"life is short. mess with your old man, ruin your sister's hair. teach vision romani swear words. borrow money from them and never pay it back."
@masterrofmagnetism ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── drinking time (open)
"warm beer or cheap wine."
“An act of spite or poverty? I am having a difficult time deciding which one it is.”
"act of this feels weird, we're literally sitting alone, drinking in a bar - what the fuck?"
“If you are sitting in a bar, then you are hardly alone. At least in a physical sense. Trust me. There are far worse things we could be doing right now.”
"what a crucial correction. thank you, for making my free time here even more enjoyable. you and your nice little talks mister... always making for such heartwarming father and son moment."
he replied with a sigh after the sarcastic remark. disappearing for only a second before returning with a couple of cold beers.
"here, fixed it. so you know i'm not poor. by the way, have we ever even done this before? like, even once? i can't remember a single time we've actually sat down and had a drink together."
“Memories are odd like that. We often pick and choose which ones we remember and tend to favour those which fit our internal narrative best.
I can assure you that this is not the first time. It is however, the first time you have willingly picked up the tab.”
"oh, you're right. that might be an effect of the resurrection. although it's strange - how come i still remember that day, right?"
pietro said, taking a slow sip of his beer. seemed stubbornly committed to this sarcasm contest, refusing to give up his sharp tongued attitude.
"don't get used to it. i can't always pay for both you and wanda."
“I think there are some things that cannot be forgotten. At least not entirely.”
There was little point of shying away from the subject. There were many who had died and been resurrected a hundred times over. Playing god was bound to come along with a few unforeseeable side effects.
“However, if you keep knocking that cheap beer back as fast as you do, you might be able to kill off a few brain cells. Who knows? You might even get lucky. It could be the ones that aid the ability to retain memories.”
"did you just... oh god. even i didn't expect that much from you. the fuck."
pietro kept chugging his beer until the very last drop, trying to process the fact that his father had just pushed the subject aside like it was nothing. the same subject tied to the day when that man's anger had resulted in his death.
he wasn't exactly hurt - it was more confusion, disbelief and shock. he didn't even know if he should be angry at the moment. so instead, he chose to keep drinking, letting the silence speak for him because he couldn't make a comment.
"i think i'll get another one."
stop pretending everything is fine.
"everything is fine. i can get us outta here in less than a minute. but where's the fun in that? i want to savor every second and enjoy my space adventure."
"sure, that's a fitting correction. after all, someone in your position must be cautious."
pietro replied, his lips curling slightly as one brow lifted. there was something about the way he constantly slipped in those smartass remarks, always alluding to past incidents and old conflicts. maybe it was a habit inherited from erik, carrying that same razor-sharp tongue.
"for the most part? i'll take that to mean you trust me almost all the time - until my sister gets involved. acceptable."
he raised his arms, stretching them lazily before adding,
"and i'll take logan's judgment of character, if there's one thing he's good at. what does he call you again, moonbeam? he'd probably say something like 'cajun's earned my respect. but if my back's exposed? i'd still want moonbeam behind me.' right?"
He was joking, but how trustworthy she found Pietro to be was something Rogue had taken time to consider. She had always been weary of the Avengers, given her past transgressions against them and the animosity that often arose between them and the mutants.
Of course, his close relationship with his sister, the witch who decimated the mutant population, was a real tough hurdle for most to get past. For her part, Rogue had worked out her issues with Wanda. She'd never fully trust her, but they had set aside their differences and worked together on several occasions.
None of that played too large of a role in her assessment of him. She trusted him enough to be on the same team, but the speedster had many qualities that caused concern for her.
Starting with that all too familiar cynicism he was currently displaying. In that aspect, the apple didn't fall too far from the tree. That wasn't mentioning the ego that came with it.
His poor imitation of Logan made her laugh. "Ah meant Steve. Hate to be the one to tell you, but ol' Wolvie ain't really fond of too many. Ain't ever asked him his opinion on you particularly."
"The fact is, in most cases, you do a good job. But I've seen you let your confidence cause issues. Trust like what I've got with Logan takes a lot of time to build. Plenty of time to show your worthy of it."
"worthy of your trust? what an interesting way to put it. almost sounded like my father."
pietro said with a smile, resting his hands on his hips. hearing honest, direct words on the matter felt refreshing. one thing he could never stand, aside from forcing himself to be patient through people's pointless small talk - was insincerity. people pretending their feelings were something they weren't. thankfully that had never been a problem with rogue.
"i don't think it's about time. you and i go back further than most mutants do. just not in the same way the x-men grew close, spending years together in a mansion surrounded by the kind of friends they'd call family."
he shrugged his shoulders and met her gaze, holding it as he continued.
"still, i'm mostly positive about you too. not many people could find the will and strength to carve out their own path after everything you've been through. and for the most part, the decisions you've made in life have turned out pretty well. you're good at calling the shots. except when it comes to dating, of course. i'm not talking about remy, you get what i mean."
@dxrkeyes ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── drinking time (open)
"a bottle of red wine with fancy name. take it, talk some french and brag to people about what a big-shot sommelier you are remy. all i know is if we drink alone, we're either punching each other or kissing."
Remy grinned at Pietro's surprisingly off assumption of him, nose scrunching in amusement, "You de first gars ta t'ink I am even remotely dat fancy, Speedy. Sommelier? I'm from de Big Easy, not la Ville-Lumière, mec.”
That wasn't to say that he didn't enjoy a good wine, he just found himself reaching for a beer more often than not, or mixed cocktails.
"Kissin'? T'es mignon, an' also an ass," Remy laughs, lightly pushing Pietro's face away and towards the bar, "buy me a Sazerac, mebbe I forego de punchin'."
a chuckle escaped his lips, eyes slowly lifting from the table to meet remy's face, returning the grin with a smirk.
"not many people call me i'm both. it feels more fun to tease you than mess with others, though i don't know why. hope that counts for something."
pietro said, only to return a second later, holding a sazerac in an old fashioned glass. sitting back down, he watched the wind from his speed mess with remy's hair. it was a clear indicator that he hadn't bothered wasting time asking the bartender to make the cocktail, instead, he had done it himself and made a quick trip back to the table.
"well, i highly doubt you'd land a hit - but who knows what kind of tricks you hide up your sleeves. surprises are your thing. that's true both in fights and in flirting."
"if you came for wanda, she's not here. and i don't know where the hell she is."
pietro muttered to the man standing beside him, keeping his eyes fixed anywhere but his father's face. maybe it was because looking at him meant seeing too much of himself staring back. everyone had always said they shared the same eyes, the same hair, the same sharp features - as if looking alike could somehow make up for everything they had never been to each other.
even after all these years, he still couldn't imagine having a normal conversation with him. trying to mend what was broken had always felt pointless. besides, he was too proud to reach out, too bitter to believe anything would ever change and too stubborn to admit that some part of him had once wanted things to be different.
rp starter - @masterrofmagnetism
Erik had never been one for guarded expressions and measured words and he knew it was impossible to hide the disappointment and quiet frustration from his expression as he regarded his son.
He could not blame the younger for his less than pleasant attitude. As of late, that seemed to be all he received and the boy had his reasons.
He would not be goaded into an argument by a child however. Let alone one of his own.
His tone was stern as eyes eerily similar to the younger man’s own bored into him, despite the fact he seemed unwilling to meet them.
Sooner or later everyone needed to face their short comings and he had been more than willing to for years.
“You are getting a little too old for the teenage angst, don’t you think? If your sister is not available, I am certain you will do.
Unless you are preoccupied with brooding. Of course. Gods forbid I interrupt.”
"better than getting too old to keep playing the savior."
he replied with his eyes closed, chin tilted slightly upward, reflecting the same arrogance and sharp tongue his father was known for. a sigh escaped his lips as he slowly pushed himself to his feet, a clear sign of reluctance. he was far more used to moving at impossible speeds than forcing himself through slow, deliberate motions.
"you did interrupt. but let's not make the old man any angrier and give him another wrinkle, hm?"
he said, finally lifting his gaze to meet his father's eyes. for a brief moment, he wondered how the man had barely changed at all. despite the years, he still carried the same broad shoulders and imposing figure. maybe the sight of a man was built to protect his children, opposite to what he had leaned into.
his lips curled slightly as he added,
"looking exactly the same."
It was always the same thing.
Insolence. Animosity.
An anger that could not be quelled by any amount of apologies or explanations.
He couldn’t help but wonder if Pietro’s antagonistic attitude would be the same if it was Magda standing before him instead. There was no guiltless party regarding the way things had turned out. The only truly innocent ones being the children themselves.
Would he be able to show patience in her presence, the same way she had always seemed to conjure it up in him? A soft look. A gentle touch. Just enough to calm the turbulent waves raging inside. Her own power. Exclusive to her.
Signing, he pinched the bridge of his nose. Lead by example. Be the bigger man. He is hurt, not angry. He swore he could hear the phrases in his head being spoken in HER voice.
“Perhaps if the younger generation could pick up the slack a little more, I would not be forced to.
There are lots of places I would rather be. Somewhere warm and quiet. But alas— it seems I am not so lucky.
Life is not ideal for anyone. Stop acting as though you are the only one who struggles.”
pietro was caught off guard by the calm response. he had expected another cutting remark, something meant to hurt. questions flashed through his mind in an instant. was his father finally too old to argue? or was he holding back because he needed something from him? rested his hands on his hips before answering.
"i've never claimed that. how could i, when i know my own sister suffered more than i ever did? an ideal life was never possible for mutants - especially not for us."
he seemed to soften a little by the end.
"and i'm also aware you probably struggled more than both of us.. not that it makes up for anything, though."
his gaze slowly dropped, settling somewhere around his father's chest. he wondered if he should finally ask the question he'd never had the chance - or perhaps the courage - to ask. would it make any difference now? would it fill the empty space that had followed him all his life?
another sigh escaped him before he spoke again.
"it's actually... good to see you here. there's been something on my mind for a long time. i didn't want to ask wanda. i thought it would only make her sad."
he fell silent for a few seconds, searching for the right words. how was he supposed to ask something like this after all these years?
"where's... i mean, if there is one... where's my mother's grave, father? or... is there even a grave? if she died from the cold but still managed to make it down the mountain, someone must've found her... right?"
It was a rare occurrence for Pietro to show any kind of open vulnerability. Far too often he was adamant to play the tough guy role. An act perfected in childhood. Likely for the purpose of being strong for his sister, who was a much more sensitive being than he was.
Or so it seemed.
The only time the boy ever followed anything, was when he had no idea that he was. Defiant by nature. A trait that was both infuriating and commendable.
Erik would not squander the opportunity. Letting down his own walls had become an easier feat with the passage of time. Not one borne of eagerness, but necessity.
It was the quickest and easiest way to earn someone’s trust.
“Your sister is strong but sensitive. But you know that you do not need to wait to ask me if you have inquiries. I have not been hiding from you, Pietro.”
He knew the boy was bold and unapologetic, but he was not entirely prepared for such a hard hitting question right out of the gate. He hoped that he wouldn’t be able to see him tense or notice the way his steps faltered for just a fleeting second.
“I do not know where her final resting place is located. But not for lack of trying. For years I searched. Only to find dead end after dead end.
It is not easy to locate someone who does not want to be found.
There is a memorial. At the base of Wundagore. I crafted it with my own two hands.
I cannot imagine that you would want to go back there”…
"yeah... i guess you're right."
pietro said, letting his gaze wander elsewhere again, partly because he never imagined he'd be having this conversation with his father. he wasn't sure whether he should keep digging into it. his instincts urged him to, yet at the same time, he couldn't shake the feeling that an even greater tragedy might be waiting beneath the surface.
"strange, isn't it? that place has always resembled danger to me. even though it's where i was born... where i saw my mother for the last time."
his expression settled somewhere between thoughtfulness and quiet sorrow. after a few seconds of silence, he spoke again.
"you know... we watch a lot of people come and go throughout our lives. sometimes they even come back, just like i did. but out of everyone i've lost, i never really believed that bringing someone back would make much of a difference. if they die, you learn something from it. if they come back, you just carry on from where you left off. at least that's how i've always coped with death."
he let out a quiet sigh, shrugging his shoulders.
"except my mother."
another pause.
"i can't stop wondering how different everything would've been if she'd been there. if she were still alive with us now. everything i know, everything i became.. it all could've been so different."
his gaze remained fixed on the distance.
"don't you agree?"
He gave a solemn nod. Both in agreement and to acknowledge that he knew exactly where Pietro was coming from. It was often a thought he had himself from time to time. How different things could have been if they had been allowed to progress on an alternative trajectory.
“Different does not always mean better. I have found that often times different can be much worse.
Tibetan monks have a saying that goes something along the lines of”—
He paused to clear his throat.
“There is little else we can truly control besides our own selves. It means that we may not have control over others. Or time. Or fate. But we can control how we respond to them.”
A long moment of silence fell over the pair. A moment for Pietro to think about what he had just said. Erik couldn’t remember if he had ever seen the boy in a contemplative mood before. Another opportunity that would be a sin to waste.
“I tried once. Willing to lower myself in a moment of desperation. Messing with powers I didn’t truly understand and trusting in someone I never should have.
She wouldn’t have returned right. Sometimes it is best to let things rest. A notion I have often struggled with.”
pietro squinted his eyes, the spark in them fading into something hollow. the sorrow was still there, but it had settled into quiet acceptance. maybe that was the cruelest part - knowing that even the most tragic moments couldn't be undone. all anyone could do was endure them, or bury them deep enough to keep moving.
"that was... very stoic, father. but also soulless. then again, who are we to have the luxury of getting emotional, right?"
it was the way he'd always lived. no matter how much he suffered, even after hearing his own sister call him a sociopath, he convinced himself this was the only way to survive. to keep going. to carry tragedy without letting it stop him.
"she deserves to rest. she doesn't deserve to come back only to suffer even more than she did in her short life. because we're in an even worse place than when she left us.. aren't we?"
his eyes grew watery as he finally gave in to the urge to let his real thoughts surface. for most of his life, he'd seen that as weakness - especially with his father standing right beside him. but this time, the mask slipped. for once, the broken, exhausted son stood before his father instead of the man who pretended to be fine.
"come on. tell me i'm wrong. call me weak, dramatic, or disappointing. but you can't say i'm wrong. because we fucking failed. we failed with the brotherhood, with the avengers, with the x-men. so what now? what the hell is the plan for this family?"
his tear-filled eyes met his father's. he needed an answer. he needed to know what his father truly thought about all of it. it was a conversation that should have happened years ago.
If only Pietro knew that he had always been able to see right through him. So often it was like gazing directly into the mirror. A magical pane of reflective glass that allowed him to look backwards into the past and see the young man HE had once been.
The cocky overconfidence and borderline narcissistic attitude only existed to cover up fears and insecurities. He refused to show any kind of weakness as though fully convinced that every time he did, it would be used against him in some way.
The defiant and oppositional behaviour came from the anger and hurt that he felt. To bite others before they could bite him. To give them a taste of what he felt deep inside of him day after day.
Was he too now struggling to keep the facade up as he grew older? Was the need for connection overriding the desire for safety?
It was difficult to see him so distraught. Even more so to hear him sound so defeated. Yet, Erik would not pity the boy. If his suspicions were correct, pity was the last thing Pietro wanted. It was definitely not something he needed.
“We learn.”
His answer was blunt and simple. His voice stern and almost commanding.
“We learn. We adapt. We survive. That is what we have always done and what we will continue to do.
Is it painful? Yes.
Will we continue to make more mistakes and face more failures? Absolutely.
But the one thing we do not do is give up.
You have never been a quitter, Pietro.
Realign your goals.”
"goals... i can run fast enough to break the space barrier. then again, even i don't know if there'll ever be enough time to reach them all, father."
he replied, letting out a deep breath. the storm of mixed emotions in his mind slowly began to settle after hearing his father's honest, straightforward answer. what else was there to do? what could they come up with besides trying? those quick, rhetorical questions helped him make up his mind, agreeing with his father for once.
"but i guess it's either that or living like a plant. funny, isn't it? even a speedster and his omega level mutant family can't outrun fate. it always finds a way to slam us into the ground. then we choose - either get back up and try again or give up."
a rare gesture. one probably no one had ever seen from him, not even his sister, followed as he raised his arm and extended a hand toward his father.
"let's try to beat it again. until it gets sick of us. of our family. dad."

i need a wanda main or exclusive. not sure which one yet, but it just feels like there's an empty spot. pietro doesn't really feel complete without his sister.
so, hit me up in dms if you're interested. we can arrange fun or serious plots, interact with each other more often. unless your portrayal is mcu based, ofc. if she's romani and mainly based on earth-616, everything is fine.
Hungry??
*fighting the urge to steal the plate in a milisecond*
A socialized and civilized being would go with “may I?” Or perhaps “yes please.” But I suppose that is asking too much.
"may i keep the pot and leave you the plate then??"
I am unconvinced that even you could consume an entire pot of pasta. No need for gluttony now. The great depression has passed. There will be other meals.
"extraordinary metabolism and calorie deficit from running every day. you guys never get that. not even wanda. she always thinks i'm raiding her snacks just for fun. i mean, sometimes i am. but the point is i need to eat more."
Perhaps it is a habit and not so much of a need. Both the over indulgence and the running. Just because you are fast, does not mean that you always need to be. You are still capable of walking. Maybe you are even capable of standing still? Or better yet— sitting down. At a table. With familiar company.
"you're telling me to slow down my lifestyle even though all of you move like snails? you have no idea how hard it is for me to adapt already!
you know what, i'm keeping the rest of the pasta for this."
*steals the pot in the blink of an eye - taking a bite and chewing angrily.*
What a shame it is that they do not consider immaturity an art. Some would be keen to call you a master.
"well, take that up with my therapist. even she couldn't convince me that adapting to society isn't its own special kind of torture."
pietro kept eating his pasta, the irritation still plainly written across his face.
"picture this. you're waiting in line at a restaurant and the person in front of you can't decide whether they want pickles on their burger or not. now, put yourself in my place and imagine having to wait while they spend five minutes making a decision that should take seconds. take an atm, for example. there's an old man who doesn't know how to withdraw cash, pressing every button, staring at the screen, trying to figure out how the machine works. and you're just standing there, watching every slow movement."
"now multiply that by every person you meet. people hesitating, changing their minds, taking forever to finish a simple task or say what they mean. that's what every day feels like for me. everyone else moves at a normal pace but to me it feels like the whole world is moving in slow motion. and somehow i'm the one who's supposed to adapt."

"i don't even know how i ended up becoming a courier for the emporium. bring this, bring that..."
he crossed his arms, tapping his foot against the floor as he added in a slightly judgmental tone.
