Goodbye, Beacon Hills. It’s been a pleasure.
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
Jackson knows that the time has come and that once Matt walks out of his place then he definitely will be on his way to meeting his husband out of town. “Tell Greenberg that he can call me whenever too…and if you want to hang out with me or Danny or both we could all do that sometime. You know…” He trails off for a moment before actually making eye contact with him. “I’m going to miss the two of you. Take care..” His eyes begins to mist again and it is only a matter of time before he cries.
Matt nods, feels his heart split in two, watches as Jackson makes eye contact, his eyes a bit wet but not crying. He should leave before they cry again. So he stepped forward, hugged Jackson tightly, and sighed. “I’ll call when I get to Portland,” he said, ruffling Jackson’s hair. “Take care of yourself. I will miss you more than I can say.” He took a step back, and then another. Finally, he raised a hand in farewell, smiled, and went to the front door.
Have a happy life Matt.
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
Matt standing up prompts the other to do the same thing. He reaches out to his buddy and pulls him in for another hug, one last one just for ole times’ sake. “I’m gonna miss seeing your dorky face around town…” His voice comes out surprisingly soft, as if trying to mask the fact that he is hurting on the inside. “I hope you two can stay safe. Text me if you ever need something or you want me to come by, okay?” He softly kisses the other’s head and ruffles it a little bit.
Matt wasn’t surprised by the hug, or the gentle affection in Jackson’s voice. They’d come a long way since Matt came back to this town, and although it would’ve been strange under normal circumstances, this wasn’t a normal circumstance. “I will,” he promised, smiling into Jackson’s shoulder before pulling back. “I’ll be sure to keep in touch.” And now it was that time, the time he knew had to come. He had to leave. But he didn’t want to.
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
The words Matt spoke surprised Paul enough to make him open his eyes again and shift his head so he could look up at Matt’s face. He couldn’t sense any hint of a lie in them, but that didn’t mean he fully believed at least the last sentence. There would probably be reasons Matt wouldn’t come back for him. He wouldn’t be leaving otherwise. However, it meant a lot to the alpha to hear him say all of that. So he nuzzled his cheek and then rested his head back under Matt’s chin, also closing his eyes. “You’re also one of mine… I love you…” He trailed off to leave it at that so he could sleep, and soon enough he did.
Matt looked back down at Paul, a bit confused. But hey, maybe he just hadn’t expected to hear that. After all, it seemed that Paul’s life didn’t always go the way he wanted it to, since he was afraid of people leaving him and he was so nervous about everything. So yeah, the things Matt said would mean something. He smiled and stroked Paul’s back as he dozed off. “I love you too,” he replied just before he, too, fell asleep.
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
Yeah, Paul didn’t even need his answer to know the guy was tired. He just slightly nodded as a response and closed his eyes, his left arm fully wrapped around Matt’s waist.
Matt tightened his grip around Paul and nuzzled into his head a bit more. “Then let’s sleep,” he said quietly, feeling his body start to relax, his mind trying to sleep. But he had to say this first. He had to get it out. “You are important. You are one of my best friends. And I will always come back for you.”
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
“Watch it on the ribs, don’t need to go hurting them.” He jokes around with him before withdrawing his hand from him. “Danny doesn’t seek out trouble like you and your husband. He’s great at avoiding danger, but I’ll try to keep a watchful eye over him.” The wolf’s smile receded back, knowing that this is going to be really painful. No more is he able to just show up at his door step about something else that has happened in their lives. Maybe this time a series of phone calls will replace the not-so-unwanted unannounced visits.
Matt nodded. Yeah, Danny never really got into trouble like he did. He could take care of himself. He didn’t want to leave, not right now, but staying any longer would make it hurt worse. Beacon Hills in general, and Jackson’s place specifically. So he got up, brushed himself off and took a deep breath. “I should go,” he said, voice thick with emotion. “I need to finish packing.”
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
Paul tried to think of other subjects to talk about, but really what was the point in talking about anything in particular? He knew it wouldn’t change anything, which depressed him a little. But everything Matt was doing made up for that to him. Though after a few minutes, he still gave up on coming up with something to discuss besides the inevitable. Maybe it was just time to nap now. “You tired?”
Matt was content, comfortable. He was okay with the fact that he was leaving because he was getting this, he was keeping Paul comfortable and happy even for this short amount of time. His eyelids started to get a bit heavy and he almost dozed off when Paul spoke. “Yeah, I am,” he said, kissing the side of Paul’s head. “Are you?”
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
“Oh right,” he whispers with a grin on his face. How could he forget that he’s Matt’s wife? Silly him for forgetting. The young wolf begins a with a little laugh that slowly grows. He looks into Matt’s eyes for the first time since hearing the news. His laughter quiets down again before a small smile takes its place. “You two are going to be alright. Keep Greenberg safe. I’m glad you stopped by, Matt.”
Matt looked back at Jackson, glad to see a smile, glad that he was laughing. Matt laughed along with him, feeling a lot of the pain subside as he realized that yeah, this wasn’t the end. This was the beginning of something new and Jackson would still be there for him whenever he wanted to drop by. “You keep Danny safe, you hear?” he said, elbowing Jackson playfully. “Don’t want to hear about anything happening to him.”
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
Jackson reaches out to grab Matt’s knee and grabs onto it. “You’re not leaving me behind. You’re just moving on to the next and new exciting part of your life. I’ll be there, just in different ways. Besides your other husband is already out of town. You’re not gonna just stay here and be apart from him for so long. From what I remember it doesn’t do either of you well.”
Matt was comforted by the physical contact, the touch. It grounded him, made him focus on something real, rather than the crushing pain of leaving. He chuckled and leaned into Jackson’s shoulder again. “You’re not my husband,” he said. “You’re my wife. Remember?”
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
“You know, that’s the great thing about having so much money. I can always travel anywhere. This isn’t the last time we’ll see each other, Matt.” Jackson sniffles a little bit as he fiddles with his fingers, trying his best not to make eye contact. He knows that if he so much as look at Matt then he knows that he will not be able to control himself from crying. These two have gone through so much since they first met in high school. If someone told him that he’d be this close to him now back when they first met, then he’d probably think that that person is crazy.Â
Matt smiled. Yeah, Jackson could come visit him. He wouldn’t have to come all the way down to Beacon Hills just to visit his best friend. Travel went both ways. “I’m glad of that,” he said, leaning back on the couch and staring up at the ceiling. “I still don’t want to leave you, though.”
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
Paul breathed calmly, just taking in the feeling of Matt’s touches while staring up at him, leaning into it when moved to his cheek. He only closed his eyes for the brief moment he was kissed on the forehead, but his smile hadn’t changed even when Matt got off because his hand was immediately held. He didn’t want to talk about the current subject anymore, so he instead just closed the gap between them, laying as he had been before.
Paul had remained silent and nuzzled up against Matt again, which gave him a clue as to what he wanted to do. So Matt shut up, hugged Paul close, let his thumb stroke the wolf’s hand. Tried to be as close as was physically possible in this situation. He would let Paul initiate the next round of speaking, because this wasn’t about Matt’s comfort. It was Paul’s.
The Last Goodbye || Matt & Jackson
Jackson hugs his best friend back and he unexpectedly gives Matthew a kiss on his cheek. “Look, Matt. I want you and Greenberg to be happy. Take the stupid check.” There is a calmness to his voice even though he knows that it will probably be a while before he sees his closest friend again. Sure they can communicate back and forth through texts and whatnot, but it sure won’t be the same again.
Matt was shocked by the kiss, as innocent and friendly as it was. He just never expected that kind of affection from Jackson. He had controlled this guy, seen him at his lowest, and vice versa. Matt had even hand-removed a bullet from Jackson’s back. But a kiss on the cheek...he hadn’t expected that. “Okay. Thanks.” He put the check in his pocket and sighed. “I don’t want to leave you.”
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
During the silence when they finally stopped kissing, Paul tried calming down so he could resist what he wanted to do. To give Matt what he had been wanting to do the times they have had sex. If things had only been different, he bottomed for him here and now. They’d just have to deal with the fact that it was not meant to be. What Matt had said the first time he spoke since before they kissed, Paul smiled softly. It almost made him tear up. “Y-you….. you’re not like the others that left me in a lot of ways.”
Matt held himself above Paul with one hand, using the other to stroke the wolf’s hair gently, brush his cheek, just touch him. Touch him because he wouldn’t be able to, in a short amount of time. “I hope I am,” he said softly, pressing a kiss to Paul’s forehead. “I really hope I am.” Eventually, regretfully, he rolled off, still laying close to Paul, grabbing his hand and holding it tight. “And I wish I didn’t have to leave you.”
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
Paul could tell Matt was bringing it right back to him, especially once they were flipped over. He couldn’t pull away much now, nor was he trying to with his arms wrapping right around his waist. He made sure this kiss lasted as long as it possibly could, leaving no room for regret of stopping when they eventually had to.
Matt didn’t want to stop, he wanted to keep going, to strip Paul down and show him that Matt wasn’t just good at bottoming, but he knew that was out of the question. Hell, kissing should be out of the question too, but he doubted Lysander would be mad about it. Still. He pulled back, and pressed another hard kiss to Paul’s lips before pulling back completely. There was a silence, one he wasn’t sure how to fill, and then some words popped into his head and out of his mouth. “You deserve the world, Paul. Don’t ever settle for less.”
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
Paul loved the hands on his face, feeling the care that Matt had for him. The guy seemed prepared for it. And this helped the alpha prepare for it too. For Matt’s marriage with Lysander, Paul’s own friendship with Nasir, and even to make the fact that Matt was leaving easier on them both, they had to stop after this one last time. And so, he leaned down and pressed his lips onto Matt’s, putting what he could into the kiss to make it truly special.
Matt was prepared for the kiss, he knew it was coming, but he wasn’t prepared for the intensity. Paul seemed to be putting his all into the kiss, and Matt could sense that, and he loved it. He kissed back, one of his hands gripping the back of the wolf’s neck to hold him there, putting as much passion as he could into it. After a moment, he rolled them over, hovering over Paul, their lips never parting.
I Hate Goodbyes || Matt & Paul
Paul was worried about what Matt’s answer would be. He waited and listened silently, and he didn’t know what to make of it by the end of it. Matt mostly just wanted to… That didn’t necessarily mean he had become attached to him in the way they both didn’t want to become. At the same time, it could. But either way, Matt was with Lysander and was gonna leave with Lysander. That’s all there was to it.
Still, it got him to really think about it. And after some time with nothing but silence from him, Paul moved over till his entire body was on top of Matt’s and he stared directly in his eyes. “You shouldn’t have…. for a lot of reasons.” He paused take take a deep breath before continuing. “With that being said… I want…the very last time we kiss… to be one we’re both ready for.”
Matt was shocked when Paul movd on top of him like that, straddling him almost, but it gave way to sadness. The last time. Of course it would be the last time, it had to be the last time, but that made it so official. He was leaving, and he wouldn’t get the chance to do this again. His hands slid up Paul’s side and then cupped his face. “Yeah. One we’re both ready for.” But he let Paul do it, he would let Paul initiate this. Put everything in Paul’s terms.
