she was not wrong ,  there was an extra splash of joy mixed in with his usual zeal for life. a spring in his step ,   despite the meandering longings of nostalgia for old scenery. there was excitement to be found around new corners, unexplored freedom, the promise of new adventure.  at this precise moment,  sirius black was undoubtedly in love with  life.   ❝   there are no secrets between us,   ❞   he assured the witch, tempted for a split moment to reach for her shoulder, to draw her in. the tinge in her cheeks setting his blood to race at top speeds through his limbs. as long as their history had been, her memories stretched even farther than their old haunt’s halls to far less happy days. surely she knew his happiness, just as she knew what he had left behind.  he settled for a loose one-armed hug before setting off without explanation for the party’s back door. fingers unconsciously playing at the soft tendril that had caught his eye before he could return to his senses and draw away,   ❝   chaos, disappearances, exploration. quite the summer you’ve had, love.n i’m proud, honestly. marlene mckinnon taking on the world and winning.  glad to have you back, of course. but that goes without saying.  ❞  he turned to flash her a smile, too quick to meet her eye before he was steamrolling through the sudden rise of emotion. sweet and genuine, although too deep to wade through,    ❝   speaking of mayhem, i want to show you something.   ❞

❝   i think i know you far to well to actually believe that. you’ve got your fair share of secrets but someday you’ll end up telling me, i just know it. to this day, i still have no idea how you always managed to have a fresh stock of treats in your trunk, there’s no way i believe your fudge flies stayed THAT fresh all term long.  ❞  her heart admittedly stopped in her chest far too long than humanly possible the second he drew closer, electric sparks spreading across her side and only demanding her attention even more insistently as he stepped away from her, allowing her the half a second needed to draw a steadying breath. it had always been painful, to have something so close and dear but know it was simultaneously out of reach. sirius black had always been her north star. ever present, most visible in the dark but ever present in the light. she’d consistently admired the way he shone amidst the pain and seeing him radiate genuine light managed to leave her breathless and craving MORE. more of that cheeky smile and twinkling gaze that coaxed her into a new world.    ❝   doesn’t mean i don’t love hearing it. i love me a good compliment but let’s just say i could get used to them coming from you.   ❞   she admitted rather boldly, easing the delivery with a nonchalant shrug while she took strides to follow him. those glimpses into the hidden crevices of his personality were intoxicating and though they were few and far between, she’d developed a habit for digging until she found them again. as someone that carried her emotions on her sleeve, dealing with a polar opposite was often discouraging. she’d often found herself frustrated in the fact that she couldn’t decipher the boy’s feelings for her but fleeting moments like those always egged her on.    ❝   you sure know how to catch a girls attention, you know i’ve got a soft spot for a good bit of mayhem. what is it then?    ❞
