COMING SOON TO SOUTH-EAST LONDON...
PECKHAM CELLARS TO OPEN ON 19.11.19
Peckham Cellars is a new neighbourhood kitchen, wine bar and shop offering delicious seasonal food, a well-curated wine list, and a friendly, vibrant community space. It will officially launch on 19 November and will be open in the evenings for dinner as well as weekend lunches.
Owners, long-time friends and Peckham locals Helen Hall, Luke West-Whylie and Ben McVeigh set out to create a welcoming, hybrid space that will function as the neighbourhood’s go-to spot.
“After years of working in hospitality, we wanted to open what for us is the perfect restaurant: a low-key space with great music and a fun vibe, where you can have some snacks and a glass of wine, share small plates, or have a proper three-course meal,” says co-owner Helen Hall.
There will also be an extensive selection of wines to have in or take away and a regular schedule of special events, including winemaker takeovers, “Magnum Parties”, and DJ nights. Reservations are welcome, but there will always be space for walk-ins.
Helen, whose CV includes time in the kitchens of Spring and Rovi, will oversee the kitchen alongside Head Chef Jay Claus, previously at Quo Vadis, Morito and Bao. The ever-changing menu will be mostly British and Mediterranean in influence, with a focus on high-quality, seasonal ingredients and local suppliers such as Flock and Herd and London Smoke and Cure. They will also be serving epic lunches on Sundays.
The wine list is overseen by former Head Sommelier at 28-50 Fetter Lane and wine educator Ben McVeigh, who has curated a selection of both natural and more traditional styles, championing lesser-known regions and varietals. According to Ben,
“The wine list and the menu have the same guiding principles: quality and flavour. I’m excited to work with so many amazing winemakers, but I also want to make sure there is something for everyone here - both in style and price. As with the menu, the list will change frequently, and you will always find someone willing to talk to you about the wines behind the bar.”
Luke West-Whylie, who worked at Marcella in Deptford and The Jones Family Project, will be managing all aspects of service - recruitment, training and day to day site management. He is also the driving force behind Peckham Cellars’ soundtrack and events.
“We have always talked about creating a space that felt like your coolest friend’s dinner party - a place with great vibes, food and drink, but that ultimately feels a bit like home. We want everyone at Peckham Cellars to walk in feeling like a regular, so that hopefully they will become one!”
Peckham Cellars opens from 19 November at 125 Queens Road, Peckham, SE15 2ND

Mark was a passionate and dedicated advocate for our book. He squeezed press out of every avenue and not just any old press but the type an author likes to do and actually raises the book’s profile. We couldn’t have been happier with our publicity wingman.

SOUTH LONDON’S FINEST JOIN FORCES TO HOST A VEGAN SUPPER CLUB IN AID OF REFUGEE WEEK
Peckham venues WILDFLOWER and Ghost Notes team up with Camberwell-based vegan food channel So Vegan to raise money for UK charity Help Refugees.
In aid of Refugee Week, one of the world’s largest vegan food channels ‘So Vegan’ will join forces with Peckham’s latest food hotspot ‘WILDFLOWER’ and its sister music venue ‘Ghost Notes’ to host a one-off vegan supper club on Thursday 21 June.
All profits from the evening will support UK-based charity ‘Help Refugees’, who take part in crucial work around the world, helping people who have been displaced due to conflict, violence or persecution.
The menu for the evening’s ‘banquet’ will be inspired by Middle-Eastern cuisine, with familiar dishes such as hot pepper ‘muhammara’ and modern vegan classics such as spice-roasted cauliflower with tahini. So Vegan’s Roxy and Ben, both South London locals, will be working with WILDFLOWER head chef Joseph Ryan on the menu.
“It’s so, so important that we show solidarity for those in need and support a charity doing such amazing work”, said Roxy, Co-Founder of So Vegan. “Food can unite people and we’re looking forward to making new friends and sharing ideas at what we believe is one of London’s finest new venues”.
Following the dinner, WILDFLOWER’s sister venue, Ghost Notes, will host a line-up of incredible local musicians curated by Spaces In Between, and will also feature special guests including Farhood, an Iranian-born MC.
“As a company, we at Parched London have always been really proud of the support we've been able to give to our local community. This project will help us to offer desperately needed assistance to people from much further afield, whilst still working from within the neighbourhood we're lucky enough to live in. We're incredibly excited to be involved and are thankful to So Vegan and Help Refugees for bringing us in, hopefully we can raise a lot of money and make a real difference to the lives of those who need it most”.
Since launching in August 2015, Help Refugees has grown from a social media campaign to a charity that has helped over 722,500 people and supports over 80 projects across Europe and the Middle East. Profits raised from the supper club will help support vital Help Refugees projects, which provide emergency aid such as food, water and medical care to longer term solutions such as housing, education and psycho-social support.
“We are currently seeing thousands of people arriving in Greece, fleeing recent atrocities in the Middle East. Our teams are trying to provide for their basic needs from blankets to nappies, to dry clothes and food packs”, said Philli Boyle, Director and Head of Events at Help Refugees. “Funds raised by this event will help us continue to give this vital support”.
Tickets are on sale now for £40 and are available via Eventbrite. Doors open at 18:30 and the ticket includes entrance to the supper club, a welcome drink and the evening’s live music.
