Whatever man,
ne'er torn nor tattered
none-exhaustive rl Lieb Lore List that speilhanks ignored -he was one of the oldest in the company -he was austrian (born in michigan), and spoke a different dialect of german, which the other translators assumed was yiddish -he had a breakdown in bastogne which led to winters taking him off the line to be his runner, lieb went back against advice, had another breakdown, and was put into intelligence where he allegedly tortured and shot a german prisoner first chance he got; winters regarded this as an 'atrocity'. winters also believed that any enlisted man who 'was a killer' was trying to prove himself to the others - had a 'reputation' for hating germans and for demonstrating that hatred against prisoners, he had to be relieved of his job of marshalling pows - allegedly ambushed (potentially multiple?) german patrols in carentan and holland without authorisation and came back with rings and fingers -its likely that speirs (another known... shenaniganner) tipped lieb off to the location of the camp officer in austria -not funny, but he was apparently so racist the rest of the company told him to knock it off (how bad you have to be for 1940s soldiers to tell you to cool it with the bigotry i don't even WANT to know) - company barber, but we sort of see that

"Captain Speirs, for all his bluster and reputation, cared for the men. Sensing their boredom, he arranged a sightseeing trip to Cologne. He wanted them to see the city and the effects of air bombardment."
