Exploring modulo on position and scale.
Consider this picture the sprouting seed of what will become the performance setup for my new project, Artemis Beats & the Audio Collective.
Since I’m pretty much crippled these days, the setup needs to be fairly portable, so right now I’m thinking that I’ll adapt a keyboard or bass-guitar flight case into something akin to a DJ coffin. If everything goes to plan, the case will need to be able to contain two computers, a Monome, Hercules DJ controller, Behringer mixer, Akai MPK mini, NI Maschine, and maybe even some kind of compact projector.
This evening I started programming the Max MSP patch which will be the main sound-source for live performances, which would sit somewhere along a spectrum between DJ/VJing and controllerism. I want to be able to both play back relatively complete tracks, and also trigger phrases and individual samples to build tracks on the fly.
By using two computers and a variety of different hardware controllers, I’ll be able to trigger and mix audio and video contiguously, and I’m hoping that the people who choose to get involved with the project will continue to submit content, and further down the line there could even be performances during which content could be submitted ‘live’ by Audio Collective members and sampled straight into the set.
I think exciting times are ahead!

Off to a decent start this week.
Glitch art refers to the use of audio signals and audio effecrts to modify images. The Cycling74 BEAP modular synthesizer system is particularly suited to glitching. This article provides a prototype for the first glitch modular system in Max.
We are very excited today to announce our industry partnership with Kadenze, an arts & creative technology-focused MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) platform. Kadenze will be offering the course Programming MAX: Structuring Interactive Software for Digital Arts by Dr. Matt Wright, featuring a guest appearance by our very own David Zicarelli. Matt has an extensive background in the media arts as a system designer, composer/musician and computer music researcher and educator.
Looking forward to this course.
