Today marks “Unmasked’s” (my debut novel) first birthday. Today also marks the completion of The Unmasked Trilogy. I can’t believe it has already been a year, and that my book babies are out in the world. This year has been crazy. The writing community here on Instagram has made this release so special. I would have never thought that I would have had this much support from other authors, nor did I expect to make so many friends. I failed Camp Nano this year. Where I am sitting in this photo is what used to be a furniture filled living room. Now, we have a drawer, a fender for our truck, a cabinet, and a pile of towels. There are many rooms in my house that are empty because of the big move we are making, and I am so excited to dive into this new season. I know it’s going to be filled with new characters, a new setting, and a bunch of new plot lines that will grow me in my faith. The month of July was crazy! My goal for Nano this year was to figure out a schedule for my writing. Truthfully, I probably wrote 5K words this month, a majority of that being planning between five different projects. I’ve been in this creative block, one I’m hoping I will break out of soon. But, before I can call not meeting my word count goal a failure, I should think. What have I done this month? I sacrificed my writing to do what? And honestly, when I think of all the amazing people I met, places I got to see, the laughs I had, and the lessons I’ve learned, I can say that I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I was right where God needed me to be: present. There’s always this month, and I am so excited to see what it has in store! Can you believe Camp Nano starts in two days? This is definitely a new season in my life, and compared to even two months ago, everything is COMPLETELY different! My life has been flipped upside-down. The transitions have been fun, and even a bit nerve racking at times. One reason this Nano is so important to me is that I am going to be experimenting with a new writing schedule. It’s definitely going to require more flexibility, but I am up for the challenge! My goal is 40k words, and though that’s a lot, I’m confident that my story is ready to be written. What are your goals for Nano? Are you participating?

There are SO many new things happening… it’s honestly been a bit crazy. A good kind of crazy. With finishing the first draft of book 3, and getting the ball rolling on other projects, things have been busy in this house!😂 
I ordered proof copies of “Unmasked”, and I can’t wait to see how they look! In the meantime, I’ve begun outlining and brainstorming for some other projects. I never thought I would be attempting to write fantasy, but I am in love with the idea so far! Can’t wait to share little details with y’all!😉

As I sit here this morning in awe of this past year, I feel like the little drummer boy. I know this story is not Biblical, but I connect with it in my heart, for I too have nothing to bring Him but a song. And the song isn’t even my own, but one that He placed inside of me, so all I can do is sing it back to Him as an offering. Many say 2020 was an awful year and they can’t wait to see it go. But I see so much fruit from this year, that all I can do is... fall on my knees. He is good. He is faithful. He has done more this year to prepare our hearts for what is around the corner than maybe any other year in our lives. He is raising up His Bride in the earth. He is preparing her for His return. And for that I will sing. Lift up a great shout of joy to the Lord! Go ahead and do it—everyone, everywhere! As you serve Him, be glad and worship Him. Sing your way into His presence with joy! And realize what this really means—we have the privilege of worshiping the Lord, our God. For He us our Creator and now we belong to Him! We are the people of His pleasure. You can pass through His open gates with the password of praise. Come right into His presence with thanksgiving. Come bring your thank-offering to Him and affectionately bless His beautiful name! For the Lord is always good and ready to receive you. HE’S SO LOVING THAT IT WILL AMAZE YOU—SO KIND THAT IT WILL ASTOUND YOU! And He is famous for His faithfulness towards all. Day one of NaNoWriMo!

Here we are, the first day of one of the biggest events of the year for us writers. This month, we story tellers have a goal that we are determined to meet. 

I am loving this years NaNo for multiple reasons! I think it’s beautiful how people are making their own challenges, and seeing others step up encouraged me to customize NaNo to fit my busy schedule. 

So, as we embark on this amazing journey throughout the next thirty days, I just want to say YOU GOT THIS! 

Writing is difficult. No matter if your goal this month is consistency, finishing a draft, or starting a new project and typing The End a month later, it will all be a challenge. And it’s intimidating. Most think they can’t do it, say it’s impossible. I know first hand that it’s not! And if a 16 year old story-teller can tell her full story in one month, anyone can! 

Take a breath, crack your knuckles, get some tea, and write the story the world needs. Your book is going to be someone’s favorite book one day. Your story is going to change someone’s life one day. Don’t stress. Believe in yourself! WRITE IT!
