MCKENLEY ;;
A public place seemed to have pros and cons, not entirely still believing that he was the one who offered this time around. That must have been a first. The effort, usually was the other way around. But here he was nonetheless. Somehow, sticking with the offer and not backing out. Even if the thought still lingered. In that moment still if Kenley were honest. There were so many reasons why he shouldn’t be here with a Malraux after all. But he guessed, like most of their interactions something kept him drawn to the blonde. He could play it on just wanting to banter, to get the upper hand considering the rivalry. Now though, that would be a lie. Something else took it’s place for the reasoning. Even if Kenley wasn’t entirely too confident on what that was. His eyes picked up on the subtle sign, which made the man nod his head as the male’s own version that he understood without words. “You don’t have to worry about me.” He stated simply, the uneasiness still being felt but Kenley tried to play it off . Worried that she would pick up on it and that would just make matters worse. “I figured nothing too drastic happened. But I guess I was getting a few play by plays from Ellie.” Kenley mused as his voice shared the similar barely spoken tone as she had done, knowing why he hadn’t messaged her. He coughed, trying to put emphasis or rather reminded himself again hoping that thinking about his pack members would be a reminder as to not slip up as he had moments before.Â
As she continued to sit there, her view shifted back to the two small children in front of her. They were preoccupied with the food—enjoying every little taste that they got and of course smeared all over their faces. It caused a smile to creep along her features as she was far more captivated by the two of them than she thought. They weren’t hers but the attachment was growing quickly. At his words, however, the smile dropped just a bit. “Yeah well, I do. Deal with it.” She was soft in her tone. The two bantered back and forth and while she knew he wouldn’t like what she had to say, she didn’t care. She openly admitted it and hoped that her gentle approach would work in helping him accept it. “So answer the question.” Her eyes stayed focused on the kids, though she was tempted to look at him and pick up on the way he looked when hearing her speak. “Ellie, of course. She was at the Tavern. Not too happy about being there with me. Guess even with all hell breaking loose none of us can work together.” Of course, she knew she was part of the reason why there was tension. She hated them first—with good reason, but still made it apparent that she hated them. “I’m glad it’s over though. All of it.”
