Sometimes, against your better judgement, you may find yourself seeing or hearing something that you know should turn you on, but your feminist conditioning has taught you to consider “sexist”.
Maybe it’s the way a celebrity is asked questions about her relationships or her body instead of about her work. Maybe it’s how you’re treated at work by male colleagues. Maybe it’s some comment you get in your DMs on this very site.
You’ll instinctively want to point out “That’s Sexist!” - don’t do this, for the following reasons:
1) it will make you seem shrill and annoying. People won’t want to be around you if you’re constantly policing them. You don’t want to be boring and difficult, you want to be fun and easy to be around
2) it’s redundant. Men do know when they’re being sexist. They just don’t care. You pointing it out doesn’t achieve anything.
So, for a happier life, in the interests of being more fun, in the interests of getting more attention, let’s try to reframe that unhealthy impulse to point out things that are sexist.
This can be done with a simple, well placed, ‘e’. Begin to completely replace the word ‘sexist’ with the word ‘sexiest’ in your vocabulary. Just think of it as an adjustment to pronunciation.
Is a man talking to you like your only value is your tits?
It’s not sexist - it’s sexiest!
Does a man automatically assume you don’t know something and goes to explain it to you?
Rando in your DMs telling you that a woman’s place is in the kitchen or on her knees?
See how such a subtle change can completely reframe the interaction! Now you’re not an irritating, prudish women’s libber; you’re a fun little bimbo; acknowledging that yeah, it is kind of hot to be objectified!
It is sexiest to accept that men can talk to you and treat you how they please. Wouldn’t it be hot to be turned on as you making yourself complicit in them being sexiest.
Tell the men who treat you that way that they’re being sexiest. They’ll sincerely thank you for the feedback and you’ll feel good about yourself because of it.
Tell men that they’re being sexiest and reinforce it by rereading what they said and touching yourself.
