“chicken curry,” savannah repeated, “do you think i can coax the chef into making that tonight? better yet, why don’t you help me by dropping your parents’ name? surely that’ll get us some curry.” she lifted her eyebrows in suggestion. “and for the record– as long as you’re alive, there will always be something too sweet in this world.” she added before letting out a short laugh at his pun. “good thing you’re on board, otherwise my rule of ‘no tears in the kitchen’ wouldn’t go so well.”
“if by coax the chef you mean call my favorite takeout place and order excessive amounts of food then yes, of course” maverick commented with a shrug of his shoulders. “i mean dropping my name would get it for us for free but i don’t really see the point in that” he explained. with a small scoff he shook his head “for the record, you’re wrong and you can roll around in your wrongness all you want” maverick teased, sticking his tongue out at him. “of course there are tears in the kitchen” he defended with a determined face “you have to cut onions at some point”

she scoffed at his words, the very idea of her being a boss, being in control of anything humorous to the girl. they were on dead opposite sides of the social ladder, dead opposite sides of life. he lived in the penthouse suite, could have anything he wanted at the snap of his fingers; and she was at the bottom. a maid who didn’t have a cent to her name, who’d have to work her whole life to get even a fraction as far as his birth had gotten him. “c’mon,” she murmured, blue hues watching as the worker he’d called for — someone at her very own status — hurried off with his bags. “we have to get these up to the seventh floor. you don’t mind a few stairs, right?” her lips lifted into a half smirk that she flashed his way briefly before passing the elevator and heading towards the stairs, beginning her ascent of the steps. she’d grown used to climbing them, preferring them to the elevator; they gave her job some sense of purpose, of accomplishment, even it was only in keeping up her shape. “so, you were out shopping?”
"the seventh floor, got it ma’m” he repeated, using his free hand to salute the smaller girl beside her before following her towards the stairs. mentally groaning at the thought of climbing all those stairs, he avoided showing any distaste for it in front of her, knowing that this was something she would be doing repeatedly and had been for as long as she had worked there. “yeah, i went out to buy some groceries today, i was thinking of looking up a new recipe to try today but i’m not sure” he noted, walking up the stairs beside her “usually when i try recipes out it ends up horribly wrong and i have to order take out” maverick admitted with a bashful smile and a slightly embarrassed giggle. “like, i’m sure that’s never happened to you, everyone but me seems to be able to follow those pintrest post to a tee” he offered, biting her inner lip sightly. “so um... you’ve been working here for like a couple of weeks now right? i’m a weirdo and notice things like that, you know yeah” maverick expressed, his socially anxiety becoming ever so evident.
if i’m not mistaken, i could see that you’re flirting with me? listen, i’m taken. my girlfriend, beautiful and curvy and delicious girl – she wouldn’t be okay with this you know? as a matter of fact, she’s waiting in my fridge for me to devour later. those shows are so boring, come on – anything else?

does anyone really win a war? like i get it someone has to win in the end but that doesn’t mean we can’t validate other people along the way. i think there’s a line between constructive criticism and embarrassment. plus maybe constructive criticism isn’t the best for everyone...

i need my eyes to be able to appreciate your beautiful existence. honestly, anything with baking. i enjoy baking wars, cupcake wars, the seasonal shows they have. you’ll have to come to find out.
his reactions were almost painful. the way he stuttered, the way he was never quite sure of himself, always faltering around her — it was all hard to watch. and it all cut through the harsh exterior she tried to put forth and cut her in the few soft places she had left, the few places left a wolf could sink its teeth into. and though she knew maverick was no wolf, she still couldn’t trust him, couldn’t trust him or his money. a sigh escaped her lips at his words, and she knew she couldn’t tell him off, couldn’t deny his help. not if she wanted to keep her career. “fine,” she spat, lips pulled into a thin line, “you can help me with this. but only with getting the supplies up the stairs. i can do the rest by myself.” finally blue hues lifted to meet his darker ones, and she nodded to his bags still on the floor. “do you want me to grab those, then? surely you can’t just leave ‘em here.”
the way he accepted his help, he knew that she was just doing it because it was him. not even him in the sense that he was maverick, an individual separate from the money he was surrounded by but him the sponsor’s child. the person in the penthouse room. the person that couldn’t be denied. the part of him he resented. “that’s fine... as long as i get to do something” maverick chirped as he followed her towards the stairs in silence. looking down at his bags again, he bit his lip in nervousness as he shook his head “no, no, i’ll um have someone take them up” he noted, only further falling into the trope she had created for him. looking around, he shyly flagged down one of the nearest employees and asked softly. “sir, would you mind taking these up to my room... if it’s not any trouble, of course... it’s um the top floor. but if not i understand..” he mumbled to the man who complied without much of any question. before he could leave, mav patted for his wallet and offered the man a fifty dollar bill “thank you so much” he murmured before turning to the girl he was helping. “where to, boss?” he asked comically.
if it’s possible, then shit! let me know! if you’re too kind and loving, then you’re taken advantage of because it’s seen as a weakness. if you’re too mean and aggressive, you’re dangerous and reckless. if you’re in between, then you can be see as two sided or contradicting. it’s rough, it’s never a win win situation. the person tried, maybe, but eating bullshit cookies for that reason only? yikes, mav. and oatmeal raisin cookies are considered comforting to you? oatmeal i get, but raisin? you’re kidding! i don’t know why those store bought cookies were in the kitchen, but if anything it could’ve been used as an aesthetic prop or a test to see if people would actually use them. lofthouse cookies is such a nice lifestyle, like, man. professional cookies don’t even beat lofthouse cookies.
you can never be too kind or loving, it’s just people have become so unaccustomed to it that they see it as threatening or as a bad thing. i don’t know i think there’s a way to balance ambition without stepping on others. well i’m not going to reject the cookies to their face, what kind of monster would do that. probably the same kind that hurt puppies. the raisins are underappreciated, they get a bad wrap when they’re really not that bad. also the only way i get to eat my oatmeal cookies is if i smile through the raisins. maybe it was a test... but i thought they were used well. it was a cute idea. lofthouse cookies are my existance if i don’t have a pack in my room i’m not really sure what to do with life.
