I donāt usually reblog things like this, but this made me so incredibly angry.
For someone that keeps telling others toĀ āthink criticallyā, you sure keep talking extremely vaguely about studies you havenāt linked or put into context at all. Since you havenāt added any sources, Iāll do it for you.
Detransition rates for trans people trend extremely low, especially when nonsurgical transition methods are involved. Hereās a study (with a great sample size, mind you) that puts the rate of detransition at less than 1%. Hereās another with a less than 1% rate, that attributes sex reassignment with a loss of gender dysphoria and the ability to function wellĀ psychologically, socially and sexually. Although the already low amount of transitional regret is often associated with unsatisfactory surgical results, it is considered an exceedingly rare event, and the most common reason for detransition is lack of family support and resulting transphobia, which is not something to blame science orĀ ābig pharmaā for. Hereās an account by a trans woman named Kate Hutchinson, who detransitioned due to societal pressure and transitioned again later in life. Even with cases unlike hers, the regret rate has been falling over the years as surgical methods continue to advance, especially with MTF patients (1, 2, 3). As recent as 2018, even, is evidence of a detransition rate of 0.3%. There are also standards of care put in place to support safe and healthy transition and keep the regret rate low, which these cases you site may have been avoided had it been followed earlier.
You also keep mentioning trans people who wereĀ āruinedā by being put on blockers or transitioned too early, but puberty suppression, hormone therapy, and sex reassignment has positive effects on young adults that improves psychological functioning and alleviates gender dysphoria. Children that are supported through their social transitioning have no elevated symptoms of depression compared to non-transgender children. Hereās a book entirely about transgenderism and intersexuality in childhood and adolescence, including effects of sex reassignment, if youāre actually interested in reading it. You can also find many more actual statistics about suicide rates and the complex relationship between transitioning and suicide attempts in this report by the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention. Cornell University has also conducted one of the largest literature reviews regarding people that have transitioned and the effects on their mental health in the What We Know Project, which should provide plenty of light reading for you.
You can say you donāt hate trans people all you want, and maybe thatās true. But youāre doing plenty of harm to the people youāre supposedly so fearful for by spreading misinformation and yes, transphobia. If you have evidence, and fact, present them. Otherwise, youāre just as bad as theĀ āecho chambersā you claim to be against. Itās great that all you care about is getting a better aesthetic for your game (with human rights as an afterthought), because plenty of people (including children and adolescents) suffering from dysphoria that they canāt get treatment for (because of hot takes like yours) donāt have that luxury. I wonāt be sending youĀ ādeath or rape threatsā, by the way, though these are things trans people have to deal with every day, so you can lose your victim complex. And I canāt even describe how ridiculous the ābalancing making trans people feel comfortable and safe without throwing female and gay rights down the toiletā comment was. LGBT+ is a collective acronym for a reason, gay rights are trans rights, trans women are women, and we will never drop the T. Iām very glad this anon decided to send you this message, because I donāt want anything even resemblingĀ misleading TERF rhetoric (since youāre so adamant youāre not one) on my dash. Opinions and varying viewpoints are important, and healthy- blatant ignorance and misinformation is not.
