Maya was never more thankful her kids were grown and out of school now meaning she didn’t have to worry about the stupid PTA meetings for back to school. “You know I think I might actually be jealous of myself now,” she admitted shaking her head in amusement as she raised a glass of wine to her lips.

“You and daddy aren’t the only reason I’ve drawn that conclusion,” Rose argued quietly, swallowing a lump in her throat. There were some things she wouldn’t think about, let alone talk about, even with her mother. “You must really like whoever this guy is if you’re telling me about him.”
“You deserve to have a passionate love, Rose. Don’t block yourself from it,” Maya couldn’t help but feel at a loss that her daughter wasn’t telling her everything, but she knew that she would be there for her. “I do like him. It will probably be just a friendship but I will take what I can.”
christianxstrausse:
“Probably pretty slow work, but by all means go ahead.” Christian laughed, shaking his head. He paused at the mention of her daughter, raising an eyebrow. “Why do I get the feeling that’s more a warning than general knowledge?”
“I can’t tell if you really don’t know how attractive you are or how the women in PTA act,” Maya mused as she shook her head. “It is a warning. She’s quite protective and won’t take any mercy on you.”

“I don’t know. It doesn’t seem like my thing.” Rose shrugged. She was happy to live with her mom forever and not have to worry about being heartbroken like her parents had become. “I’ll meet him. And if he’s decent, I’ll continuously be civil. That’s all I can promise.”
“Just because my first love didn’t turn out to be forever doesn’t mean that it’s not real and that you shouldn’t give yourself a chance,” Maya reminded her quietly, “And that’s all I can ask from you.”
rosexhcle:
“I don’t know. I’m not exactly warm and cuddly with anyone but you.” Rose shrugged. Besides, she would have to come out and admit what had happened with men, and she wasn’t sure she would ever be ready for that. “I don’t know that I’d ever approve of anyone, momma. But I’d meet him and try being nice.”
“I think that you could be warm and cuddly with the right person,” Or at least she hoped that she could. She wanted her daughter to be happy. “I never really thought you could approve of anyone, but if you can at least meet him when the time is right I’d appreciate it.”

“I guess that makes sense. We both shouldn’t do that to ourselves, and considering I’m…well, me, that door is probably sealed tight.” She shrugged, “do you like him?”
“It’s never sealed tight if you truly want to explore that connection for yourself, baby girl,” Maya offered pulling her daughter close to her side, “I do like him. If it becomes something I want your approval.”
christianxstrausse:
“Oh god, bake sales.” Christian snorted, shaking his head at the thought. “I don’t think that’ll be a problem, but it’d be pretty funny to watch their heads explode.”
“Now you’re just tempting me to see how fast they’ll get jealous,” Maya teased enjoying feeling like herself again. It had been so long since she felt more than like a shell. “I just want to give you a head’s up though that if we spend too much time together my daughter will demand that she meets you.”

“I take what I can. But you know that you can always come over, right? We’ve got that open door policy for life whether anyone likes it or not.”
“I do know that. I have to say I did get lucky when it came to my in laws.”

“They seem to be, which is all I care about. And they’re letting me in their lives even after how long it’s been, so I couldn’t complain even if I tried.”
“No I suppose with things like that you really can’t complain too much.”
rosexhcle:
“That’s not necessary. You know I get weird. So do you…think there will be things to get serious with this guy, then?”
“I honestly have no idea but I want to make sure I don’t close that door for myself, you know?”
rosalynprescott:
“I might take you up on that. And you can return the favor, you know, it’d make me feel less crappy about complaining so much.”
“If you want to make it even for me I’m happy to take cuddles with your niece or a bake off night I’m happy to spend an evening making some cupcakes.”
rosexhcle:
“I think that ‘magical’ is a little too nice for me.” Rose admitted with an eye roll. “I mean, it shouldn’t be up to me. But if he passed my approval, I’d come around.”
“I have much more I could use to describe you as. But I’m trying to tone it down for you. I want you to meet him if things ever became serious.”
christianxstrausse:
“PTA moms.” Christian snorted, shuddering dramatically before letting out a laugh. “No, I have none of them following me around to worry about.”
“I’ll keep that in mind then when I keep flirting with you. However the moment one of those moms starts to claim you I will have to ruin the bake sale,” It was a joke that caused her to laugh as she shook her head.
rosexhcle:
“I do know there’s more to life than that, but so far the rest has been pretty disappointing and people don’t like me anyway, so what’s the point?” Rose shrugged. “Is that all? Because if you wanted to go out again after Dad, I think it’s okay.”
“There will be people that like you, because you’re a magical woman with a good head on her shoulders and oh so beautiful,” Maya pointed out as she reached out to stroke her hair tenderly, “But would you be okay with it?”
christianxstrausse:
“Yeah, I can imagine.” He agreed with a laugh, shrugging slightly. “It is what it is, I’ve moved past it. There’s not really anything I can do about it at this point. But no, there isn’t. I’ve been pretty self reliant the last couple years.”
“There isn’t, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sting or that you don’t deserve a lot better than her. But at least I know there’s no competition and I don’t have to worry about some PTA mom confronting me,” Maya admitted in slight amusement.
rosalynprescott:
“Only if you’re sure. But it would be nice to have someone to go to if I needed it.”
“I am absolutely certain, my dear. Otherwise I would keep my mouth shut and never offer it to you.”
rosalynprescott:
“I mean, it wouldn’t hurt. My parents have been gone awhile, Nicola’s all I’ve got. I wouldn’t want to impose on you or anything, though.”
“It’s an imposition if offered it to you. I would love to be around for you if you need me.”
