunno how to wrap this TED Talk. Read MnM! Build a website! Mourn this place if you want? I dunno, I'm not your pastor.
