Conscience and cowardice are really the same things.
A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies.

One can always be kind to people about whom one cares nothing.
The one charm of the past is that it is the past.
Conscience makes egotists of us all.
There is nothing that you, with your extraordinary good looks, will not be able to do.
This world and I are on excellent terms.
Moderation is a fatal thing.
I never quarrel with actions. My one quarrel is with words.
You and I are what we are, and will be what we will be.
The commonest thing is delightful if one only hides it.
Your cynicism is simply a pose.
Being natural is simply a pose, and the most irritating pose I know.

She is a peacock in everything but beauty.
Laughter is not at all a bad beginning for a friendship, and it is far the best ending for one.

You would be a set of unfortunate bachelors.
I give the truths of tomorrow.
I prefer the mistakes of today.
USEDSHIELD
he didn’t say anything for a while. there was always a truth between him and wanda, always something that existed that said, let us be honest, in all its heartbreak. finally, he shrugged, a half-hearted gesture. “we were trying to do better; we needed to exist because we were the only ones who could do that.” there was something there — history, he supposed. “they’re calling themselves the avengers because they think it’s the name of a team. i don’t know if they realize it’s as much a promise as anything else.”
HONESTY IS A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE, but that does not stop men from believing they can force it to be something it isn’t. Or force it to exist at all. Or force it to be nothing.
❝ And it is hurting to you. ❞ Again, Steve wears the blood of his own honesty proudly as he had the star on his chest ; again, Wanda wonders if he’s chosen that, or if it was simply placed upon him as that same star had been. She finds herself quite suddenly unwilling to pursue the questions she’d so feverishly sought an answer to. Instead, she lays a hand upon his arm, too - warm and dry and solid where perhaps it would be expected to be slight. ❝ Do you not trust them ? ❞
AILESDEFAUCON
❝ I’VE BEEN KEEPIN’ AN EYE ON HIM FOR A FRIEND. ❞ Wanda is usually intense by default, to some degree. But the level of this particular intensity is enough to nudge Sam’s curiosity. ❝ — — … Do you know the Red Hood ? ❞
❝ THAT IS KIND OF YOU. ❞ Sam is kind, not just in this. But that is an observation that does not serve the current conversation. ❝ I --- --- am knowing of the Red Hood. I have . . . seen him. Some of him. ❞ More of him. Suddenly : ❝ he is not doing anything that is wrong. ❞
USEDSHIELD
“they’re hoping the name still means something.” steve tried to keep himself from having a tone to match hers, but it was harder than he would have thought. “’course they never did much understand what the name meant in the first place.”
STEVE’S ENERGY ALWAYS FEELS LIKE THE AFTERMATH OF A RAINSTORM, unmistakable, powerful, calming but never calm. She will sit and feel the force of it roll off him like waves of springtime humidity and see without looking. He reveals more, always, than Wanda thinks he means to.
A change in tack, or rather : a different line of questioning entirely. ❝ --- --- And what was it meaning ? Before ? What did they not understand ? ❞
❝ HOW IS IT ? ❞ She’d sought him out wordlessly, without so much as a reply to his message in advance warning. ❝ --- --- That you are knowing the Red Hood ? ❞
@ailesdefaucon !
❝ SO I WOULD BE DISGUISING MYSELF. ❞ Something dangerous drips from the syllables, outsized for her tiny frame. The added inch static electricity adds to her hair only underlines it. ❝ Although I do not need to be inside of their party to be making his brains into . . . something wobbly. That you know. I am only making an offering. ❞
@cfbartcn !
❝ AM I WRONG ? ❞ Despite her tone, she is truly asking. ❝ Why are they calling themselves THE AVENGERS now if we are still to be doing the dirtiest of the work ? ❞
@usedshield !

❝ WATCHING REALLY DOESN’T HAVE THE BEST CONNOTATION WHEN MIDDLE - AGED MEN AND YOUNG GIRLS ARE CONCERNED. No, I haven’t been watching you, but I’ve been aware. ❞
We ? is a dig, whether she means it as such or not. There will always be a distinction between those whose very blood is charged by magic and those whose aptitude outshines their pedestrian ancestry. But it doesn’t matter ; they don’t have to be equals in order to respect on another. ❝ Whatever your name for it, this is a place where you can safely express yourself. ❞
And safety is paramount, here. Not only her safety, but the safety of the world around her. Wanda has the ability to disrupt the very fabric of reality if she were so inclined. Stephen can see that power coming off her in waves like a glass of water turning into frozen vapour when flung out into sub - Arctic conditions.
❝ — — Do you have access to the Akashic Records ? ❞
HE MAINTAINS HER ATTENTION EVEN AS SHE LOOKS AWAY, a slow circling of backward steps taken to peruse the seemingly endless borders of crystalline surroundings. Just beyond, distorted as if viewed through rippling water, Wanda can just make out the interior of a finely - appointed home, stone and dark wood and glittering skylights. An absent flick of her fingers sends another dart of scarlet toward the nearest boundary, where it spider - cracks along the surface like hot lava peeking through broken earth. Then, she smiles.
Then, she turns it on him, mouth moving once more. ❝ --- --- How are you knowing this place ? ❞ Genuine curiosity colors her tone a matching warm color, almost childlike in the way she watches him with eyes gone cool brown again.
His question is framed in a way that illustrates his own limitation. ( The Torah existed in the time before the world and the Torah will exist afterward, a blueprint of life in the hands of fallible beings and a story of how they will fail, and how they will rise. ) Wanda has no desire for Queen Esther’s knowledge. ❝ No. ❞ If she had, they would not be here ; if she had, Pietro would be beside her. Something suspicious edges into her tone. ❝ --- --- If that is what you are wanting from me, I would not give you it anyway. ❞

She herself is a haunted house. She does not possess herself; her ancestors sometimes come and peer out of the windows of her eyes and that is very frightening.
