I honestly didn’t have much of an idea for what exactly they were gonna be doing but the loose idea was Fili and Kili think one of them is faster than the other so Bilbo, Dis, and Nori figured they’d go watch to find out which will beef it down a flight of stairs or into a pillar first. Bilbo and Dis wanna keep an eye out to make sure Fili and Kili don’t actually hurt themselves as much as they think it’ll be entertaining. Nori just shows up whenever there’s an opportunity to convince people to make bets.

A little while back someone I follow (bunabi, go follow her, she’s great) answered an ask about how to grow as an artist and push yourself. Her answer was to find something that makes you want to do things you haven’t done before, like hers is her Inquisitor from DA:I. I’d already done this by then but seeing her post really drove home that apparently mine is fucking dwarves. Tolkien’s merry band of dwarves and the characters I designed to flesh out their stories, specifically.

I started this on January 1st of 2021 and didn’t finish it until around September 5th of 2021 because of how much time I spent last year working on something written rather than art. The image and work are relevant though 👀

I rarely draw more than one character in a single pic, until this I’d probably done it twice and one of those instances was also Durin’s Heirs Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum. I’ll apparently do anything for dwarves.

I don’t usually post the Flat Color stage anywhere except Patreon but I forgot to section off a progress pic during the outfit design stage so this is my way of making up for it.

I don’t remember when I started drawing the lineart stage in a smorgasbord of different colors but I’m so fucking glad I did. It’s a million times better for my eyes for some reason and I love the way it looks.

2020 was the year of full body designs and doing new shit despite the fact that I rarely have any idea what I’m doing. Next Test Subject; Cinder

There’s plenty of concept art and photos of the Dale set but it was still a long journey to finish the background design. It easily took the longest out of any other stage and I’m still not sad to be done with it.

The sheer amount of layers and fuckery that went into the background from start to finish ended up overloading my Paint SAI so bad I had to split this up into three files by the end.
