INTRO POST

Hello! This is YET ANOTHER VERA BLOG. This one takes place in the Masterful timeline, where she gets adopted by every version of the Master. This version of Vera goes by the title of the Apprentice, gifted to her by Saxon!Master. She's far less confident than her other two versions and fully relies on her new family to keep her safe.

The Apprentice is a 97 year old Time Lord who can hear the drums. She's also a gifted psychic, even though she doesn't know it yet. She internalizes just about everything that's said to her.

This entire idea started just from me sending asks to @oopstoomanymasters by the way and NOW SHE IS NO LONGER LIMITED TO THE ASKBOX

A small, frightened brunette in an elegant purple dress stares at the Doctor. She's too scared to speak.

The Doctor stared, and scooted back. Swallowing nervously.

“..I won’t hurt you.”

He promised weakly. His eyes glassy and his face pale. He was sure he looked dead. But he wasn’t. Not yet.

“..i..you were at the wedding, weren’t you? Hello my dear I’m Theta..what’s your name?”

He looked terrible... Almost like a ghost...

"...i- i'm the Apprentice, it's very nice to meet you... i- i'm so sorry he did this to you, y- you shouldn't- n- nobody should be treated like this, it... it's not right!"

Her voice trembled with a mixture of fear and anger. She really meant it. No one should be locked away and tortured to the point that they look like this... No one...

The doctor cleared his throat, and managed a smile.

“..he uhm..it’s alright..it’s alright. Don’t be sorry, it isn’t your fault. You shouldn’t have to apologize for the things he does.”

He scooted further back. Trying to hide himself from her gaze.

“I’m sorry you have to see me like this.”

“No, this- a- all of this is wrong, you shouldn’t be down here, h- he shouldn’t be doing this to you, he shouldn’t have forced you to marry him- I- I don’t understand why he’s doing this but I- I hate it and I wish he’d just- stop it, let you go and- and-“

She drops her gaze to the floor, unable to keep herself from sobbing. The floodgates are open. The fear, the anxiety, the confusion, everything that she’s felt since the Doctor was trapped in the basement… it was all too much. She doesn’t even try to stop herself from crying. She hugs herself and just sobs.

“Wh- why is he doing this? Why can’t they just- let you go??”

“We have history he and I..I..assume he’s rather..angry with me..”

His eyes soften at the sight, and he sighs.

“Oh..oh please don’t cry..it’ll be alright..I’m alive aren’t i? It’s okay..”

"Him being angry at you doesn't- h- he doesn't get to treat you like this, he doesn't get to lock you up like- like some kind of animal! it- it's cruel, it's wrong, all of this is wrong!!"

He said softly, swallowing down his nerves

“I..I believe Missy has tried to get me out..several times actually but he..he stops it. Every single time. Ushas has tried to but-“

His vision got blurry, and he let out a shaky sigh.

“S..sorry I just..I need a minute..”

"it- it's okay, take your time... i- i didn't mean to upset you..."

Missy tried? That's good, at least not everyone is on board with this messed up plan. She wiped her tears on her sleeve and took some deep breaths, trying to calm herself. She's safe, she's okay... It's okay...

"...d- do you need anything? i can try to bring you some food and water..."

He mumbled, wiping tears from his eyes and managing a weakened smile.

“Food and water would be lovely.”

The Apprentice scampered up the steps, closing the door behind her. She returned about five minutes later with some bread and a bottle of water. She slid the items through the bars and took a step back.

“…y- you introduced yourself as Theta… why?… I- I thought your title is the Doctor…”

“Oh I..”

He sniffled, letting out a tired sigh.

“…I..I forgot..I’m sorry..”

He took the water and the bread. Sniffing it first for anything he shouldn’t be eating, or drinking for that matter. Saxon had his moments after all.

“..thank you Miss Vera.”

"It- it's fine, everyone forgets things sometimes...."

The bread and water were fine, nothing weird in them.

She froze.

"...h- how did- how do you know my real name? i'm- i'm not supposed to be called that anymore- i- i'm the Apprentice-"

He picked the bread apart, and ate little bits of him. Nodding.

“…I..I’m sorry. I have my own Vers so I..sometimes, I get confused

He admitted weakly, rubbing at his eyes.

“I’m sorry.”

“You do?… is… is she like me? Can she hear the drums, too?”

The Apprentice took a seat on the floor, bits of dust getting on her dress. She didn’t mind. She was curious about this other Vera. Perhaps she was braver, smarter, stronger… happier… She must miss the Doctor quite a bit…

[Enough is enough. She needs to know the truth. She needs to know what’s happening to the Doctor. She grabs her screwdriver and goes to the basement, opening the door and sneaking down the stairs. She uses her screwdriver to light her way.]
