What major changes do you see? 

Not much in particular. The most striking would be, that while Max had had the will to change at the start, he seems to have lost this, too. 

Did you role go through development? If yes, was it good or bad? If no, why? 

There is not much development that Max went through. Max stubbornly refused change, stood his ground and refused to allow anyone to get enough to him to grow. His year, from his point of view, had been fun, had not had a moment of boredom or of doing anything he did not want to, but in truth was stale, even if he is yet to recognise it. If he ever will.

It may seem as though Max has let go of his chains, has accepted that an inheritance is not everything, that there are more important things in life - but this isn’s true. Max has just stopped caring. Max has stopped thinking about the future and what it will bring, and his chains bind him more tightly than ever, especially when he finds out what it means, that he has failed. 

Do you think their future is now open, or certain? 

His future is uncertain. Open connotes some sort of positivity. Max’s future is neither certain nor open. 

Will they be happier now? 

Max has borrowed all the happiness of his future, and is bound to default soon.

How do you think will their character arch close after you tell them goodbye? 

Depending on the actions of his parents and his sisters, neither of which he had ever been grateful towards, or shown the slightest bit of fondness for, he will have to adjust. Max does not know how to deal with change, and beyond that refuses to. He’s prideful, in his own way, but his pride is not enough to drive him. He will trudge through life or breeze through it without ever really having done anything, and it will remain meaningless to him until the moment that he finds his raison d'être, his driving force, if he ever does. Introspection is not his strong point, and it is unlikely this is a point he will reach by himself.

Max still looked in disbelief, an eyebrow raised, but he smiled. “All right, if you say so,” he said, laughing softly, his hands in his pockets. Miron Mai was still certainly not innocent, and he had to refrain from teasing Sigrun on such a big day. Just for now. He grinned. “We’ll celebrate afterwards, yes?”

“Corrupt them,” Max repeated, in his most scandalised tone, grinning. His hands were by his hips. “Like a small fawn. Schatz, are you fucking kidding me? Or is it Herr Mai playing little doe around you? I have nothing against them, really, I just wouldn’t call innocence or naivety one of their defining traits. Why do you say so?” He was still grinning, but he had meant his statements.

The question took Adelger aback. He had stopped speaking to Max a long time ago—almost as soon as Max had fallen from Haus Gold and had made, to Adelger’s eyes, no attempt to rise back. He had done something that he told himself he rarely, if almost never, did: he had given up on him. He remembered his discussion with Helga. How he had told her of even the smallest drop of water would end up eating a mountain if it fell over and over again. And how it was maybe best to let the grass grow over the matter, to let things go instead of giving up. “Depends,” he said, honestly. “Will you do something about your wishes?”

Max grinned, and it was a bright grin that once again Adelger find himself almost envy. “So, correct me if I’m wrong, you want to see who between us will break more hearts?”

Of course, this was not the story from Max’s perspective. Neither did he think that Adelger knew what he was talking about, because he was doing something about his wish, right at that moment. “What if they’re the kind that don’t come true?”

“Well - yes, although I’m realising now that I’ve just admitted defeat. Call it humility and let me declare the challenge renewed.”

Sigrun laughed and playfully pushed Max. As she did so, she ran her hands through his hair, roughly ruffling it. “You, stupid. And Herr Mai.” She knew he was joking. That was the way they were with each other, after all. The two disgraced Golds. They had to stick together somehow.

Max almost laughed when Irmin moaned around him, when he licked, because of course he would find a way, except instead of a laugh it was a swear instead, muttered under his breath, simultaneously cursing, appreciating, and being impressed by this determination. Max listened to these suggestions, and at the second lick, loosened the fingers that kept him in place, allowing him to move freely, to kiss up his skin, to slide up towards him once more. If he was being absolutely honest, the words went into one ear and out the other. Right until this last suggestion, of course, when Max chuckled, his hand sliding away from his hair, to his neck, to the collar of his shirt. He used his free hand to prop his upper body up, to meet Irmin halfway, holding him by the collar and pulling him closer once he was upright. “Fine,” he murmured, his lips almost brushing against Irmin’s, his hand slipping into his trousers. “I need a little more convincing. There was this tiny drop of envy inside of Adelger as Max not only declared himself happy, but also let himself laugh about it. Still, Adelger simply smiled amused at it. “I don’t see the point in it,” he replied, daring to even shrug about it. It seemed so futile, didn’t it? If he wanted something, he’d have just to work hard for it. And if he knew there was something that he could never have, no matter how hard he worked for it, then what was the point of wishing? “Ah, that…” He didn’t sound so convinced about being the King of Breaking Hearts—not because he was ignorant of all those who convinced themselves infatuated with him, but simply because it wasn’t a breaking, it was just waking them up from a stupid fantasy. “And what challenge was that?” Having sincerely forgotten what it was.

Max firmly believed that there was no need to tiptoe when walking around eggshells when one could simply remove the uncertainty and stomp on them. He was just a bit of a hypocrite at sticking to this firm belief. Still. “So will you stop speaking to me again when you realise that I came into this conversation with all wishes and no points?” Perhaps he did have this to be grateful for, the fact that he had already lost this friendship, and could not lose it again. And then he grinned, brightly, eyes almost shut. “Ah, that. Mh.” He crossed his arms and tilted his head, smirking. “The one about breaking hearts.”

"Many have tried,” Max said, as ominously as he could, with a smirk. "Many have also succeeded.” There was a grin. And then he shoved a hand into his pocket and shrugged, letting it settle into another smirk. “I’ll make a wish when you do.” He laughed at this comment, walking towards the tree and tying the ribbon back onto the branch. “Almost as well as you, even.” And then there was nothing for his hands to play with, and Max did not know what to do.
