the number and variety of skaters who've made their support for C/B or their feelings against FBC publicly known in small ways is new - i guess if fans are frustrated with ice dance judging this season, it's a million times more so for the skaters
FBC winning with a performance with multiple mistakes which didn't really create a moment, wasn't on the music again, hard to understand. if the backlash helps end the Rettstatt era of ice dance, it won't be a minute too soon
C/B had 5 of the judges, but the 4 who put FBC 1st scored the two teams with a larger gap between, so FBC prevailed. they definitely benefited from having a French judge in both segments, vs C/B who didn't have a US judge in the RD. the leader going into the FD has a little bit of momentum
Jezabel Dabouie, the French judge tanked C/B's score in the FD, gave them 7.71 pts lower than FBC, so that they raised FBC up a bit and lowered C/B's final score a bit
Dabouis, Marta Ologazarre of Spain, Leslie Keen of Canada and Richard Kosina of Czechia gave FBC 10.00's in PCS despite their multiple small errors - the wobbles, the off balance moments, the twizzles - those should keep these 10.00's in Presentation and Composition off the table, especially because some of them interrupted their flow - here's the ISU PCS chart of how judges are supposed to evaluate errors:
so these judges aren't following the rules -their PCS aren't allowed to be higher than a 9.75 based on this. changing the six 10.00's into 9.75's lowers FBC's FD score by a little less than .4 points, so it doesn't change the result. but since these judges are ignoring that there were errors by giving these 10.00's in PCS, if they instead accounted for those errors in the GOE like they're supposed to, it would have changed the winner
but you could say the same about Madi and Evan's 2023 Worlds FD, when she fell, and they still got seven marks of 9.75, which shouldn't be possible with a serious error like a fall
live by the sword, die by the sword, i guess. but this result is extra ugh because FBC are who they are. and because of Chinese Nebelhorn and Shawn Rettstatt and GP France and GP China vs Finlandia and Kaitlyn Weaver and the dance party and vibes. just throw it all out, start over. the skaters deserve better, we deserve better
