"The Chinese have figured out that they have a giant environmental problem. Folks in Beijing, some days, literally can't breathe. Over a million Chinese die prematurely every year because of air pollution. And the pollution generated in China is choking us, not just the Chinese. One of the examples I used on the campaign trail last year was that after the Japanese tsunami, we had huge chunks of cement, chunks of piers, washing up on the beach in Oregon. If the current can carry that stuff across the ocean, imagine what's coming across in the atmosphere. So we have a great opportunity here to figure out how we can not only begin to wean ourselves off of carbon-based fuels but wean the world off of them too."
- Joe Biden, Rolling Stone
One of the most spectacular #lightning strikes we have ever seen. This photo was taken near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Photo: Travis Roe
It’s the loss of government jobs that’s holding back the economy.
We see some great things here at the White House every day, and sharing that stuff with you is one of the best parts of our jobs. That’s why we’re launching a Tumblr. We’ll post things like the best quotes from President Obama, or video of young scientists visiting the White House for the science...
We put aside our partisan differences... Oh wait
Speechless. miscellanyblue:
In the wake of the tragic Boston Marathon bombings, Granite Staters put aside our partisan differences and came together in shared purpose… Oh wait. Hours after the second bombing suspect was captured, state Rep. John Burt (R-Goffstown) shared this nugget on Facebook:
They were living off the tax payers from what I understand. Do you think they used their “Obama Phone” to set those bombs off?
We need to ban “Obama Phones” and pressure cookers.
your new Secretary of Defense, America
congratulations he is a master of disguise
What a country.
I like their site because it allows you to predict probability of individual states.
I do have a financial stake in the outcomes, I'll post my intrade results tomorrow. My largest (by far) position is the reelection of Barack Obama. I do have smaller positions that Democratic nominee will win more than 300, 310, and 320 electoral votes. I also shorted a Republican winning a Florida (probably a good bet), and North Carolina (probably not a good one).
Romney vs. Sandy
"In fact, the NYTimes should require that Silver, and other pundits, bet their beliefs. Furthermore, to remove any possibility of manipulation, the NYTimes should escrow a portion of Silver’s salary in a blind trust bet. In other words, the NYTimes should bet a portion of Silver’s salary, at the odds implied by Silver’s model, randomly choosing which side of the bet to take, only revealing to Silver the bet and its outcome after the election is over. A blind trust bet creates incentives for Silver to be disinterested in the outcome but very interested in the accuracy of the forecast. Overall, I am for betting because I am against bullshit. Bullshit is polluting our discourse and drowning the facts. A bet costs the bullshitter more than the non-bullshitter so the willingness to bet signals honest belief. A bet is a tax on bullshit; and it is a just tax, tribute paid by the bullshitters to those with genuine knowledge."
This is a great take on the NY Times public editor criticizing a bet Nate Silver made on his model against a critic, Joe Scarborough, with proceeds going to Red Cross.
Vote November 6th.
"In these tense and anxious weeks, I know that every American citizen wants to know what he can do for his country. Not everyone can serve in our armed forces, or serve our government, but there is one thing you can do. There is one way you
can indicate your devotion to freedom. There is one way in which we can show how strongly we believe in our democracy. Next Tuesday, November 6th, is election day. I hope every American will turn out and vote - every American, every member of his family - and show the world how strongly we believe in freedom. How strongly we believe in our country. How strongly we believe in democracy."
Gotham Logos is a tumblr listing logos using the Gotham typeface. I submitted my campaign logo to their directory, and it was approved.
Mitt Romney: "Would it be wonderful if everyone in the country agree with you and me that life begins at conception? And that we're all going to agree that we're not going to have legal abortion in the nation?" Frank Guinta agrees. He supports a ban on abortion with no exceptions including: rape, incest, or when a mother's life is in danger. Mitt Romney: "My view is that the Supreme Court should reverse Roe v. Wade" Frank Guinta agrees, and that is why Mitt and Frank are wrong for women, and wrong for New Hampshire.
