“science museums are better.” mariah stated, giving max a playful shove. she scurried to catch up with him and slipped past the door, grabbing onto his arm. “wait for me, i’ve got short legs.” the girl mumbled, still clutching the boys upper arm.

he rolled his eyes jokingly and turned around slightly as she grabbed onto him. “science museums are more expensive, and i’m a broke college student.” max then leaned in slightly in mockery of her height comment, he spoke quietly as they were already heading towards the first exhibit. he walked at a leisurely pace, and then furrowing his eyebrows slightly whilst smiling in curiosity. “you’ve never told me about your major, now that i think about it.”

“I wouldn’t say I’m not fond of them- just..” She shrugged, trailing off with a shrug. “Okay, if you’re sure I’ll like it.” She followed him, still unsure of this whole thing.

“Just what?” He spoke softly with slight curiosity as he guided her through the entrance. “I mean, honestly I come for the atmosphere. It’s quiet, peaceful, and there’s just something about the feeling of a museum. Can’t really describe it.”

“Um, I never said…” Ana was perplexed at this boy’s insistence upon dragging her off for a tour of a museum, but couldn’t muster up the backbone to properly refuse him.  She’d not even professed a dislike for art museums, only mentioned that she hadn’t had the chance to frequent many of them.  But now here she was, being led through the heavy doors and into a sea of chattering patrons.

“I’ll buy you lunch if you stick through.” He smiled slightly with the bribe, guiding her through and heading towards the first exhibit. Paintings surrounded them, pace had slowed, and the air alone had already turned to a still. “It’s really nice when nobody’s here.” He wasn’t sure if he murmured to himself or to Ana, but he only felt so much more at peace. Max simply went on to walk slowly through the paintings, finding things he missed before or things he’s always admired. “Thank you, Ana. For coming along,” He spoke softly. “— though I practically dragged you here.”

“Will you stand still —” He couldn’t refrain from laughing, he set the camera down and looked at the last take. “— oh wow, that’s a seller.” Max gave Mariah a big smile and laughed while looking at the camera once again.

Mariah laughed and nodded, “It is a little weird – you can’t taste the wine as well. Drinking straight from the bottle is best reserved for hard liquor.” She smiled warmly and put her arms around the boys neck. The girl kissed the top of his head, nodding. “Of course, love.”

Holding her warmly, he had his arms around her waist and his hands playing with the ends of her hair. “I’m afraid I tend to get a little sleepy when I drink — ” He smiled and put his hands under her thighs, lifting her up and then standing whilst softly throwing her onto the bed. He hovered over her, smiling. “— very, very sleepy.” He then turned sideways and propped himself on the pillow beside Mariah’s. “I’ve never really been quite good at drinking, I handle well enough but all I end up doing is sleeping.”

“ you’re not quite fond of art museums, are you? i reckon you’ll like this one. i’ve gone here loads of times, and it’s absolutely amazing i’ll walk you through it from beginning to end. and watch the door, it’s a bit heavy — ”

The girl giggled nervously as Max polished off what was left in her glass and she raised an eyebrow questioningly. “You know you’re drinking more than me…” Mariah paused for moment, leaning down close to his ear, “…and I think that’s a bit unfair.” She bit her lower lip and took the bottle in one hand, swiftly taking a few gulps from it. She smirked and set it down on her bedside table, placing her hand on Max’s hip. “Better.”

He furrowed his eyebrows in slight confusion, watching her grab the bottle and go for a blow. “What an odd concept on drinking.” He muttered. Max admitted slightly to himself, he was a bit nervous. If this moment goes any further, well, there’s no saying anyone would know what would happen. Regardless, he smiled softly and kissed the nape of her neck, taking in Mariah as she was, and hopefully as she will be for long enough. He chuckled into her neck, whispering low. “Mind if I tell you something?”

“ Don’t judge. Dieting is incredibly hard and I don’t even now how people survive without meat. It taste so damn good. I can’t dare give it up completely. “ She explained as she started to follow his new found English friend.

As the arrived, she smiled when the kind gentleman took her seat out for her, she smiled as she sat down. “ Do we? I guess we do since we’re different. Huh. I never really thought of that that way. “ She pursed her lips at the though and took the menu out of the waitress’ hands as she offered it to them. “ Since it’s your treat, you get to pick. Don’t be afraid to go all American on this one. “ She handed it back to Max with a smile, thought it was unlikely for her to let other people decide what she usually eats.

He shook his head in disbelief. “Quite frankly, I think it’s like a tiger giving up a slab of meat for dinner. There has to be something wrong, either that or they’re far too sensitive. But, as you said, I mustn’t judge.” He shrugged and smiled. 

Upon meeting their waitress and heading to the table, Max found himself doing his typical manner by pulling out her chair. From past experiences, girls have taken that the wrong way. It was simply the life of a boy under a posh mother, but who would mind that?

“I mean,” He headed to his own seat, setting his backpack between his legs. “If you think about it, you’re the one with the accent if you’re in another country. And each country has accents of their own.” He shrugged. “Generalizations just keep it alive, something or the other at least.”

He was comfortable, the old Irish styled pub in the middle of South Carolina, it was strange but what else did he have left to live on? Further than that, Sam had given him the menu and he took it. Graciously. The waitress had barely left and he hadn’t opened the menu, already set to order.

“Just one pot of the beef stew, no sides.” He looked over at Sam. “As far as drinks uh - I’ll have water with lemon, and Sam?”

Mariah was sure that her cheeks turned at least 3 different shades of red at Max’s comment, and she shook her head to stop herself from nervous giggling. She got up from her place on the bed and received a bottle of red wine before pouring it into their glasses. The brunette sat herself on the boys knee, placing her legs between his as she held out his glass to him. She smiled shyly and took a long sip of the liquid, letting it warm her throat.

He smiled and watched her every move, patiently waiting for her. Though instead of taking his drink, he set his glass down and waited for her to take the glass from her lips. He tilted her hand towards himself and drank from her glass, finishing off what she had left in but two gulps. Max’s arm was taught around her waist and his eyes set on nothing else but her. 

Wanting to say something, but not being able to really articulate was becoming an issue. Max wanted to act, he wanted to show rather than tell. But all he could do was look into her eyes, the light brown that shimmers when the light hits it just right.

The hockey season is over..

What am I supposed to do with myself now? I feel like I have way too much free time on my hands, and way too much energy.

There’s tons of clubs, if anything I suppose you could head into a new sport! There’s a few, but since you’re into hockey I think you’d be fairly happy with lacrosse. Have you tried it yet?

Mariah lay her head down on Max’s chest, letting out a content sigh, continuing to trace shapes with her fingers. “Well I’m glad you did, love.” She smiled and lifted her head to look him in the eye. “More champagne – or wine? I have it all.” She smiled, letting dimples appear clearly on both cheeks.

He sat up and let her cradle his lap, his nose so close to hers and his eyes looking earnestly at the smile he’s fallen for. “Quite frankly, I’d take you over both but — ” He grinned and nodded towards his glass. “— since you’re asking, wine will do.”

She shook her head gently “ Of course not. It’s not the end of the month yet. I’m only a vegetarian for a week. “ She smiles, feeling a sense of pride for such little accomplishment. As the name of the restaurant popped out her phone, she smiled, pleased at what she saw. “ Great. Let’s go. They’ve got great menu and a least one celebrity has been in here so I’m good. “

As they both waited, she tapped her fingers at her side as she tries to busy herself. “ And if I go to England and even just bring an English coat preferably Armani, they’d be astounded-er. “ Giggling as rolled her eyes playfully. “ I dont know where Americans get there perception but it looks to me like they think England makes everything better. I have a feeling its because of the accent. Harry Potter have corrupted our minds.”

“For a week? That’s an interesting habit.” He smirked and let her go about her business, nodding and leading the way towards the restaurant that her high expectations weren’t quite noted in his train of thought. 

Upon heading into the restaurant, they stood until a waitress was to seat them. He chuckled at her comments and then replied to her last. “You’re the ones with the accents, quite frankly.” He smiled. “Harry Potter is probably the least bit of your problems in America, that’s for sure.”

Mariah giggled as a blush crept across her cheeks, “Must you be so cute?" She interlocked her fingers with his, and lifted her body up to look at him. The brunette leaned down and gave him a gentle kiss, tracing shapes on his chest with her fingertip.

He smiled at the way she looked down on him, his lips automatically reacting to her kiss. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a damn long time.” Chills went down Max’s spine as her touch was more than surprising, but rather exciting. He leaned up once more and deepened his kiss, holding her warmly without denial.

The brunette scrunched up her nose at the nickname and shook her head with a giggle. She looked down and tossed her ponytail over her shoulder, gazing into his eyes. She smiled into the kiss and almost wished that he had lingered a bit longer. “Looks like I got my New Years wish.” She teased and rested her forehead against his.

He looked at her fondly, the ends of her hair ticking his hands again. With laughter he let one hand reach up to cup her face, he softly placed his nose by hers. “Happy New Year’s, love.” Max leaned back and pulled Mariah back with him, laughing with her slightly as their gaze softened softly into a warm stare. He kissed her again, keeping her in his embrace.

Mariah smirked as she felt herself being tugged closer, wrapping her arms around Max’s neck. She felt butterflies erupt in her stomach and a smile tugged at her lips. A faint blush speckled itself across her cheeks as she spoke softly, “Prove it.” The clock on the other side of the room ticked away, coming down to the last minutes before the New Year.

He linked his hands behind her lower waist, pulling her in completely when she spoke. “Easily, Your Majesty.” He smiled in return, seeing her this close was hypnotizing. He couldn’t bother to give away this opportunity, every second turned slow. Losing his sanity in her eyes, he tilted his head up and kissed her softly. He pulled away quietly for an instant, as though to see her reaction to his impulsive act.

Mariah sipped the liquid that had filled her glass as she picked up the frame and smiled. “Yeah, we’re really close. Have you got any siblings?” She set the picture down gently on her bedside table and polished off what was left of the drink.

The girl turned around, slowly moving towards the boy so that she was standing in front of him. She just stood there, maybe it was the wine or maybe it was the atmosphere but something felt fuzzy – way deep down.

He was playing with the glass at this point, letting the tip of his finger trace the rim. With a nod, he sighed and looked up in slight surprise. “Yeah.” Max set the glass on the bedside, thinking nothing more of what he was about to do.

“That doesn’t really matter, though.” He spoke in a low whisper, softly tugging at her fingers and pulling her in. With a smile, he murmured slowly as he pulled her in closer. “After all, I am the better twin.”
