Expression softens just briefly, seriousness interrupted by a roll of his eyes. A sigh escapes through barely parted lips.

“ D’you really have to jump to the worst conclusion ? Gimme the benefit of the doubt, Jackie. ”

Gabriel extends a hand to cover Jac’s eyes, the touch firm and unrelenting. Just a glimpse of his true form could bring irreparable damage. There’s a bright, golden glow of which he is the epicenter, growing in intensity until his wings finish unfurling, and the room dims again. Only then does Gabriel move his hand.

“ No bodies in my basement, not unless you’re talking about Hell. ”

“Hey, I’m just sayin’. If it’s bodies, I’m allowed to freak. Also, we talked about this ‘Jackie’ thing, Gabe dear. That’s a no-no.”

The sudden hand covering her eyes has her hesitating a moment, some of the good humor fading away and replacing with worry. “....okay, now you’re starting to freak me out a little. What’s with the covering of my eyes??” She has to blink a few times when he finally does pull his hand away, brows furrowed in the middle.

“Seriously Gabriel, what’s your---” Holy shit. “Wings. Those are. Wings. Uh. Those are fake, right? Like, this is some cosplay thing you were embarrassed to tell me about?” She knows they look too real for that to be true, but it’s worth a shot.

His cover’s blown. It’s a ticking time bomb, keeping Jac in the dark. Now or never. She’ll recover from the shock of finding out that her assistant isn’t who ( what ) she’d thought, but her chances of making it unscathed through the consequences of wandering into this blindly are much slimmer.

Those aren’t exactly reassuring words to hear. Especially not when combined with how abnormally serious Gabriel seems right now. It’s a look Jac’s not used to seeing on him by any means. He’s always teasing, always full of spunk. Serious isn’t how she knows Gabe.

“.....that depends what kind of crazy we’re talking about. I mean, if you’re confessing to bodies in your basement, I think I’ll be entitled to blowing at least a gasket.”

Sorry for the lack of fancy graphic, but as the header says, this is a permanent starter call! What does that mean? By liking this, it means you are welcoming interaction with me.
