📝 for five times Rodney couldn't sleep...👀
Thank you! Ooo so snippets definitely suggests plural, so I may get excited here...apologies!
The crook of his arm was aching. Briefly he wondered if it might be infected. He'd poured copious amounts of antiseptic on it when he'd cleaned himself up, before bandaging it as best he could. He'd even changed the bandages in the evening, when he'd realised he probably needed something against the skin, not just his uniform. It hadn't looked pretty, but it wasn't red or inflamed. He'd promised himself if it was he'd go to Carson's witchdoctors and get them to sort it out.
Okay so this snippet, if you can't guess, is post-The Eye after Cory Monteith's hurt poor Rodney. And as I was writing it, I kept on thinking back to this wonderful fic I read ages ago where Rodney doesn't get his arm checked out, it gets infected and it's just beautiful angst and h/c. Alas, that's not the route I've gone down for this section of the fic, 'cause I didn't want it getting ridiculously long, but just know I'm holding myself back when you read this one!
Damn Samantha Carter. Damn her to…somewhere.
There she was, all high and mighty. Acting as if she was the smartest person in the room, just because she had more hand's on experience with 'Gate technology. Come on now.
A different section here. I've not had much experience of writing pre-Atlantis Rodney, so this post-48 Hours was really fun to write. I have a very specific Rodney that I write, which I'm aware probably isn't as close to canon as I'd like, so getting to branch out into a time when he's properly cacooned in his arrogance and pride was so enjoyable. Plus, it gives the chance to add in a tiny bit of character growth, when he starts to think that maybe he's not actually as good as he wants everyone to believe.
And now, tucked up in bed, only a few minutes after he'd heard the front door slam, his parents were arguing again. He could hear his name drifting up through the floorboards. Just to really slam the point home again. Apparently it was his fault. Their marriage falling apart. Their family breaking down. If you listened often enough you'd think he'd have engineered every problem they had.
Okay, last snippet otherwise I'll be posting the whole darn thing. But this is kid!Rodney and I just can't ignore the idea that floats around the fandom (it's been a while since I've rewatched all of Atlantis, so I can't remember if it's actually official) that Rodney's childhood and his relationship with his parents was strained/unhappy. I started another fic where Rodney has to relive a worst memory from childhood, but I don't think that'll ever be finished, so instead it's been subsumed into this and my previous 5+1 about Rodney's birthdays. At least my desperate need for Rodney to be thoroughly unhappy in his childhood is getting some sort of outlet!
