The Mayflower (Pinksterbloem, Cardamine Pratensis) is a flower that used to turn meadows into seas of purple. However, due to pressure both from other plants as well as people, it is now mostly exclusively found next ponds and streams.

In Dutch folklore, the Pinksterbloem was allegedly given to one of the village's young girls. She would be named the Pinksterblom, and would sing and dance through the streets during the Pentecost holiday (i.e. Pinksteren, hence the name). English folklore, however, speaks of the mayflower being sacred to fairies. Bringing these flowers into your houses or using them as accessoiries would bring bad luck. While being chosen as the Pinksterblom was seen as a joyful occation, the English folklore goes right against that vision. Of course, we have no idea what happened to these young Pinksterblommen after bringing their flowers home..
