All the problems that Claire Dunphy experiences are similar to those of many working mothers in America. She worries a lot about her kids and family. She is clearly overwhelmed because of all the problems going on at the same time. These problems she encounters are those that the audience would understand because they are fairly common in american society. Examples of these are teen pregnancy, eloping, invasion of privacy, etc. Lastly the show appeals to a new generation of modern viewers. The show includes a variety of diverse characters. There are gays, foreigners, Vietnam veterans, the "typical" american family, and so many more. It is not hard to relate to at least one of the characters or a combination of several.
