Your words ricochet in Matt’s head as he slaps cards down on the pile, scowling deeply at his competitors.

I want it to be this fuckin’ time, he thinks to himself. He can still taste that little bit of sweetness lingering from your lip balm, still smell that little bit of your scent on his sweatshirt. “Oh boy,” you say, approaching to provide a stabilizing hand to Randy as he sways. “Did someone get a little too juiced?”

“Maybe...” Randy giggles, taking another slurp of his drink.

Matt seethes, clenching his jaw. He can smell you again, and all he wants to do is taste you again, too.

“Can you make sure he gets home okay, Matty?” you ask.

“Anything for my little bro,” he says through gritted teeth.

Matt pulls out his phone and cues up the app, plinking in both his and Randy’s addresses. The arrival notification pings just as you make a pit-stop in the kitchen to get Randy to down a glass of water. He curses Randy’s drunk ass as you lead them outside, the car idling in the street. 

Randy doesn’t protest when you load him into the back seat first, happily munching on the to-go bag of tortilla chips you’d packed him.

“Well,” you say, fidgeting with the hem of your shirt as Matt lingers with the car door open. “Thanks for coming over...” You lean in and give him a quick peck on the cheek.

You shut the door and slap the roof of the car, smiling as it pulls away.

Matt kept mostly to himself at work. Only speaking to a select few people that he seemed to deem worthy of putting in the effort to interact with, he responded to most other people that approached him with an eye roll and as snarky a response as he could manage.

Thankfully, it seemed that I had been deemed one of the worthy. He'd been a little warmer toward me ever since the afternoon we spent an entire lunch hour debating whether including an actual dragon fight in a short campaign is really worth the effort. After a few days of pretending that I didn't exist, he started nodding at me in the hall. Once last week, I could have sworn that he smiled when I asked him how Greg was doing.

On Friday morning, Matt stood in front of the break room refrigerator. "Hey Matty?" I asked, a little more chipper than usual, even for me. "Can I get in there, or are you still looking for the hidden doorway to Narnia?"

There’s not much to smile about on Starkiller Base. It’s really not my fault most of my coworkers are total jerkfaces or idiots. 

What? Am I supposed to be Mr. Congeniality or some shit? Come on. I go to work, cranks some wrenches, gets shredded at the gym, then I get to go home to Greg, play some video games, and crank one off. Why overcomplicate things?

However, one coworker had caught my attention. A fair maiden. Dragon Girl. She was mouthing off some crazy shit about D&D in the lunchroom and she had totally bangin’ tits. Even asked about Greg. She seemed legit.

“Sup,” you laugh. “You know, if you really want your GoGurt, we could always just... go to the store and grab some?”

"Sure," I laughed again, "I'm due for a break, and I doubt anyone will miss us if we play hookey long enough to hit the convenience store down the street."

Matt eyed me for a moment, as if he were considering something.

"Awh, Come on! You know you want to." I taunted him, "I know they have GoGurt, and I want some good coffee."

We ducked out of work, and into the Friday morning bustle. Matt rambled for a bit about what he'd like to do if he ever figured out which "fucking fuck in that office keeps stealing my shit."

I couldn't help a soft chuckle at his frustration. He was always irritated about something, but it was fitting for him. Endearing, even. "I'm sure you can figure something out that won't lead to you losing your job, Matt. I'd hate to lose one of the four people at all of Starkiller that aren't completely insufferable."

"Four?" Mat scoffed. "That might be a bit of a stretch."

I smiled. "Well I guess my standards for 'tolerable' are a little lower than yours, Matty."

"And since when are you calling me Matty?" He asked, the bell on the doorway chiming as he opened it and waved me through in front of him.

Well, I thought before answering him. Matt Organa-Solo might even be something of a gentleman when he's not too busy scowling at everyone. "I think about the same time you started calling me Dragon Girl, but if you don't like it can stick to Matt."

Matty... he thinks to himself. That’s some cute-ass shit.

“Nah,” he says, catching a whiff of whatever sweet-scented shampoo you use as you walk past. “Matty works.”

“No backpacks inside,” the store attendant says to Matt.

“It’s not a backpack,” he snaps. “It’s a safety vest.”

“Leave it at the front.”

“Jerkface...” Matt mutters inaudibly.

You stifle a snicker as Matt removes his vest and sets it by the counter, growling under his breath. Spinning on his heel, he storms off toward the refrigerated section—you scurry after him.

Then he sees it: the object of his quest. GoGurt.

“Thank fuck,” he says, snatching a box. “You uh...” he starts, turning toward you, “... you want a Mountain Dew or something?”

“I was just going to grab a coffee,” you smile.

“Right, right. Coffee.”

Filling a cup on the way to the checkstand, you linger behind him as he sets the box of GoGurt down with a thunk.

“Gimme that,” he gestures toward your drink.

“No way,” you say.

“Yes way. Gimme that shit.”

Matt snatches it from your hands and pays for both of you.

“Well, thanks, Matty,” you say, surprised, watching as he slings on his safety vest.

“Yeah. Course,” he grunts, heading for the door. “Want a GoGurt?”

"Yeah, I'd love one" I accept the tube he'd held out to me, freeing up his hand to grab another. He ripped the top off with his teeth and slurped it down happily in a matter of seconds. I chuckled at him as I tried to open my own.

Matt noticed my struggle and grabbed the tube back from me. "Here. Let me." He grumbled, tearing it open with his teeth the same way he had before.

"Thanks, " I smiled, gesturing with the hand that held my coffee. Fingers not nearly able to meet around the side of the cup. "Small hands make it a little difficult to multi-task."

Matt smirked for a second, before his expression smoothed out again. "So you uh...doing anything fun this weekend?" He asked, getting to work on a second tube.

"Actually," I paused to take a gulp of the yogurt, humming contentedly. "God you're right Matty, I forgot how good this shit was--Anyway, I'm having some friends over for a big game night tomorrow. I was going to say you are welcome to join, if you're interested. It will be mostly classic board games I think. Risk, Clue, Cards."

We had stopped in front of the doors to Starkiller, it seemed like neither of us really wanted to go back in and finish out the day.

"A few other people from work will be there, so you'd have a couple more familiar faces. I think you even talk to one of them." I shot him a smirk, before quickly adding, "But I understand if that's not your thing, and it's sort of a last minute invitation. So no pressure, really."

He considers for a moment, face pinched. If he were a cat at an adoption center, he would have one of those signs that says ‘Does not play well with other cats.’ But Dragon Girl is mad cute, and he doesn’t remember the last time he left his apartment for ‘fun.’

“Uh... Yeah. Yeah, sure,” he says, scratching at his unruly blond hair. “Thanks.”

He wouldn’t mind playing some naked Twister with homegirl.

“Great!” you chirp. “Gimme your phone; I’ll put my number in it.”

“Word,” he says, handing over his phone. It’s protected with a Pokéball phone case.

You pull up a new contact entry and drop your digits, snapping a quick selfie to go with it.

At half past seven, he straightens his glasses and pounds on your front door.

“Matty!” you grin as you open it, taking in his broad frame. He wears black jeans and a dark grey First Order hoodie. “Shit, I didn’t know you owned anything besides the jumpsuit!”

He huffs out a laugh. “Not much.”

“Well, come in, come in! You’re the first one here.”

He tells himself he won’t get too competitive as he sees the stack of board games on your coffee table... but Matt’s never been particularly ‘chill’ when it comes to competition.

He cracks his knuckles. “So what are we playing first?”

It was strange, seeing Matt move around my apartment. To be honest, I was still a little shocked that he'd even agreed to come over, but glad all the same. It would be nice to get to know him and he could probably use the push to be a bit more social.

"Well" I bring a hand up to my face, fingers tapping along my jaw line while I consider the stack of games. "Since we're still waiting on everyone else, maybe something just the two of us can play for awhile? OH! How about UNO?"

"Alright, that could be fun," Matt turns toward me with a wicked smirk. "But I'm not going to take it easy on you, Dragon Girl."

I move closer defiantly, a smug smile pulling at the corners of my mouth. "Good. I wouldn't want you using that as an excuse when I beat your ass."

"Bring it on." Matt nearly snarls, refusing to back down. His face now closer to mine than it's ever been. Suddenly I was very aware of the fact that he towered over me, even hunched the way he was.

I've got to move, I thought, before I start blushing and he thinks he managed to get to in my head.

"Okay Matty, you're on. You set up the deck. I'm gonna grab a drink." I move away and disappear around the corner into the kitchen. Leaning back against a wall, I take a second to try to collect myself before calling out to him. "Want a beer?"

“Uhhhh... You got any Mountain Dew?” he hollers.

You purse your lips. “No,” you laugh back.

“Okay then beer’s fine.”

Smiling, you pluck two cold bottles from the fridge and return to the living room. His forehead creases deeply as he deals out the cards, expression serious.

“Here,” you say, setting down the beer. “So, Mountain Dew, huh?”

“Helps me focus,” he says, straightening the deck. “And it’s a good mixer for vodka.”

“Somehow... I don’t believe you,” you giggle.

“More for me,” he shrugs. “Alright, Dragon Girl. Let’s fuckin’ go.”

You meet his gaze. “Let’s fuckin’ go.”

You slam down card after card, inching closer and closer to the edge of your seat. Matt responds in turn.  

“Eat shit, Matt,” you grin, slapping down a ‘Draw 2.’

“I will END you,” he seethes, drawing from the pile and promptly playing a ‘Skip’ card.

He looms close over the coffee table as he makes his next move; you examine the dotting of freckles and moles on his face, noticing how plump his lips are.

A feeling of boldness rushes through you when you consider your play.

You toss your choice on the pile.

“Wild card,” you say, grabbing Matt by the hair and yanking him in for a kiss.

He’s shocked at first, mouth clumsy against yours—but when your tongue swipes against his lips, he opens deeply, devouring you as you devour him right back. His hands come to your face, squeezing at your cheeks roughly as his tongue works against yours.

And then your fucking doorbell rings.

The doorbell rings again, and Matt begins to reshuffle the deck. He looks up at me with another one of those grins that could stop someone's heart.

"You better go answer the door before I do. They definitely won't like what I'll have to say."

I laugh and ruffle his hair again as I walk past toward the door. He grumbles something in response but I can't quite make it out from the door.

"Hey guys!" I throw open the door and motion the group inside. "Sorry, we were just kicking things off with some UNO."

"That sounds like fun," One voice chimed over the small group as the fanned out through the apartment. He headed toward the kitchen. "Deal me in on the next hand Claire!"

"Randy?!"

"Matt?!"

The solo brothers look at each other, shocked, before turning back toward me. Simultaneously they begin bombarding me with questions, as the rest of our friends stand in silence.

"You're friends with my fucking brother?" Matt squints from where he now stands by the coffee table. "Wierdo"

"Yea, Matt. I thought you knew that--"

"Hey loser, that's my seat, and don't be mean to my friend." Randy snaps at him. "Claire, why would you invite my brother to game night?"

"Because she's my...uh, friend too....Jerkface." Matt snarls.

"Hey, are you assholes finished?" I quip at the both of them to break their focus. Then turning to the whole group I add. "Let's get back to the games, shall we? You all know where food and drinks are so have at it!"

Over the next few hours games were opened and set up on every available surface. Monopoly on the guest bed, Clue in the dining room. Matt continued to dominate the coffee table on UNO; having a few more beers and doling out threats along with laughs as he went. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, Randy and Matt finally settled into what I assumed was their typical brotherly behavior. After a few drinks I couldn't wipe the smile off my face every time I heard Matt's voice rise over the group.

It must have been close to midnight when I stood in the kitchen--munching on something in a failed attempt to keep the beer from catching up too quickly--when Matt saunders in looking for another drink.

"Hey, Dragon Girl." He smirks. "I was starting to wonder where you'd disappeared to."

"No way, Matty!" I giggle "You've been far too busy hustling everyone at UNO."

Nursing just enough of a buzz to give me some extra courage, I cross the sort distance to him with a cheeky grin and toy with the strings on his hoodie. "I bet you haven't thought about me, or my mouth, once since the party started."

Matt takes a step forward, backing you against the kitchen counter. 

Grabbing a handful of hair at the nape of your neck, he pulls your head back, tilting your face up toward his. Your lips part as your breathing grows sharp, pupils dilating to black orbs. 

“Not once,” he says, lower teeth bared, leaning in close. He nips at the swell of your lower lip, hips pressed against yours.

“Sup, losers,” Randy says, sidling into the kitchen in search of snacks. 

Matts nostrils flare and his eyes grow narrow as he releases his grip on you. He quickly sidesteps to the fridge and plucks out another beer, glaring at Randy as he turns around.

“Sup, little bro,” Matt glowers. 

“I’m fucking five minutes younger than you!” Randy huffs, hugging the bowl of tortilla chips tightly.

“Yeah, and it shows.”

“So whatcha two doing?” Randy asks, plucking a chip from the bowl and munching loudly.

You see Matt’s eye twitch. “Randy...”

“Drunk snacks!” you chime happily, eager to break the tension wondering if you should keep a squirt bottle on hand to break up fights. “How’s Clue going, Randy?” 

“Oh, shit, it’s probably my turn!”

“I bet it is,” Matt hisses.

“It’s not a backpack,” he snaps. “It’s a safety vest.”

“Leave it at the front.”

“Jerkface...” Matt mutters inaudibly.

You stifle a snicker as Matt removes his vest and sets it by the counter, growling under his breath. Spinning on his heel, he storms off toward the refrigerated section—you scurry after him.

Then he sees it: the object of his quest. GoGurt.

“Thank fuck,” he says, snatching a box. “You uh...” he starts, turning toward you, “... you want a Mountain Dew or something?”

“I was just going to grab a coffee,” you smile.

“Right, right. Coffee.”

Filling a cup on the way to the checkstand, you linger behind him as he sets the box of GoGurt down with a thunk.

“Gimme that,” he gestures toward your drink.

“No way,” you say.

“Yes way. Gimme that shit.”

Matt snatches it from your hands and pays for both of you.

“Well, thanks, Matty,” you say, surprised, watching as he slings on his safety vest.

“Yeah. Course,” he grunts, heading for the door. “Want a GoGurt?”

"Yeah, I'd love one" I accept the tube he'd held out to me, freeing up his hand to grab another. He ripped the top off with his teeth and slurped it down happily in a matter of seconds. I chuckled at him as I tried to open my own.

Matt noticed my struggle and grabbed the tube back from me. "Here. Let me." He grumbled, tearing it open with his teeth the same way he had before.

"Thanks, " I smiled, gesturing with the hand that held my coffee. Fingers not nearly able to meet around the side of the cup. "Small hands make it a little difficult to multi-task."

Matt smirked for a second, before his expression smoothed out again. "So you uh...doing anything fun this weekend?" He asked, getting to work on a second tube.

"Actually," I paused to take a gulp of the yogurt, humming contentedly. "God you're right Matty, I forgot how good this shit was--Anyway, I'm having some friends over for a big game night tomorrow. I was going to say you are welcome to join, if you're interested. It will be mostly classic board games I think. Risk, Clue, Cards."

We had stopped in front of the doors to Starkiller, it seemed like neither of us really wanted to go back in and finish out the day.

"A few other people from work will be there, so you'd have a couple more familiar faces. I think you even talk to one of them." I shot him a smirk, before quickly adding, "But I understand if that's not your thing, and it's sort of a last minute invitation. So no pressure, really."

He considers for a moment, face pinched. If he were a cat at an adoption center, he would have one of those signs that says ‘Does not play well with other cats.’ But Dragon Girl is mad cute, and he doesn’t remember the last time he left his apartment for ‘fun.’

“Uh... Yeah. Yeah, sure,” he says, scratching at his unruly blond hair. “Thanks.”

He wouldn’t mind playing some naked Twister with homegirl.

“Great!” you chirp. “Gimme your phone; I’ll put my number in it.”

“Word,” he says, handing over his phone. It’s protected with a Pokéball phone case.

You pull up a new contact entry and drop your digits, snapping a quick selfie to go with it.

“I’ll text you tomorrow, okay?” you chime.

At half past seven, he straightens his glasses and pounds on your front door.

“Matty!” you grin as you open it, taking in his broad frame. He wears black jeans and a dark grey First Order hoodie. “Shit, I didn’t know you owned anything besides the jumpsuit!”

He huffs out a laugh. “Not much.”

“Well, come in, come in! You’re the first one here.”

He tells himself he won’t get too competitive as he sees the stack of board games on your coffee table... but Matt’s never been particularly ‘chill’ when it comes to competition.

He cracks his knuckles. “So what are we playing first?”

It was strange, seeing Matt move around my apartment. To be honest, I was still a little shocked that he'd even agreed to come over, but glad all the same. It would be nice to get to know him and he could probably use the push to be a bit more social.

"Well" I bring a hand up to my face, fingers tapping along my jaw line while I consider the stack of games. "Since we're still waiting on everyone else, maybe something just the two of us can play for awhile? OH! How about UNO?"

"Alright, that could be fun," Matt turns toward me with a wicked smirk. "But I'm not going to take it easy on you, Dragon Girl."

I move closer defiantly, a smug smile pulling at the corners of my mouth. "Good. I wouldn't want you using that as an excuse when I beat your ass."

"Bring it on." Matt nearly snarls, refusing to back down. His face now closer to mine than it's ever been. Suddenly I was very aware of the fact that he towered over me, even hunched the way he was.

I've got to move, I thought, before I start blushing and he thinks he managed to get to in my head.

"Okay Matty, you're on. You set up the deck. I'm gonna grab a drink." I move away and disappear around the corner into the kitchen. Leaning back against a wall, I take a second to try to collect myself before calling out to him. "Want a beer?"

“Uhhhh... You got any Mountain Dew?” he hollers.

You purse your lips. “No,” you laugh back.

“Okay then beer’s fine.”

Smiling, you pluck two cold bottles from the fridge and return to the living room. His forehead creases deeply as he deals out the cards, expression serious.

“Here,” you say, setting down the beer. “So, Mountain Dew, huh?”

“Helps me focus,” he says, straightening the deck. “And it’s a good mixer for vodka.”

“Somehow... I don’t believe you,” you giggle.

“More for me,” he shrugs. “Alright, Dragon Girl. Let’s fuckin’ go.”

You meet his gaze. “Let’s fuckin’ go.”

You slam down card after card, inching closer and closer to the edge of your seat. Matt responds in turn.  

“Eat shit, Matt,” you grin, slapping down a ‘Draw 2.’

“I will END you,” he seethes, drawing from the pile and promptly playing a ‘Skip’ card.

He looms close over the coffee table as he makes his next move; you examine the dotting of freckles and moles on his face, noticing how plump his lips are.

A feeling of boldness rushes through you when you consider your play.

You toss your choice on the pile.

“Wild card,” you say, grabbing Matt by the hair and yanking him in for a kiss.

He’s shocked at first, mouth clumsy against yours—but when your tongue swipes against his lips, he opens deeply, devouring you as you devour him right back. His hands come to your face, squeezing at your cheeks roughly as his tongue works against yours.

And then your fucking doorbell rings.
