The Ancient Runes professor is actually the best at decoding my handwriting, which isn’t surprising. I also work the hardest in that class because it’s more interesting.

I think they’ve owled me within the past three weeks but I can’t remember if I owled back. I think I tried but they didn’t ask interesting enough questions so I didn’t care enough to write back, which is kind of a dick move. But Skyping would be really fun! Way more fun than that weird fire thing people do.

Okay those are really weird. What kind of person would be obsessed with those? I gave some to a few other people and they all thought they were weird except one. Also Lenny likes them even though they’re probably terrible for him. He’s eating one right now. Maybe they’ll kill him. Hopefully they’ll kill him.

Yes you’re Amish, and yes that was terrible, but you still did it. I almost failed Ancient Runes because the professor couldn’t read my handwriting. I had to go talk to him about it, and it was terrible. Do you know how long it’s taken me to make this letter legible? Not very long because I haven’t tried very hard, but if I did try it would take a long time and I’d probably forget what I was even writing about. Which I have to do when I write in class because they aren’t gonna spend a lot of time trying to decode my scribbles.

If I can read your writing, any one can. They’ve had six years to adapt, and I remember when it looked more like hieroglyphics than actual words. They should count themselves lucky honestly.

Have you talked to Mum or Da lately? I feel bad not writing them but their refusal to get a phone will be the end of me. I did talk to Paps the other day though, which was nice...okay, so maybe as unfair as it would be I might be happy if you got them to let you use a computer. Skyping you would be nice. It’s weird not seeing anyone you know? Even if I didn’t see you much when you went to Hogwarts anyway. 

Also! I’m sending you this weird sweet thing my roommate is obsessed with. They’re truly disgusting if you ask me, but what sort of sibling would I be if I didn’t say ‘Oh this is disgusting, you should try it.’?

Mostly just that, except I also need the professors to like me more so that they can let me use a computer to write essays. I need them to think I’m some sort of brilliant but slightly disadvantaged whiz-kid instead of just lazy so I’ve also been kind of learning things but mostly just pretending to learn so they think something really changed in me over the summer.

You can tone down the punctuation, I’m not that exciting. They better not let you use a bloody computer! I spent an entire year there with out my phone or laptop writing letters like I’d joined the Amish. That so would not be fair. Don’t sell yourself short kid, you’re an Overstreet, we’re all pretty brilliant.

I’m in love with Massachusetts || Drabble

It was nothing like what Max had expected. Everything was busy, everything felt like it was thrumming with life – and now she was a part of it. One of her first stops had been her advisor’s office. He’d shown her the lab where she’d be helping him as well as doing her own work. He’d even given her a key before they’d parted for the day. A small apartment no more than a stones throw away from campus was starting to feel more and more like home. Everything she was dreading eclipsed by excitement. 

Max was exactly where she belonged. She wasn’t a squib, she was just the tiny English one. She was just as remarkable as everyone else she had met, and it was unlike anything Max had ever experienced. Her Papi taught her from the beginning that some people don’t need the wizarding world to be amazing, and looking out at the campus Max knew she’d been right to listen.

“When?”

“My classes start when yours do, so you know, any time in between then and now.”

“Uh huh. Read all about it, too bad we didn’t go together.”

“You know, you could always come with me. I leave a couple weeks before classes start, my orientation was online, and I can put off unpacking for a couple days. End of summer alien hunting road trip weekend extravaganza.”

“I’ll be back before you know it though! Plus I’ll write as often as I can. You know you’ll be the first to hear about my adventures in to Area 51.”
