Minecraft: Story Mode - The Next Chapters is an alternate universe and fanfiction series based on the Telltale Games series Minecraft: Story Mode. The AU was created by Jezabat, and she considers it to be one of her passion projects.

Premise: Jesse and their friends have conquered everything there is to conquer- Witherstorms, Old Builders, Admins, and everything in between. Now that all of these evils have been subdued, things are looking up for Jesse's world, and the other worlds they saved. Many hope to follow in Jesse's footsteps and embark on an adventure of their own. Readers step into the shoes of Ramone or Ramona, a big thinker living in Beacontown with his/her friends who isn't all that interested in following Jesse's path. But after what they thought would be a simple, fun vacation, this brand new team finds themselves on a quest to solve ancient mysteries, find a missing legend, and bring him home.

Differences from Canon:
Certain characters, such as Axel and Nell, have new pets.
In addition to the main story following the new characters, we get insight into characters from the original series who didn't have much screen time, such as Harper, Olivia and Axel.
Marriage is a thing in this AU. Some characters explicitly refer to others as their spouses.
Unlike the original game, mods are referenced.
The Aether is another dimension in this universe, just like the Nether and the End. However, Jezabat put her own spin on it so that it isn't too similar to the mod. The Twilight Forest mod takes the form of a fantasy novel series in-universe.
This AU is set roughly five to seven years after the events of Season 2. So, it has been about ten years since Jesse and the gang took down the Witherstorm.

The AU's title is a reference to Lukas's quote at the end of Hero in Residence: "Looks like it's time to write the next chapter."
The title is similar to Lego Friends: The Next Chapter, which also features a new cast of characters.
This AU goes off of the phrase, "When one story ends, another one begins." It is what Jezabat imagines a continuation of Minecraft: Story Mode would be like.
Jezabat's original concept for The Next Chapters involved a main character named Remy, whose appearance could be customized. Remy was going to be a character who looked up to Jesse and hoped to embark on an epic journey of their own. However, Jezabat wanted a protagonist who wasn't trying to be like Jesse at all. She felt as though having another Jesse-type character went against her message of breaking apart from the norm and finding your own creative voice. She also wanted to have a Unikitty-esque protagonist, so she created Ramone/a.
Jezabat confirmed that Ramone/a's appearance is customizable for the reader.
Remy still exists in The Next Chapters, but as a hardcore fan of Jesse who wants to be like them.
Jezabat describes this AU as the inverse to her Unikitty AU, Unikitty: Big Bright World.
Minecraft: Story Mode and Unikitty are Jezabat's two most favorite things.
She described the slight tonal shift of Big Bright World as, "What if Unikitty was a bit more like Minecraft: Story Mode?", whereas she described The Next Chapters as, "What if MC:SM was a bit more like Unikitty?"
She expressed that this AU would be a bit more comedic than the original game, so that the tone is a bit more like Unikitty's.
While Big Bright World continues the adventures of Unikitty and her friends, The Next Chapters introduces a new cast of characters.
Having a cutesy protagonist evoking Unikitty was one of the reasons why Jezabat had Ramone/a be the main character.
In 2023, she began to make significant changes to The Next Chapters' story, worldbuilding, and character designs, including swapping out Remy for Ramone/a. Further changes, such as expanding the plot, were made in 2025.
The entire story was originally going to be about stopping a dangerous spread of sculk, which would result in a cataclysmic warden attack that would destroy all the worlds. Now, Jezabat is saving this for the final story arc.
The new team's search for Soren has always been a main part of this AU.
Jezabat would like to add choices to this series when she writes it, but she is worried about participation numbers and whether incorporating her own personal fanon will turn her readers off.
The Next Chapters is still a work in progress, and Jezabat would appreciate feedback.
