Low fidelity

Started on a low fidelity prototype. It wont be detailed and wont take long to finish. I have an internim report due soon so i will have to pause this to work on that. Once thats complete and submitted i will get back to finishing the prototype and recieve some feedback on it.

Unfortunately i didnt get a chance to do much work this week as i had other work that i needed to complete. Once thats done i will start on a low fidelity prototype. Need to start putting pen to paper lol

Augmented reality

This week i spent some time to look into augmented reality and how it works and how i can implement it into my project. When speaking to my supervisor he explained how i can use it. During this time i looked into other ways i could use it augmented reality in my project. During this research i looked at a few templates/framework as i dont believe it is feesable for me to code the whole thing. So its best if i start from a template. such as Tony Yang / android-augment-reality-framework · GitLab

I did look into some others which were very helpful.

Huge workload

Have been busy with other work and deadlines so havent done much in regards to the project but ive shown my drafts to my peers and barber associates to see what they think and they gave me a lot of feedback which i will be implementing once i get a chance.

Off sick

Havent done nothing for the past two weeks or so. Just been feeling really unwell and not been able to use my laptop properly. Slowly feeling better though

Drawings

This week i didnt do much work as i was busy with other things. I did however sketch some ideas of how my app will look. Such as the design and user interface. They are very basic designs but its good to get them done early so i have an idea of how i want my final project to look.

Diagrams

Last year we learnt about uses case, sequence diagrams and activity diagram. This was during our group project work that we did last year. These diagrams were really helpful in visualising how the backend of the app will work and how the flow of activity within the app will work. I will need these diagrams to do my project when developing my app.

Feedback

I did a bit of research into java and android studio. Not much research. Through work i used the linkedin learning app to do a quick start module on app development. It was an hour long and was a little refresher on how to get started. This week i also spoke to some peers and barbers that i know about my app project and asked what they think. To which they gave good replies and feedback.

Team call with supervisor

Just spoke to my project supervisor. The main thing i took away from this call is that my project needs to have a bit more complexity and needs a feature that kinda has a wow factor. He spoke about an augmented reality feature where the consumer/user would be able to see haircuts on their head and judge if it would look nice. This does sound really hard and will be really challenging but im up for the challenge and looking forward to it.

Project Specification

This week i worked on my project specification. This is due to be reviewed on the 6th of November so need to get the first draft checked before submitting a final version. Here i discussed what technology i would require. Mainly would be my personal laptop and android app development software. I also discussed my motivations and what made me want to do this project. Wrote a bit about my knowledge and what i need to learn to complete the project. Finally finished with an idea of how long everything will take. Nothing too detailed but just to give me an idea of my timeline and what kind of milestones i will need to set. My goal currently is to start my prototype for january.

Chosen App

This week i thought about which of my project appeals to me the most. It was between the pet app and the barber booking app. Both of which i am really motivated by however in the end i chose the barber app as i felt the app was a bit more complex and so would be a better choice. I also thought about whether to create the app for android or iOS. Im leaning more towards android as i am more experianced in Java. Along with this i looked into and wrote down what i would need to complete this project and how long it can take me to complete.

Project ideas

At the moment I'm still in the deciding phase for my project. I have a few prospective projects which I want to implement. Im currently looking at not only the project but who their target audience is, whether it will be useful and if people will be interested. These are all being worked on and are only the beginning stages of thought. Right now however I'm siding more with the app for barbers and the app for pet owners. This may change as we develop but both look promising and I've received a good feedback from my peers and associates that I've spoken to.
