literally where in the world are people getting “sirius only cares about his friends / his chosen few and no one else”. this is fanon. there is nothing in canon to indicate this. canon sirius as an adult is nice to molly weasley and comforts her about percy despite their differences. of course, adult sirius is very different from teen sirius, but young sirius as an eleven year old moves over for lily at the sorting despite having just met her (and made fun of her!). and given his breaking away from his family, i think he’s very open to getting to know other people to hear different perspectives, especially muggleborns. sirius cares about people a lot and that is fundamental to his character.

James has always been taller than her, but he’s never appreciated just how much until now.

From here, he has to tilt his head slightly to keep her eyes. She has to look up at him, chin angled just enough that every flicker of expression is impossible to miss.

“Come on, Evans,” he tells her, rolling his eyes for good measure. “Admit it. None of those guys do it for you.”

Her mouth drops open in rage. “You arrogant, loathsome—”

He barely registers the insult because she’s still standing there, glaring up at him with those impossibly beautiful eyes. In fact, she could have left at any point during this conversation… but she didn’t.

“I’m going to kiss you,” he suddenly tells her.

For half a second, her expression slips—surprise flashing across her face before she buries it beneath outrage.

She scoffs. “You are not.”

That tiny hesitation is all he needs. His grin comes easily, even though his stomach drops somewhere near his trainers. 

“Then you better walk away right now, Evans. Last chance.”
