The Kpop World We Live In
Over the past few months, I have noticed a handful of kpop entertainment companies announcing the injury, illness, or hiatus of their idols. Kpop stans have been so vocal about the mistreatment and lack of care that these companies are showing to their idols and fans. These idols are being treated like property and some to the extent of not being treated like a human being but as a money-making machine. The number of lawsuits for corruption, mistreatment, and sexual abuse within these entertainment companies are skyrocketing more than ever, and the overall wellbeing of idols is plummeting. With the constant fear of seeing yet another idol group’s overall happiness, mental, emotional, and physical health declining, many stans have chosen to stop supporting the entertainment companies and therefore stop supporting the groups all together until things get better for the idols.
With all this being said, I would like to talk about Monsta X. I have witnessed a large number of monbebes stop being fans due to the extreme amount of bullshit Starship has pulled and is still pulling. We know Monsta X is overworked, mistreated, and exploited just for Starship’s greed. Kihyun broke his ribs on tour, Wonho was very ill and collapsed during a performance, Shownu injured his shoulder, and Minhyuk injured his knee. Hyungwon was seen limping and Shownu was involved in scandal that Starship did not protect him from. Wonho left and was written off as a criminal die to baseless accusations. Jooheon has been extremely hurt for weeks, and despite Starship saying they will take care of him, it’s been getting worse.
Less than 24 hours after the announcement of Jooheon’s hiatus, Starship announces a world tour with 17 stops in North America in less than 2 months with little to no breaks. Monsta X is also expected to come back with both Japanese and Korean comebacks along with the English album they are releasing in February and eventually an European tour to top it off. Many monbebes are boycotting and refusing to support the deterioration of Monsta X’s health and won’t be a fan until Monsta X’s contract is up. They can’t live with the thought of supporting Monsta X’s exhaustion.
All I can say is that though I feel for the amount of pain and anger monbebes have been feeling, I personally can not chose to stop supporting Monsta X. Monbebes have been through A LOT in a very small amount of time. And we have been so extremely strong. But I think we sometimes forget that Monsta X are the ones who are actually going through the most pain. They are the ones feeling it and as fans, despite it hurting us, we need to support them through this very overwhelming time. No one wants to deal with the pain of what’s happening to Monsta X but turning away from this so that you don’t feel the guilt of what's happening them is not showing them love. Not wanting to stay because you love them and don’t want to see them get hurt won’t make this better. Being there for someone doesn't mean leaving them when things get tough until it gets easier or better for them or your conscious.
Monsta X is not the only group that is being treated like this, and even though that’s not a positive thing, turning away from being a fan is selfish. For example, YG literally ran his company with corruption, and ALL the groups under his label were mistreated, and some sexually harassed.
Yes, what Starship is doing is fucking horrible and disgusting, and we hate it. But just like the support blinks and inner-circles and ikonics gave to BlackPink, Winner, and Ikon when they were mistreated under YG, we have to support Monsta X because this is the hardest time of their lives and if we don’t, they will feel as if they failed and will punish themselves for it.
I am NOT making light of how horrible Starship is treating their idols and the fans. I am NOT saying you have to buy concert tickets. Monsta X doesn't need support from us financially but emotionally. Boycotting and turning away, despite it being easier on our hearts, will hurt Monsta X.
Everyone can make their own decisions. But both admins of this blog are STICKING WITH MONSTA X. We are on their side just like they were for us.
