John Walker 🤮

Ok let’s talk about John Walker for a second (No hate at all to Wyatt Russell btw he’s a king). First of all, THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE AUDACITY OF THIS BITCH. THIS MAN CALLS HIMSELF CAPTAIN AMERICA?? GET OUT, LEAVE, NO ONE WANTS YOU HERE. NO SIR.

Now that that’s off my chest...this man is the furthest thing from even the idea of Captain America let alone the person, no I’m sorry, the legend. The second he appeared on screen, I already knew I was going to hate him. No one can replace Captain America but if someone were to it could only be Bucky or Sam. Walker starts off his “debut” with an interview. How about I go down the list of reasons that just that first scene is just not something Steve would do. First of all, Steve never did any interviews with anyone, that’s something that Tony Stark would do. Speaking of (playboy) Tony Stark, Walker acts a lot more like Tony than he does Steve. He gloats, tries to force people to help, he also essentially brags about being Captain America. Not once did Steve ever say the words, “I’m Captain America”, whereas Walker says it about 15 times (exaggeration).

Also, the fact that Walker says he considered himself a close friend to Steve and calls him Cap, is the single most infuriating thing in the world. It is disgusting that he thinks he has the authority to call Steve “Cap”, when he had literally never personally met the guy. They may have both served their country but that doesn’t make then close, personal friends. I’m guessing that if Steve met Walker he would not be impressed or even willing to be around him. I know I wouldn’t. 

One last thing, when Walker took the serum (dumbass decision but I understand why he made it) it did make him more of himself, but that person is not the good samaritan, medal of honor winning, golden boy. It is a highly unstable, mentally and generally, and psychotic individual who has no control over his anger, jealousy, and vengeance. When Steve lost people, and he did lose a lot of people in his life, he chose to move forward and fight for their memory. He didn’t brutally murder the people that killed them like Walker did. Well at least what Walker says he did. He attacked and killed a man that had no part in Lemar’s death. Granted he was there when it happened and Walker was blind from grief and anger, but Steve would not have let that get to him. I don’t even thing that pre-serum John Walker would have reacted like that, or at least that aggressively. The serum took the bad, the anger, the fear, and amplified it to the max. As Dr. Erskine said in the first Captain America movie, the serum makes the bad worse and that is exactly what happened.

CAWS Review

Let’s go over the movie Captain America Winter Soldier. Overall, it’s probably my favourite Captain America Movie. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Civil War and The First Avenger a lot but Winter Soldier one is just so good that it stands out from them. 

Starting from the beginning, the scene with Steve constantly running past Sam Wilson and saying “On your left” is absolutely golden. Sam Wilson is by far my favourite character in the movie. His lines are always the best and very funny. Another golden line is when Natasha pulls up to Steve and Sam and says, “either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I’m here to pick up a fossil.” There are so many lines in the movie that are just so iconic and perfectly placed. Some other examples are, Nick Fury - “what’s not damaged?” Car - “Air conditioning is fully operational”, Steve - “before we get started does anyone want to get out”, Natasha - “wow, you guys are practically twins” Computer guy - “Yeah, I wish...Specimen”, and Natasha - “I’m sorry, did I step on your moment?”

Some of my favourite scenes in the movie are when we first meet Bucky, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier. The very first scene is probably one of the best, when Nick Fury looks through his windshield to see Bucky pointing a device at his car. When Bucky shoots the device a disk latches onto the bottom of the car blows up, making the car flip. The the car come careening towards Bucky he just casually steps out of the way as if it’s no big deal. The next scene is when Steve first meets the Winter Soldier. They are running along the rooftop and Steve throws his shield at Bucky but at the last second Bucky Reveals his metal arm to Steve and stops the shield in mid air. Last but the opposite of least is my favourite scene. This scene is closer to the end of the movie when they are trying to take down the project insight turbine planes. Natasha has disguised herself as a council woman and gotten into the control room with the rest of the council members and Alexander Pierce. When Pierce is distracted she takes her chance, taking out the guards and pointing a gun at Pierce. She then presses a button on her mask, deactivating it and takes it off along with her wig saying, “I’m sorry, did I step on your moment.” Which is by far my favourite quote in the movie. 

Moving on from quotes and best scenes, because I could go on and on, let’s talk about character development, starting with Sam. This is the movie where we first meet Sam Wilson. This movie hints at the fact that he will become a bigger part of the MCU and not just some side character that we only see in one movie. He starts off the movie on a morning run, where he meets Steve Rogers. We learn a little about him and he connects with Steve through their time at war. The next time we see him is when he is leading a V.A. (veteran affairs) meeting. Steve walks in at the end of the meeting and then has a conversation with Sam where Sam lets Steve in on his past and some things that happened when he was serving. A little later, Steve and Natasha show up on Sam’s doorstep tattered and tired, looking for a place to lay low. Sam let’s them into his home without hesitation, showing his trust towards Steve even after only knowing each other for literally a day. Throughout the rest of the movie, Sam plays a big role in helping Steve take down project insight. He went from just some random person in the beginning of the movie to one of the main characters. 

Now onto Miss Natasha Romanoff. At the beginning of the movie she starts off trying to make some small talk about dating with Steve, showing a little bit of friendship. But as per usual, she is keeping secrets from him. As a spy, Natasha has been trained to keep everything from everyone and not trust anyone. She doesn’t ever let her guard down and doesn’t let anyone in her walls. We see a lot more of her feelings than we’ve ever scene before when Fury “dies”. He was like a mentor and maybe even a father figure to her so she was upset and very distraught at his death. We even see a moment where it looks like she’s crying or about to cry. She then has a bonding moment with Steve when she reveals that she only pretends to know everything and then talks a little about something that happened in her past. Later, when they are at Sam’s house after they had been almost killed at the bunker, she delves a little more into her feelings. She let’s down her walls a little to ask Steve if he trusts her with his life, and she shows a lot of genuine emotion on her face and in her voice. By the end of the movie after she had been such a secretive person, Natasha is willing to reveal all of her secrets to the entire world to stop Hydra. Nat went from one of the most closed off people to someone who was more willing to share her feelings (with her friends) and her past. 

That’s all I’m going to do for this post because I don’t want it to be too long. I mean it might be too long already.

Artifact (The Marvel Bunch)

The song, The Marvel Bunch, is a song that was played on the Jimmy Fallon show. It is a parody of the Brady Bunch theme song. The cast of Avengers: Infinity War sings the song to tell the story (storytelling) of what the movie is about to market the movie.

Artifact (Infinity War)

The movie Infinity War is a very big example of storytelling especially from different perspectives. The movie constantly is switching perspectives from Wakanda (Earth) and Titan (Alien Planet). It tells a story by literally showing us what is happening and why.

Ironman

Alright, we’re gonna talk about Ironman and Tony Stark as a person. Personally, I’ve always loved Tony Stark, but I know that a lot of people didn’t like him at first or still don’t like him. (P.S. if you don’t like him at all, I don’t like you) I agree that Tony had more of a rocky start but what you have to realize is how much he improved in and after the first two Ironman movies and the first Avengers movie. At first he was arrogant, immature, rude, and very self absorbed. He was what we now would call a Fuckboy. The thing is he realized that he had a shitty personality and started to get better by the end of his first movie. I mean it wasn’t much but he was nicer to Pepper and Rhodey. He went through a lot that made him realize how ignorant he could be, but it wouldn’t stop at just him getting kidnapped. 

In Ironman 2, Tony realized that he was not invincible in his suit and could be hurt and defeated. Not just defeated by other people though, also by the one thing that is keeping him alive. Tony had palladium in his chest from his arc reactor that was keeping the shrapnel also in his chest from getting to his heart. He eventually beats both of the things that are trying to kill him by slowing down and taking time to think things through and listen to the people around him. He came out of that movie with a newfound respect for his father and appreciation for his friends. 

In Avengers, Tony takes a small step back in his progress when he meets Captain America because he wants to seem cooler and sure of himself around the legend from the stories he heard in his childhood. Throughout the movie they were competing and arguing with each other. Tony thought that Steve was too much of a goody two shoes and Steve thought that Stark only though of himself and would always put himself before the team. Tony proved him wrong by the end of the movie, literally putting the entire city of New York above himself and sacrificing his life for them. Granted he lived but it’s the thought that counts. He took ten steps forward in his progress when he did this. 

Tony may have started off as a jackass but he improved and has more character development than anyone else in the MCU in my opinion.
