Also, a fun fact about the Japanese translation: apparently, ART was originally written with a gruff old-man way of speaking, but later revised into the shrewd older-lady style it has now.

もしそのままのおっさん口調だったら日本におけるファンダムでのARTのイメージがどうであったかを考えるのは楽しい思考実験かもしれません。

It’s kind of fun to think about what ART’s image in Japanese fandom might have been if that gruff old-man speaking style had stayed.

少なくとも今と同じ形ではなかったでしょうね。

status report：近況報告

自分の英語力ではなかなか小説一冊を読み切るのは難しく、System Collapseは邦訳待ちで英語圏のファンダム全般を今は覗きに行けず歯がゆい(日本語ではこういうとき"歯がゆい"=”歯が痒い”と言います)思いをしているのですが、 It is difficult for me to read through a whole novel with my English skills, and I am waiting for the Japanese translation of System Collapse, so I am impatiently waiting(In Japanese, we say “歯がゆい” = “itchy teeth” in such cases) to take a peek at English-speaking fandom in general at the moment, 日本語版の出版レーベルの話によると10月くらいには邦訳が発売されるようです！待ちきれない！！！ According to the Japanese ver. publishing label, the translation will be released in October or so! I cannnnt wait! ネットワーク･エフェクトのときは大まかに1年半かかっていたのですが、なんと1年経たずに日本語訳が発売されることになりました。これはすばらしいことです。海外書籍の邦訳としては本当に早い！きっとみんなが待ち望んでいたからです。 It took roughly a year and a half for Network Effect, and now, in less than a year, a Japanese translation will be released. This is wonderful. This is really fast for a Japanese translation of an overseas book! この作品を訳すとき気を付けていることは～みたいな話の流れから、"マーダーボットは古典的なツンデレである"認識のもとに翻訳をしているという話をしていました

The latter is the original meaning.
