views like this are worth way more than a lift ticket...especially if you amortize my season pass over the total days skied
today was a rest day...but the weather was so nice I decided to go for a mellow walk on skis - just to the waterfall...but once I got there I spotted a fun little ice move over the falls that I just had to try out...and of course, at that point it made perfect sense to go up a little further & over to the lower cirque, you know, to check the snow conditions and maybe take a quick lap...but gosh, from there it’s just a hop, skip, and a steep ascent up to the top of the cirque, which is such a great spot for a lunch break before skiing down...but no sooner had I arrived than I got to thinking about how I really like the view from the lake better and maybe I could spot some avalanche activity on the summit ridge...however, the lake is right at the base of the horn, which, now that I think about it, would clearly have the best snow on the whole mountain today, so... Anyway, that’s how I ended up here on a rest day.

While I stopped briefly to shoot this on my way down today, some nearby climber dudes started yelling at me thinking I was their buddy, ‘Drew’. I don’t know why they kept trying - as if Drew would reward their importunity. As they called down in vain, I debated the relative utilities of no response versus expressly identifying myself as ‘not Drew’. I tried to imagine what Drew would do in such a situation, so I could do the opposite and not confuse anyone any more than they already were. In the end, I just skied away. I hope Drew’s friends figure it out.
Utah and I don’t get along very well after living in Stanley, but I’m compelled to admit that today was rather nice, despite some entirely hateful snow
