As I grew up

They taught stoicism, estranged my emotions.

They praised individualism, alienated my community.

They demanded toughness, hardened my interior.

They forbade intimacy, denied me touch.

They divided self, disconnected mind from body.

They rejected the sacred, denied our ensouled world.

They demonized the primal, stripped away my roots.

They even took colours

Then, when I was trapped in a prison of shame and respectability,

They told me this made me better than other people.
