“What did you put in that?–It’s foul”
“It’s my first day! Did i put the wrong creamer in the coffee?” He asked frantically, taking the drink back.
“So… you’re telling me that they put someone on the moon?”
Hadrian narrowed his eyes into an incredulous, piercing glare.
“Humans have been up there?” he pointed upwards in an exaggerated motion. “What did they do up there? What did the werewolves say about this, huh? Are they doing anything to stop them?”
Turning his attention back to the science magazine in his lap, he reexamined the paragraphs of the article that spurred the conversation. He’d begun the arduous process of learning the history of the human realm, but he’d come to find that the disparities were much more momentous than he’d anticipated.
“Why didn’t anybody tell me about this?” he complained with an exasperated sigh. “I get here, and suddenly: surprise! These humans have been–everywhere! The moon? The bottom of the ocean? What’s next? The Sun?”
Second day at working at this little coffee shop and Micah was being asked crazy questions. He set the man’s coffee down, and began wiping a nearby table. Nodding as he listened to the man ramble. He shrugged, and leaned against the newly cleaned table. “Human’s are weird, what would they gain from being on the moon? I imagine that the werewolves can’t be happy about it for sure!” He exclaimed, before laughing at the man’s final accusation he shook his head. “I don’t think the sun is up anytime soon.”
Peaches and Herb // Buchanan Brothers
@mcahbchnxn
The event had been a fun and well needed escape for Jackson. The chiming of laughter in his ears, the mingling of people all around him, and the warm and fuzzy feeling everything gave him — these were all the things that kept a man like Jackson Buchanan afloat in a world as twisted as his. They were the only things that distinguished him from every other sad man that couldn’t find their way, because they gave him something to come back to. Even when he couldn’t shift, he had this sense of socialization to come back to.
It was what he needed, after all. Knowing that there were people he could tell his stories to and people he could get stories from. The push and pull of a crowd energized him: it gave him a purpose that nothing else could — because aside from his passion of journalism, he traveled for the people.
For the experience.
A content smile played on his lips as he made his way across the many tables set out for patrons, two sodas in his hands. One for him, and one for Evelyn.
He was still some ways away from the table where he had left his date, and the cups were precariously lidless. This would have been no problem for a man as big as Jackson, as he could have easily held the drinks above the reach of others. Well, it would have been no problem for him, had he not been slammed into.
“Woah, shi—!” There was nothing his unfinished swear could stop as one drink flew from his hand onto the floor, and the other against his chest, spilling its content all over his shirt. There was nothing he could say as disappointment — not anger — swept away his previously good mood. But there was something he could do, and that was to look up at the man that he had bumped into. At the man that he had sacrificed his drinks for — the one he had been missing for two, starting three months.
Not thinking to verify if it was really his little brother, Jackson dropped the second cup and threw his arms out, not caring that he’d get his brother’s shirt sticky in the process.
“Micah!”
Micah had been walking with his back towards the direction he wanted to go in. Shouting something back at his new friend, or at least who he thought was a friend, Caiden. Finally when he turned around he ran face first into a tree of a man stumbling back and swearing rather loudly, compared to the man before him, when the liquid spilled slightly. Green eyes frantically looked at the drink that had fallen onto the ground in horror, as he quickly went to apologize, when suddenly everything around him stopped. Like in one of those movies, there was nothing except for him and the man before him. What was probably seconds felt like an eternity as his brain processed the familiar man.
His big brother. When the click was made everything sped up and he practically threw himself into the man’s tight embrace, squeezing back just as hard.
“Jax! Oh my God! I-I’ve been looking all over for you!” He pulled back and held the man’s face in disbelief, green eyes looking him over like crazy. “I can’t believe it’s you! Oh my God, I...I thought I’d never see you again! It’s been so long! Oh Jackson!” He cried again, throwing himself at the man once more, fearing that if he let go for too long, his brother would disappear again.
“Um, whiskey.” Caiden decided. It was a bit much, but he definitely needed it right now. Especially with buddy being pulled out. He wasn’t the buddy type. “I guess so. It’s just a job, honestly. What do you do?”
Micah nodded and ordered two whiskies before swiveling around in his chair. Pursing his lips in thought. “Well I currently do not have a job as of right now, I just applied for a job at a coffee shop, hopefully I won’t have to keep living in my car for much longer, but I’m that stereotypical kid brother and I wanna be an author! My brother is a journalist but being an author is where it’s at yo.” He teased with a bright smile.
“Sounds like a good plan.” Caiden agreed. Something stronger was always good, this one wasn’t cutting out his headache at all. Or calming his mood. “I think they say carpe diem, actually.” He said with a frown. Seize the day, or at least that’s what he’d always heard. “Well, I’m glad you’re satisfied with it and all. And yeah, I’ve been working on cars for over a decade now, so I like them well enough.”
“Tomato, tomato buddy!” Micah grinned with a dismissive wave of his hand. Relaxing back he downed the rest of his drink and set the cup down. “So what would you like for round two, buddy?” He asked with a grin. Nodding along with what the man was saying. “That’s really cool man!”
“I don’t know ye’, so I’m not interested in telling ye’ what happened.” Ryan said frankly, meeting his gaze. She wondered, vaguely, if he was one of them, too. There was no way for her to tell. Ryan mumbled, “Sorry, lad.”
Mich pursed his lips and nodded before he offered his hand. “My name’s Micah, now you know me. Come on, lets get you fixed up so you can say the blood on your clothes is part of your costume.” He offered. “I got some bandages in my car that’ll get you cleaned up real fast, then you can go right on your marry way.”
Upon hearing the voice, Zoya turned to the direction of the stranger, bringing her little dance to a stop. The last time she acually danced with someone was back at home. Her mother would often praise her dancing, however it was something Zoya kept to herself. She preffered figure skating over dancing, but sometimes, she couldn’t help it. The music was captivating to her.
Hearing the man’s question, Zoya averted her gaze to the ground. “I’m not that great of a dancer…and I don’t dance with strangers…”
Micah chuckled and came forward bowing his head slightly. “I bed to differ, your dancing was quite beautiful.” The man hummed. Kneeling down on one knee he ginned in his theatrical way and offered her his hand to take. “Well then, my name is Micah fair princess, now we are not strangers.” The leopard teased.
OOC:
Hey guys! I just wanted to apologize for my lack of activity! I got swamped with work but I’ll be on most of the day today and feel free to him me up to plot!! <3
“This isn’t strong enough to get a toddler drunk.” Caiden said wryly. The other man was a bit more enthusiastic than Caiden normally enjoyed being around, but he figured it wasn’t as bad as it could be. “Yeah? Where’d you get in from?” He asked. He already knew the man wasn’t human, could tell from the smell of him, but it was always fun to see the excuses that the supernatural came up with it. “Oh, it’s not mine. Or at least, I don’t own it.”
Micah snorted and chuckled softly at the man’s jab at the drink nodding. “At least it didn’t cost much. Next round I’ll get us something better.” The man hummed and continued to sip his drink. “The past is the past, live in the now! ‘Carpe noctem’ as they say!” He grinned at his use of the Latin Proverb. “Well you did a wonderful job on my car I should say you should own it! Is that what you like cars? I don’t know jack about cars, to be quite honest.” Micah chuckled swirling the beverage around in his cup with a content hum.
“Good to meet you.” Caiden said, the words not meaning much as they slipped from his lips before he raised his drink, taking a sip of it. It wasn’t bad, although he didn’t think it was as good as the drinks back home. “About a month, so not really.”
“And it’s wonderful to meet you!” The boy grinned, sipping it the ale once more before sighing. “This isn’t even close to being strong enough to get me drunk.” shaking his head he shrugged, nodding along as the man spoke. “Longer than me! Only been here a few days.” He explained with a smile. “Nice shop you got too!”
“Oh, sounds like loads of fun.” Caiden said, smile only fading a bit as he followed the other man into the bustling tent. “I’m Caiden. And you are?” He asked, fingers curling around the large mug set in front of him.
Micah nodded and mumbled the name so he’d remember before he sipped on the large drink in front of him, blinking quickly as he pulled the drink from his lips. “Oh how rude of me! The name’s Micah!” He answered with a charming grin, hand pushing through his messy blond hair. “You live here long, Caiden?”
As the sun was slowly setting upon the park, more adults came to the scene, along with a band that was playing song after song. Many couples arrived so did groups of friends, which made Zoya feel like a complete outsider. Earlier that day, when the festival was more family-oriented, Zoya wandered around and watched the people. She did go horseback riding, praying to god knows what that the large animal wouldn’t kick her off.
Now, it seemed to Zoya that the whole atmosphere changed. She didn’t really know what to do at the moment. The Haunted house was something she deemed off-limits, as she knew she would get nightmares if she was to go in there. So she decided to lean on a nearby tree and listen to the band play. And they weren’t all that bad. As they started to play another song, a ballad, Zoya thought she would go on one last walk around the park. Strolling away from the crowd, she could still hear the ballad. Walking alone, she began humming. With a soft smile on her face, she did a small twirl, hearing nothing but the music.
Micah strolled casually while he ate happily on a caramel apple he had gotten. Looking around with interest, at all the decorations before he finished his apple and tossed it in a garbage can, continuing to look over his surroundings. His acute sense of hearing picked up on a soft sound, one of gentle humming. Captivated he walked forward before stumbling upon a girl. Dancing alone, far away from the rest of the party goers and the music was soft at this distance. Green eyes watched her little twirl before clapping softly with a smile.
“What beautiful dancing! Would you care for a partner?” He asked, hoping a girl this beautiful would say yes.
“I never turn down a free drink.” Caiden said with a smile. That much was true, and actually applied to most free things. “Do they have a tent set up for that too?”
Micah realized very quickly this grump of a man looked much better when he smiled. The shapeshifter’s flirtatious nature begging to come out but he controlled himself. “Oh of course! Got the apple cider for kiddies and grown up.” The young man teased happily leading the other to the tent where they were selling fun Halloween themed drinks. “So I never did get your name.” The leopard mentioned as he ordered two hard apple ciders.
Needless to say, Ryan wasn’t up for celebrating. Cutting through the festival was the quickest way to home, so that’s the route she was taking. Her coat and shirt were torn at the shoulder, but she wrapped it tighter around herself, and figured no one would notice the line of claw marks down her neck and shoulder if she hurried.
Someone did. They stared at her collar, having caught sight of the red. Ryan shook her head and muttered lamely, “Just makeup. For Halloween.”
Micah had just been strolling along, still hoping to run into his brother when he came across a girl who seemed to be hiding something. When she bumped into him he could smell it, the smell of iron, the smell of blood. Quickly he took note of the marks on her arm and scrunched his nose up at her excuse. “Yeah sure, and it’s actually Christmas. What happened to you?”
Caiden nearly winced at the enthusiastic greeting from the man he didn’t really know. One encounter while fixing his car didn’t count in Caiden’s book. “It’s not just the kids that are worshiping the thing. Most of them are adults.” He pointed out, the mystery of the tiny horse bigger than his own vague dislike.
Micah shrugged slightly and shook his head tsking. “Some people just never grow up.” He decided with a nod, before quickly moving to stand infront of the man. “Hey! I never got to thank you for the car! Can I get you a drink?”
Caiden stared at the tiny horse that no less than twenty people were crowded around, aweing and taking pictures. It didn’t look special to him, and he couldn’t smell anything that was different from any other horse. Maybe because it was small? But most ponies were small, it didn’t make any sense, and he kept staring at it. “I don’t get it.” He muttered.
“Well howdy stranger!” Micah greeted with a grin when he recognized a semi familiar face. He still had yet to see his brother but hoped that the festivities would bring his brother to his attention soon. “Eh anything that’s small is adorable, I don’t really get it either but hey, kids like it so who’s right to complain.”
Not human, dangerous, he picked up both things quickly enough, he could sniff out a human from a mile away, and this man wasn’t one. And he wasn’t a wolf. “Depends on what’s wrong with it.” He said shortly, wrapping a rag around his hurt hand. “Bring it around and I’ll take a look.
Micah grinned and nodded, scampering off to pull his car forward. When he got out he was about to explain what the problem was before he noticed the other man’s hand. “Yikes, that looks like it hurt. I got some better stuff in my car if you want. I’ll fix you if you fix my car.” The leopard teased with a wink, patting the hood of the old looking car. “She’s making a weird noise when I press on her brakes, not sure what that’s about.”
