Just a moment ago, Kevin and Connor were watching the television gleefully, laughing at the strange thigs celebrities. Then, the next, they were in the dark, a sharp buzz filling their ears as they watched the television turn off, and everything around them go dark.
The first thing Connor did was panic, words stumbling out of his mouth which then formed sentences. They didn’t make any sense, but you could tell from the tone of his voice, he was afraid.
“It’s the end of the world Kevin!” Connor’s voice was shaky as he grabbed onto Kevin’s arms, which he could barely even make out, “We’re gonna die!”
Kevin laughed weakly, grabbing onto Connor’s arms softly, “Connor, Connor calm down. It’s just a blackout. Hey, it’s okay.”
Connor’s breaths were shaky, just like the rest of his body, but he calmed down ever so slightly. Kevin’s words had at least some effect on him. But he was still scared to death, not liking the darkness that was surrounding him.
“Hey, you sit down on the couch, I’m going to go light some candles, alright?”
Connor nodded weakly as he allowed himself to sit down. His leg bopped up and down, most likely from fear or stress. It felt like the room around him was spinning, though even if it was, he wouldn’t be able to see it. The world around him was currently too dark to see much, and everything around him was blurry.
It felt like centuries before Kevin came back, a lit candle in each hand. Connor felt him sit down next to him and hand him a candle, which Connor took graciously.
Connor was scared of the dark. As a child, he’d keep his bedside lamp on whilst he slept. He knew it wasted power but he couldn’t shake the thought that maybe, just maybe, something bad could happen if it was dark. He had the same feeling he had as a child right now. Fear, and so much anxiety.
Kevin must’ve noticed it, because he quietly slipped his free hand into Connor’s and squeezed it.
“Connor, it’s okay. Hey, look at me.”
Connor turned his head slightly to look at Kevin. The light from the candle illuminated it so he could see it, which calmed him down. Seeing Kevin so calm made him feel the same way, which was nice for Connor.
“Connor, it’s okay, I’m here.”
Kevin put his candle down on the coffee table and cupped his hands around Connor’s cheeks, before softly pressing a kiss to his lips.
That action seemed to calm Connor down completely, as he wrapped his arms around Kevin and relaxed into his chest, listening to his heartbeat as he closed his eyes.
“Hey, Connor?”
Connor made a small humming sound as he slightly looked up towards Kevin.
“I love you.”
Connor giggled softly and grinned, “I love you too.”
