Valerie raised her eyebrows at the knight in shining armour comment but didn’t comment on it. “Well hot chocolate is always a good reason and I’m always up for some.” She said before nodding her head in the direction of the drinks table. “Lead the way? That way I can make sure you don’t fall again and keep both of us safe. I’m not sure how safe it is to get you around hot drinks though.”
MONTY smiled and stood up from the chair. “ okey dokey.” he began to walk to the drinks station but turned his head to face his new acquaintance. “ i’m lance by the way but most people call me monty because of montgomery, my last name. yeah started in high school then kinda stuck. ”
Andy watched as the guy struggled to sit down. He couldn’t hold back a smile, he always found things like that funny, especially when they didn’t happen to him. His eyes followed the man, silent as he tried to explain himself. He only spoke up after he chuckled. “Dude, honestly how did you fuck that up?”
MONTY smiled, a chuckle spilling from his lips. “ yeah i’m pretty sure i’ve got a condition where any kind of co-ordination is wired wrong. for example, this was. . . hm . . . yesterday actually, i was taking good care of walking one foot in front of the other, just like an average human being and just as i thought i had accomplished, i bumped into the no parking sign. i was too busy looking at feet.” monty admitted sheepishly.
“Well, it is a tradition, right?” Valerie shrugged her shoulders. “Besides I don’t really have anything else to do, not that I don’t have a social life or something but everyone is here tonight and well I actually don’t have much if a social life anyway so…” She rambled playing with the sleeves of her sweater. “What about you?” She ended up asking to stop herself.
MONTY chuckled at the rambling of the other, “that’s actually right about my reason too.” he smiled. “plus the hot chocolate here is really good. i’m actually craving one right now, you wanna head to the drinks table, i’d like my knight in shining armour beside me because i can almost promise you that the short walk from here to there will absolutely not be an easy one” a chuckle fell from his lips.
“That sounds troubling.” Valerie laughed again, letting go of his hand a little awkwardly. “But as long as you keep yourself unharmed and don’t cause a ruckus on the town meeting I don’t see any problem with it. Maybe just try to stay vertical for the rest of the night.”
monty let out a small chuckle. “i will try my best, gravity tends to work against me sometimes. but enough about me and my truly horrible co-ordination, what brought you to the meeting?”
Valerie didn’t even try to hide her laughter at the scene unfolding in front of her as she had been walking down the hall to find a spot. She knew it was probably rude but she couldn’t help herself. “Are you okay?” She managed to ask through her laughter offering a hand to the poor fella in case he needed it.
“yes!” monty grinned sheepishly, a bright blush creeping up his neck, glad that he at least made someone laugh, he accepted her hand and slowly pushed himself off the floor. he cleared his throat, “my body tends to do this so i’m kinda used to it.”
MONTY had always loved the town meetings, it was tradition and he’s never missed one. he loved this town and he loved how much other people did too. wrapped his coat tighter around his torso and pressed his shoulders up to his neck. he opened the door and scanned the room for seats. he had found one near the middle ( it was where he always sat for these things and was technically his spot by now ) however, monty being monty, when he sat down, he somehow incorrectly guessed the position of the chair and sat a litle too far forward, causing him too fall on the floor, a loud noise of scrambling and metal clanking rippled throughout the room. “but you see though. . .” monty began, he propped himself up to actually sit on the chair and gave an awkward chuckle as looked at the witness beside him. “the thing is. . .um . . .” his brain struggled to come up with an excuse to his clumsiness.

CHILDHOOD
lance didn’t have an amazing childhood, his mother was the mistress of a wealthy business man and as soon as said man heard about his mother’s pregnancy, he basically disappeared, no support given to the kid or the mom and his mother was a waitress who got paid minimum-wage but move to LA for her dreams of making it to the silver screen
when she got pregnant ( her family were very strict and religious ) and being pregnant out of marriage brought shame to her and to the family so because of the guilt of disappointing her parents and extended family, after she gave birth she moved away to ellingham!
lance remembers seeing his mother cave into alcohol and she attempted to drown her problems with liquor, she brought home a new man every week and little lance who’s always wanted a father was disappointed when they left ( even when they weren’t even that nice to him )
he fit in well with school though, always greeting the teachers, smiling, standing proudly by his work during the science fair, trying his best in every little thing that he did
TEENAGER
lance became obsessed with perfection, in middle school and high school he did every home work given, every extra credit project, he gave presents to his teachers, presents to his project group members! and always said good morning to the principal! who was basically the teacher’s pet
lance wanted to become a doctor, someone rich, successful but helped people at the same time, being neglected as a child, he has subconsciously grown this complex of needing to be perfect, like to prove himself that he was worthy of his mother’s love, that his existence to be erased wasn’t what his mother was looking for at the bottom of every bottle
he never went to parties, never drank or smoked, he stayed in to study, Harvard medical school within his gaze,
ADULTHOOD
then his mother got into an accident because she had been driving while intoxicated, after high school he took a year off just to help her settle back in and take care of her more
it was really hard for him because he wanted to be a doctor so badly and help people and help his mother financially too so he feels like he’s failed somehow
instead of going to med school he went to nursing school instead and now is the school nurse!!
