Cloth Menstrual Pads are Wonderful!

When you make cloth menstrual pads for a living, you tend to get a lot of skeptical looks from people. Surprisingly, I find it more often that it is women who are taken aback than men.

I think it's because men can look at it more objectively? Generally speaking, males do not have an intimate relationship with a period.

I'm not saying all women are "icked" out by cloth pads, far from! I would not be privileged enough to be an eco-artisan without the support of many people!

I would like to one day see menstruation as less taboo. For the majority of women it's a simple fact of biology, it's just another process, and there's no reason for it to be frowned upon, or made secret.

Cloth menstrual pads are a terrific choice. Most importantly, they're comfortable! No more itchiness of throwaway paper & plastic "sanitary napkins" (even the term makes me feel ill at ease about menstruation, is it no wonder as a society we like to hide it in the broom closet?).

I've been making cloth pads for over 5 years now. I am a small artisan located in Canada, and all my pads are made with Canadian-manufactured earth-friendly fabrics. Please feel free to contact me!

I made this sign for our house because several of the guys I live with thought it was “disgusting” to see bloody tampons/pads, after a used pad had unfurled from its toliet paper cocoon in the trash.

Is menstruation gross to you?

So there's talk lately of how people are disgusted by menstrual blood. Why is it disgusting? What makes it "gross"? Why does what some women do with their menstrual blood get others up in arms?

Menstruation is natural.

Menstrual blood is natural.

The first step to being comfortable in your own body is to understand that its functions are not gross or disgusting, but just functions. Let go of the hatred. Find your love.

About Menstruation

The more time I spend here on Tumblr, the more I realize how (apparently) mystified women and girls are about menstruation. 

It doesn't have to be bad.

It doesn't have to be painful.

It doesn't have to be a "curse".

There are ways to reduce all the side effects.

Please girls, take the time to learn about your body. And if you have any questions, you can always ask!

I am a bio-female who has gone through puberty. I am accurately and fairly universally read this way.

Statistically speaking, it is not unreasonable to assume that at some point or another, I menstruate.

This fact doesn’t offend or shame me in any way. It’s a royal pain and I’d pay to not...

I’ve been in the mood to sew. Tonight I made this fun little set of 4 Matersum cloth pads. They measure 7.5″ long by 2.25″ wide (when snapped). They’re perfect for those light to medium days!  Oh I love them so! These will also be in the shop this week!

Your period can be better

The way I see it, I can choose to complain about my period, get angry, and do everything to suppress it (possibly to my detriment), OR I can try to understand it, understand my hormones, and improve the situation by making cyclical changes. 

Given the choice, I choose to educate myself.

I made a 7-day rainbow pack of moderate flow cloth menstrual pads I'll be adding to my shop this week. I love the way they turned out!

I bought some cloth pads as back up for my menstrual cup when I go out places (it always seems to leak when I am out and about >.> probably due to movement). They turned up this morning. They’re so well made and the material is so soft. 

Be really nice to not have to use any disposable products whatsoever any more. Definitely going to buy more when I can afford it but I will get by for now!

Edit: my “private parts” are very happy with me right now.
