“I wouldn’t mind some standard to meet,” She admitted deciding to take a ridk as she slid her hand in Rose’s in order to pull her along.
“Well, as I said. None of those,” she shrugged, raising an eyebrow as she took her hand but Rose didn’t pull away. “Is there a reason you aren’t telling me where we’re going?”
mayaa-hale:
“Just because my first love didn’t turn out to be forever doesn’t mean that it’s not real and that you shouldn’t give yourself a chance,” Maya reminded her quietly, “And that’s all I can ask from you.”
“You and daddy aren’t the only reason I’ve drawn that conclusion,” Rose argued quietly, swallowing a lump in her throat. There were some things she wouldn’t think about, let alone talk about, even with her mother. “You must really like whoever this guy is if you’re telling me about him.”
mayaa-hale:
“I think that you could be warm and cuddly with the right person,” Or at least she hoped that she could. She wanted her daughter to be happy. “I never really thought you could approve of anyone, but if you can at least meet him when the time is right I’d appreciate it.”
“I don’t know. It doesn’t seem like my thing.” Rose shrugged. She was happy to live with her mom forever and not have to worry about being heartbroken like her parents had become. “I’ll meet him. And if he’s decent, I’ll continuously be civil. That’s all I can promise.”

“All I can say is it’s somewhere you wouldn’t expect,” She wanted to make sure that it was at least interesting. “I have to make sure I blow you away.”
“Then I suppose it’s lucky for you I have no expectations.” Rose chimed with a slight smirk, “easier to try and impress me.”

“Well then I better not waste my opportunity then,” India in a rush of courage decided to take the other woman’s hand in hers before pulling her along. “We’re going somewhere interesting.”
Rose raised an eyebrow as she was pulled along, but she didn’t fight it. “Do I get to know where you’re taking me?”
mayaa-hale:
“It’s never sealed tight if you truly want to explore that connection for yourself, baby girl,” Maya offered pulling her daughter close to her side, “I do like him. If it becomes something I want your approval.”
“I don’t know. I’m not exactly warm and cuddly with anyone but you.” Rose shrugged. Besides, she would have to come out and admit what had happened with men, and she wasn’t sure she would ever be ready for that. “I don’t know that I’d ever approve of anyone, momma. But I’d meet him and try being nice.”
mayaa-hale:
“I honestly have no idea but I want to make sure I don’t close that door for myself, you know?”
“I guess that makes sense. We both shouldn’t do that to ourselves, and considering I’m...well, me, that door is probably sealed tight.” She shrugged, “do you like him?”
indiamartell:
“I think I can make tonight at least interesting for you or at least I have something in mind.”
“I’d be lying if I said you don’t have my attention.” Rose admitted. She didn’t like saying that to anyone, but it was the truth.
mayaa-hale:
“I have much more I could use to describe you as. But I’m trying to tone it down for you. I want you to meet him if things ever became serious.”
“That’s not necessary. You know I get weird. So do you...think there will be things to get serious with this guy, then?”
mayaa-hale:
“There will be people that like you, because you’re a magical woman with a good head on her shoulders and oh so beautiful,” Maya pointed out as she reached out to stroke her hair tenderly, “But would you be okay with it?”
“I think that ‘magical’ is a little too nice for me.” Rose admitted with an eye roll. “I mean, it shouldn’t be up to me. But if he passed my approval, I’d come around.”
mayaa-hale:
“And that is why I plan on living a very long time, my dear. I want you to live a happy life not hiding in an art studio. And I don’t want to talk about it because there’s nothing to talk about. He’s just a guy who happens to be nice.”
“I do know there’s more to life than that, but so far the rest has been pretty disappointing and people don’t like me anyway, so what’s the point?” Rose shrugged. “Is that all? Because if you wanted to go out again after Dad, I think it’s okay.”
mayaa-hale:
“Yes, but someday I’m going to die and I’m going to worry about you if you don’t have more people in your life. I don’t know what difference you’re trying to hint at, Rose, but he’s a friend. A really pleasant guy that doesn’t want me to feel lonely.”
“And when that day comes, way way off in the future, I’ll lock myself in an art studio in Paris and live as a shut in.” Rose shrugged. “I think you do know and just don’t want to talk about it because of dad, but I’m glad you have somebody.”
mayaa-hale:
“Yes it does. You deserve to have a life outside of me and art. You deserve a full life. It is a good thing I guess, but his name is Christian.”
“I’m perfectly happy having the life I have, I don’t need to add friends to that. Especially since we both know I can’t really stand people. Wait, his? Is this a friend or a...friend?”
mayaa-hale:
“If it makes you feel any better I have met a new friend. So at least you’re not my only friend now, Rosie.”
“Does that mean I have to go actually make friends now? Because I’m not good at that.” Rose spoke, only partially joking as she raised an eyebrow, but she smiled anyway. “But that’s a good thing, right? Who is it?”
mayaa-hale:
“What do you think the answer is?” Maya asked her daughter out of curiosity. “Because I already know my answer, and it’s never. But I’m fine, you don’t have to worry about me all the time.”
“I accepted my fate on that a long time ago,” she admitted with an eye roll. “I always worry. Sooner or later, that’s gonna be common knowledge for you, Mom.”
mayaa-hale:
“I would still make spending time with you a priority, after all you’re my Rosie Posie,” She told her as she tapped her daughter on the nose.
Rose scrunched her nose and shook her head, “there’s never any growing out of that, is there?” She joked, looking at her mom. “How are you doing though, for real? Is everything going okay?”

“I wouldn’t stop even if you asked me to. You’re my little girl Rosie,” Maya reminded as she pressed a kiss to her daughter’s forehead.
“I’m lucky that the others don’t fight me constantly demanding your attention.” Rose argued with a laugh, leaning against her mom, “not that it would change anything anyway.”
