I'm pretty new to the Good Girls fandom. I think I binged it all in less than a week! You seem to be pretty new, too, so as newbies, what's your take on Brio? Do you think Rio is in love with her? How do you think Beth feels about him? I can't make up my mind about where they are but I love talking about it!
Hello! I am new tothe fandom! I kept seeing it cross myTwitter TL…decided to see what was up…and binged the complete series in 2days…TWICE.
Suffice it to say, I was all in relatively quickly,LOL. Netflix is a wonderful thing.
My take on Brio? Superficially, I really dislike the shipname, however, I’m not nearly clever enough to come up with something better,so whatever :-/
I love the Beth/Rio dynamic. It’s one of the main reasons that I continued watching the show, and thechemistry between the 2 leads is amazing. I haven’t seen chem that good in a super long while…and it seemseffortless, which is a testament to the talents of both of the actors.
Insofar as in storyline…I think that they are intrigued byeach other. Do I think they love eachother? No. They barely KNOW each other. At least not in a way that could be qualifiedas love. Lemme break down what I meanabout “intrigued with each other” by character. I’ll start with Rio, because, for some reason, he’s easier to read.
I think Rio finds the whole situation hella funny. Rio has surrounded himself with people whoare exactly as they seem. He understandswhy Annie would be in to the crime thing…she’s pretty obvious in how often andcomfortable she feels walking on the wild side. With Ruby, there is a desperation to save her child and her family thatrings authentic to someone presumably coming from Rio’s background. (I’m makinga huge assumption right now based on how Rio has been portrayed so far,although there is a not so tiny part of me that thinks Rio’s not as “gangsta”as he seems. I don’t know why I thinkthat…I’m just always conditioned for a twist.) Beth? Beth isn’t at all what shepresents to the world. Everytime Riothinks he knows what she’s going to do…she doesn’t really do it? Like…she twists it, and it’s surprising, andamusing, and he just really likes seeing what she’s going to come up with.
Someone like Beth, after finding out her husband has cheatedon her and lost all of their money would: a) Kick her husband out of thehouse-check
b) Maybe steal one of his cars, run it into a lake afterdestroying his place of business-check
c) Rob a grocery store-…what?
Or say…after finding out the grocery was just a front forlaundering money for a gangster…
a) Try to pay it back with what’s left-check
b) Ebay? Ebay is always good-check
c) Decide to turn to a life of crime…what?
Like, who is this chick? For real.
That’s what Rio finds interesting. When Beth has a problem…she gets creative inthe craziest, non-suburbany way possible.
He wants to know what she’s going to donext. He’s intrigued by a woman whoshould be as predictable as hell not being predictable at all.
Then there’s the sexual tension betweenthem…and it’s all a pretty heady thing that keeps him circling her orbit.
Now…Beth. It’s a lot a harder to articulate how she feels about Rio. She’s not in love with him either…but she’sdrawn to him. This is going to soundsuper cheesy (and a little Delena-y) but…he makes her feel alive.
I think her feelings for Rio are wrapped upin this newfound freedom that she’s found orchestrating these heists, andwalking on the wrong side of the law. She’s never thought of herself as unpredictable, strong, smart,resourceful, amusing…interesting.
She’s never thought of herself as someonewho could talk a gangster out of shooting her in the head.
She’s finding that she kind of likeseverything about this new criminal lifestyle…and she likes who she is when she’sin it.
Plus…there’s a guy in the life who scaresher, and thrills her in equal measure. He challenges her, baits her, flirts with her, yells at her, listens toher…values her and what she brings to the table.
And then there’s the sexual tension betweenthem, and it’s all a pretty heady thing that keeps drawing her closer to him.
For some reason…he knows her…he gets her…andshe wants to find out why.
Soo…when she says “You don’t know me”…andhe replies “I think I do.”…her first thought is “Fuck…I think he does.”
And what Rio is beginning to understandabout Beth, is that, while she may be an unpredictable white, suburbanhousewife…she’s turning into a pretty predictable gangster.
That’s something he knows a lot about.
The fun comes with getting her to see ittoo.
