super random thing from cars 3 that’s always bothered me but literally doesn’t matter:
I feel like people misinterpret the main point of that whole line “I don’t know, I just never thought I couldn’t” mqueen says when cruz asks him how he had the confidence to race. I see alotta people only getting that “mqueen’s the goat and he’s just like that” rather than he was mainly just egotistical and a MAN 😭 That whole line was to emphasize that he’s never had to feel less than because of who he is, something that cruz had struggled with her whole life. To me, when I hear that line I cringe a bit because it just screams how privileged he was going into this career.
This might also just be bc alotta people don’t like how cruz took over in the third movie and just see her as kinda pathetic and annoying. ☹️☹️☹️ chat if you can’t tell I love cruz 🫶🏾
mcqueen was indeed privileged due to his gender, but what I feel like the movie does well as it goes on is show us that LMQ is starting to feel like he can’t (for the first time) and we get to see his character grow as he starts to lose confidence and thus, better understand where Cruz is coming from.
It’s a shame tho that it took the racing world beating him down for something he can’t control, like age, to realize that Cruz had been treated like that her entire life, but I suppose that’s just classic Pixar teaching the main character a valuable lesson.
