only took ten years but nathan finally followed all the pythons back.
uhvivicn:
the girl had been known to be high-maintenance and she definitely lived up to the name. vivian was in the middle of her extensive night-time routine when she experienced what she would define as a rude interruption, “ack!” she exclaimed, jumping and accidentally poking herself in the eye, “god-. come in, come in. could give a girl a warning while she’s putting in her eye cream!” however, when she matched the face to the voice, she couldn’t help but go into survival mode, an awkward laugh passing by her lips, “but yeah, it’s for sensitive teeth though so if you have hard teeth i’d use a ton of it. or just take the whole tube, either or works. yeah, just take the whole thing.” nathan and her had always had little to do with each other, aside from the random conversations when one or the other was feeling particularly melancholy. the boy who was her late night talks and early morning solace had somehow transitioned into her awkward pal.
“sorry-- i thought athena or nina would be around,” nathan apologized as he stepped into the bedroom only to find vivian busy with her routine. “i only need a little,” he mumbled as he inspected the tube. “and besides, i have sensitive teeth too so it actually works out great.” nathan gave her a small smile- the kind that’s usually reserved for interactions with strangers. is that what they had become now? no, strangers didn’t know each other like nathan and vivian did. but it was hard to dismiss the awkwardness between their every interaction. “when did your routine become so complex?” he gestured to the products that she was currently using and leaned his shoulder against the wall. nathan couldn’t pretend he knew what she was into nowadays.
ofnina:
“ borrow and steal are very different things. you’re a graduate now, nathan. you should know your vocab. “ she teased, tilting her head downward as she gave the boy a small shake of her head. her fingers instinctively went to her face, her toothpaste still in hand as she felt the material smeared across her face that was now in question. “ it’s a face mask. have you never done a face mask ? you have to do one. i have a bunch of them. “ she was talking quickly now, taken aback by the other’s inexperience. she would’ve leaned over to grab him one had he not extended his toothbrush, nina’s brows sinking as she glanced over at his challenging stance. “ i’m not letting it go without a fight, so let’s see what you got. “ she returned, tightening her grip as nathan’s toothbrush collided with her own. she retaliated, lunging forward to hit his toothbrush before retreating further into the bathoom and standing guard by the shower.
“what up, i’m nathan, i’m 23 and i never learned how to fucking vocab,” nathan gave her a shrug of his shoulders in response. “can you lend me your toothpaste? may i use it? would you be so kind?” he tried, hoping one of his phrases would be successful. “i know what a face mask is..” nathan huffed, but his furrowed brows and confused expression said otherwise. “-- wait so you’ll give me one of your face masks but you won’t let me have a drop of your toothpaste?” he scoffed in offence and at her logic. “don’t you know? i’m skilled with a sword.” years of pirate practise as a kid made sure of it: nathan was born for this moment. he pressed on, keeping an iron grip on his toothbrush as he followed her steps further into the bathroom. “surrender now or face defeat,” nathan spoke words that echoed his childhood playdates.
ofnina:
damp fingertips gently smoothed the edges of her dog-themed face mask against her skin, her complexion seemingly golden and furry as she transformed into a moisturized golden retriever. the sudden disruption to her self-care routine was far from welcomed, but the awkward desperation oozing from nathan was enough to entertain the girl for a moment. her still-damp hands were quick to latch onto both her toothpaste and her toothbrush, one fit into each palm. she protectively hugged her toothpaste close to her chest, her hand with her toothbrush extended into the space between them, as if to act as a barrier between the two. “ steal ? you’ve got some nerve, nathan. trying to steal my toothpaste ? right in front of me ? “ she teased, employing all of her self-control in order to retain a serious expression.
“borrow. i’m trying to borrow your toothpaste. steal with the purpose of returning, you know?” nathan explained as he wandered into the room further, straining his eyes as he took in nina’s complexion that was covered in.. god knows what. “what the fuck is on your face?” he asked, in both horror and admiration. nathan glanced down at her outstretched hand holding her toothbrush as if it were some type of sword that could protect her. “are you challenging me to a duel?” nathan raised his own toothbrush and tried to smack hers out of her hand. “i’m a simple man. i just need a little bit of toothpaste, and if i have to fight you for it then so be it.”
abbottisms:
“easy, yeah,” camden nearly scoffed, “that’s all it’s been.” he was transparent, always had been, and he knew now was no exception. he only hoped that both of them could continue to believe it. “friends ?” he nearly choked on the word, faltering as he repeated it back to nathan. they’d been friends before of course, both before they’d dated and during, but it seemed foreign to them now. the thought of beings friends with nathan bewildered camden now, a stark contrast from lovers and now exes. “you know, i um,” i lied, i’m sorry, i take it back, “i have one of your hoodies still. you gave it to me when we were together, i don’t know if you’d remember or not,” he trailed off once more, “i sleep in it sometimes because it’s comfortable, you know, but i should probably give it back, huh ? i mean, it makes more sense that you would have it now. friends don’t really share hoodies.” camden accepted the eggs, but his appetite was now nonexistent, lost somewhere in their conflict. gently, he set the plate on the counter beside him, unable to feign hunger. “i’ll tell her you said hi.”
“yeah, friends,” nathan repeated once again though the word still tasted sour in his mouth a second time around. “it’s possible, isn’t it? i mean, that’s what we should aim for anyways.. right?” he dared a glance at the other boy, wondering if drawing this line felt as weird for him as it did for nathan. he recalled having given camden one of his hoodies, in fact he’s given numerous sweatshirts away over the time they were dating and he frowned at the idea of camden giving them back. more than that, the thought of cam still sleeping in one of his hoodies tugged at his chest. “no, keep it. i gave it to you,” he affirmed. “friends share clothes all the time. hell, if you wanted to borrow something of mine right now by all means.” nathan looked at the plate camden had placed down and felt the underlying tension he was trying to hard to shove under the rug. nathan set his own meal down on the kitchen island and locked eyes with him. “look.. i’m trying, camden. trying to.. just be. isn’t that enough for now?”
— having taken a hot and much needed shower, nathan was looking forward to settling down for the night. no crazy neighbourhood feuds or wild nights in a bar for tonight. the only unforeseen casualty was that of his toothpaste. nathan treaded over to the nearest bedroom and knocked on the open door. “hey.. i can’t find any toothpaste in the bathroom and mine just ran out so could i steal yours?” he held up his toothbrush awkwardly, hoping his fellow housemate would spare him some pity.
abbottisms:
“i don’t hate either of you,” he admitted quickly, eager to forget the poisonous statement he’d uttered to graham with such malice. camden didn’t — couldn’t — hate either of them, no matter how hard he tried. “i guess,” he began, faltering over the statement threatening to spill from his lips, “i guess you’re just easier to forget.” and then it was out, floating in the air between them like a ricocheting bullet. that’s a lie, he wanted to say, you’re all i can ever remember. but instead, he refrained, leveling his gaze with nathan’s as he tried to muster some semblance of courage to deliver another blow. “my mom asks about him constantly, she still thinks we’re the best of buds, actually,” she asks about you too, “but you ? god, she knows we’re over with, everyone does. it’s a lot easier to get over you when everyone else already has.” his gaze did drop in that moment, suddenly breathless, consumed by his dishonesty and his misplaced anger.
“oh,” nathan replied stupidly. what should have he expected? he asked for an answer and camden had given him one. “fair enough,” he recovered with a quick smile that didn’t meet his eyes. his lips twitched at the mention of camden’s mom, a woman he had grown to love, and nodded slowly as he registered his words. this was what he wanted to hear, right? that camden had moved on. isn’t that what he was hoping for? then why did it hurt so bad? “i’m glad it’s been easy for you,” nathan turned off the pan as the eggs had finished cooking. “maybe now we can work towards being.. you know, friends or something,” he didn’t know what kind of bullshit was spewing out of his mouth but he was trying to act as casual and normal as possible when discussing the state of their relationship. he grabbed two plates, even though his appetite had completely vanished and scooped a serving onto each. “here you go,” he offered a plate to camden without lifting his gaze from the eggs. “you don’t have to tell your mom your ex-boyfriend cooked for you but i do hope you pass on that i send her my best. or maybe if you think that’s a bad idea, don’t mention me, just make sure you’re calling her often.”

“oh,” it was the only word camden could utter, nathan’s reply seemingly knocking the wind out of him. the previous night played before his eyes much like a movie — every kiss, every laugh, every touch all coming to fruition as he stared at the oblivious boy before him. camden cleared his throat, eyes rising to hesitantly meet nathan’s, “oh, you know how we get,” he murmured, mustering every ounce of nonchalance he could, “we’re always bickering, it was about time one of us lashed out.” his eyes fell to rest on the counter, unable to meet nathan’s gaze as he continued to lie. he’d never been the best with dishonesty, especially when the person being lied to could read camden like an open book. “and uh, as for filling in the blanks,” he paused, briefly considering spilling everything, but thought better, instead continuing with, “we didn’t really cross paths, so i’m not much help. sorry.”
“bickering?” nathan turned his body towards camden with a skeptical expression. “he said he’s never seen you so angry.” he scanned cam’s face briefly. “i know he said some shitty things but you didn’t have to get violent with him. especially.. especially when he’s not the source of your anger.” he took a deep breath, trying to think about what he was saying. “if there’s anyone to be angry with it’s me,” nathan’s eyes flicked up to meet camden’s. “why aren’t you angry with me?” the question he often asked in his head. why did cam still stand to look at him? why did cam let nathan kiss him after everything he put him through? he had never understood camden’s quality of forgiveness. “you can’t hate graham and not hate me. so what is it? why can’t you just hate me instead?”
teagcn:
teagan shrugged at his claim. she knew he was right and teagan would definitely do the same to him without question, but she wasn’t gonna give him the satisfaction of being right. “the guys love me there and you know it. i’m entertaining and i’m hot, i’m practically a gift to them whenever we’re back there.” she flipped her hair. “full of shit? i don’t think so, nathey. i went poop this morning and i’m pretty sure i’m shit free right now.” teagan responded back childishly, sticking her tongue out at him. as teagan threw it, she was disappointed to see that he didn’t flinch. she knew nathan enough to know that he was fearless, but she didn’t realize how hardcore he was until she threw a knife without making the boy flinch. keeping her head up high, teagan stepped up to the board and lined up with where she was supposed to stand. “remember, the point of the game is to hit as close as possible without actually hitting me.” teagan reminded. “but, feel free to fuck up so you can get your dream tattoo.”
“i think the only reason they tolerate you is ‘cause they’re scared of you,” nathan rolled his eyes. “what kind of maniac makes weekly visits to the police station simply out of boredom?” the kind that lives in the villa. the kind named teagan and nathan. they were clearly a different breed. “hilarious,” he deadpanned at her childish response. nathan turned the knife over in his fingers as he switched roles with teagan. once she was lined up with the board, he narrowed one eye as he attempted to aim for the closest spot that wouldn’t actually hit her. with a quick flick of his wrist, the knife sailed through the air and landed just an inch away from teagan’s head. he was about to celebrate when he noticed the piece of hair that had fallen at her feet. nathan’s eyes widened at the realization that he had chopped off some of her hair. “oh fu....” he started as he became the visibly sweating meme, “hey, uh, remember how you’ve been wanting a haircut for a while now? i think short hair would totally suit you.”

camden nodded slowly, eyeing nathan as he neared him. he sucked in a sharp breath, holding it as the boy he’d once shared a life with came into close proximity. his eyes never left nathan’s, though his self-control seemed to waiver as the boy’s arm slipped behind him. it seemed to be a game of cat and mouse, of seeing who could break who first. camden wasn’t sure if he could win, not anymore. he cleared his throat suddenly, expelling the breath he’d been holding as nathan retreated to the stove. the question wasn’t one camden had been expecting — the pair tended to tiptoe around the root of their actual problems, much more inclined to make passive aggressive jabs or avoid them all together. this was new territory, honest territory, and it left the boy feeling vulnerable. “i do,” he answered solemnly, “i remember everything.”
nathan focused on seasoning the eggs and his eyes never left the pan even when his heart took a plunge at camden’s answer. the way he said everything made nathan’s mind run through the stages of the night, recalling every step that led him to end up in camden’s bed. how easy it was to let camden take him home. he thought about how easy it would be to admit he had enjoyed last night but that went against everything nathan’s been trying to do this whole trip. to distance himself from camden, to let him move on and lead a better life without him. and maybe the thought of them both admitting the night happened scared nathan and he retreated to one of his fucked up defence mechanisms. “really?” he asked as he stirred the eggs, “’cause my mind’s a bit fuzzy. the only thing i remember is lighting up some centrepieces with teagan. maybe you could fill in the blanks --” nathan spewed out his lies as he looked over at camden. “starting with why you punched graham.”
athcnvs:
Athena had been walking along the side of the beach for the majority of the afternoon, people-watching as she made quick progress in consuming her vanilla fudge drumstick. Popping the last piece into her mouth — the chocolate-filled end being her favorite part of the entire treat — she noticed a familiar figure nearby throwing an unidentifiable object into the sand, so of course, she had to investigate. Hello Stranger by Barbara Lewis is a really good song, she thought to herself after being greeted by the boy, not necessarily inclined to share the random opinion out loud. “It’s nice to see that my gift is being put to good use,” she commented, grinning. It was no surprise to the girl that it suited him well. Athena rocked back and forth on her feet while she stared at his setup for a moment. “So, uh, whatcha up to?”
“just thinking,” nathan replied casually, glancing over his shoulder at the poor set-up he had behind him. somehow knife throwing was therapeutic for the boy. maybe it had something to do with control. or maybe it was just a bad habit that was too hard to break. nathan turned back to survey athena. “taking a break from the house?” he cracked a small, knowing smile. “it’s like a warzone in there. and not because teagan and i are pranking each other. kind of weird to watch the mess from the sidelines for once,” he shook his head. nathan had a lot of issues with a lot of the pythons but this time he wasn’t in the middle of things and thought it’d be best not to intervene. “at least you’re not fighting with anyone, are you?” he raised a brow in question as he played with the switchblade in his hands.
teagan: help i need advice
teagan: what if someone did something and i know the person did something but i never said something because if i said something then the person who did the something would be upset because the person who did something did something involving another person who did something and THAT person doesnt know that the other person knows that they did something but the something the person did actually caused this person to do the something they did
teagan: do u get my dilemma
nathan: mm, sounds like a you problem.
nathan: and anyways even if i do get your dilemma, do you really think i'd give away advice for free?
