Do you ever just randomly remember the look on John’s face when Rodney comes to his quarters in The Shrine (and when Rodney’s forgetting so much stuff he still manages to remember how to get there from the infirmary btw), how angry he is with himself for not being there when Rodney woke up, how shocked he is to see Rodney’s real terror and desperation, the hurt at seeing Rodney slowly losing himself. And the way they both just grip each other’s arms; it’s so tight and not just from fear or reassurance on either side but, it’s love. Whether you read that as true friendship or anything more, it’s still beautiful and heartbreaking.
